smaller vessel 47m??? that would have been very intresting....

Not sure if your aware but the 47m vessel was hit by a 250m container ship that experienced some mechanical failure

Correct, a grain ship that was being assisted by Pilot vessels to dock, suffered engine failure and collided with a tuna boat Apollo S at the wharf.

At 280kms west of Adelaide it would have taken the Gallantry some time to get there!!

Alex, I would run with the SOP's that way you've covered your back, and it's about time some other groups read up on them, and what the true response in an appliance is...not 2 people in an appliance as I have witnessed, or a command car to check the job out!!

If you get a call for a "domestic fire" it should always be at minimum a 2 brigade response, and obviously if you are getting multiple 000's then upgrade it.

Seems to work well for the MFS crews.

Victoria’s CFA volunteers have welcomed the selection of Euan Ferguson as their new Chief Fire Officer. Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria, representing the 60,000 CFA volunteers, says he is an excellent choice.

VFBV’s Andrew Ford says Euan Ferguson understands working with a volunteer-based organisation.

“Euan has plenty of experience here in Victoria, he has high level fire fighting and organisational experience, and he understands what it takes for CFA to work effectively as a volunteer-based organisation,” Mr Ford said.

“The CFA needs strong operational leadership and Euan will bring this - the volunteers want the CFA to give highest priority to ensuring they get the training and the equipment they need, to be able to get on with the job they volunteered to do,” he said.

“Euan has a reputation as a good listener and a good communicator, and we invite him to strengthen the CFA’s connections with its volunteers and make the most of their professionalism, their knowhow, their experience and their motivation to protect Victoria.”

Euan Ferguson is currently the Chief Officer of the South Australian bush firefighting organisation, the CFS, and is a former Deputy Chief Officer of Victoria’s CFA.  While the CFS is predominantly a rural firefighting service, Euan’s CFA experience makes him well versed in its role of protecting more than half of suburban Melbourne and regional cities as well as country Victoria.

VFBV has also praised Acting Chief Officer Steve Warrington, who has filled the CFA’s operational leadership role over the past six months.

“Steve Warrington is a very capable senior officer and has done a good job of preparing the CFA and the communities its brigades represent, for the coming fire season,” Mr Ford said.

Thursday, 30 September 2010 I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chief Officer for CFA.

Euan Ferguson, who is the current CEO and CO of the South Australian Country Fire Service, will return home to Victoria to take up the position of CFA Chief Officer in mid November.

Euan brings nine years of experience in SA to the role along with his time as Acting CO and Deputy CO with CFA before that. Euan also worked in the natural resources portfolio earlier in his career.

His appointment follows a national and international recruitment search and is a significant one for CFA as we work with other agencies to implement Royal Commission recommendations.

Euan is a nationally respected emergency management leader and will provide a high level of executive capacity and leadership for CFA its people and stakeholders.

He has been responsible for South Australia’s fire operations, planning, preparedness and response for almost a decade and has built up a wealth of experience during that time.

Prior to being appointed Chief Officer in SA, Euan spent eight years working for CFA in a number of positions including Acting Chief Officer, Deputy Chief Officer and Operations Manager and he has a strong understanding of the reliance on community based volunteer fire brigades in both the SA and Victorian setting.

I look forward to Euan being on deck and am immensely thankful for all the efforts of our current CO Steve Warrington.

Mick Bourke
CEO

Adam, the "10 years is too old" campaign was a joint statewide CFS/MFS initaitive and was rolled out on 15/02/2010.

All MFS appliances have the stickers promoting the campaign, and there are some CFS appliances with them also.

Why a Group would not want to participate in getting the message across to the public for the safety of their homes and families escapes me.

One death from a house fire not fitted with approved smoke detectors is a recipe for disaster.

You can contact MFS Community Safety, District Officer Alan Foster,or Fiona Dunstan from CFS HQ for availability of the stickers.

It all comes down to Risk=Response, and the driver is the one who will get the please explain from the coroner, not the OIC.

Everyone regardless of who they are must "drive with due care" and every service has had its fair share of siren jockeys over the years SAAS included...(SPRINT CAR airbourne over median strips comes to mind)

The original Toshiba battery supplied with mine is still going since April, but the response tone seems to be the bone of contention with a lot of members.
