Just wondering, is this a Bike resource..??? and if so, me hopes that its motorbike rather than pushbike..!!! ;)

Yes the Sprint Motorbike was there due to being enroute to a conference up north, and a SAAS car was involved in this crash.

Fortunately the SAAS members sustained no injuries.

The other motorbike is B753

No not necessarily. Cat A's will usually need an ICP, so a Lima will be sent (ACTL's are ICPs) for ICP backup or as a second car. If two crews are responded one of which includes an ICP, I don't believe the Lima will be sent. ACTL's do have other duties when they are on shift, so they are not always available to run.

Yeah, like racing the VACMAT around on a Cat B all day and night :-P

I wouldn't worry about the Group Officer dynasties, some brigades have their own dynasties, and don't respect the members they have.

Country Fire Service / Re: Who is looking after our media section
« on: July 30, 2011, 12:03:26 PM »
I noticed the strange silence from the media section on that stirling housefire. Maybe groups should start doing their own? quick one para write up and post it online somewhere (maybe here since the media read this site).

Pictures and editorial of the the Stirling job were submitted to The Advertiser, but the Pt Pirie house fire with the pending death of the 3 year old boy took priority.

We ran the story on the tv news bulletin, and RC Chris Martin did a press conference with us,(7) and 10.

I to was surprised that a $1.5 million fire didn't get a mention.

The only person from Media Section I see at jobs in MFS area is Nicole Ely, and the last time before that was Melissa at Paddys Market fire, so not a very big presence from them :-o

Well done to the crews on that job, lot of gear saved due to good salvage work during firefighting operations.

Country Fire Service / Fire cuts put lives in danger
« on: July 19, 2011, 10:05:33 AM »
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/fire-service-cuts-put-lives-in-danger/story-e6frea6u-1226097183452

STAFF and fund cuts for emergency services will risk lives and properties in the bushfire season, it has been claimed.

An unexpected $2 million slashed in the State Budget from SAFECOM - the government body supporting the Metropolitan Fire Service, State Emergency Service and Country Fire Service - by Emergency Services Minister Kevin Foley has angered and frustrated volunteers.

Just 58 SAFECOM staff, down from 110 last year, are left to support 14,500 CFS volunteers and the state's 1700 SES volunteers. That will fall to 47 next financial year through attrition and redundancies.

CFS Volunteers Association executive director Wendy Shirley and SES executive officer Susan Caracoussis said the changes would hit volunteer support and training, where help was needed most.

"The cuts are too savage and the decision was not based on an audit or evidence, it's just an arbitrary decision by the minister," Ms Shirley said. "We (CFS) are already way under-staffed, but now the jobs SAFECOM can no longer do, will fall to our volunteers."

The agencies' volunteers share some training and services and Mrs Caracoussis said some "frustrated" SES volunteers had quit recently.

Six country CFS recruitment and support staff were replaced by Adelaide-based officers, who also handle recruiting and training in rural communities on a "fly-in, fly-out basis".

"We need more volunteers, but the capacity to recruit them has been cut," Ms Shirley said.

Asked by Liberal MP Daniel van Holst Pellekaan if cuts were based on "best operation" practices, Mr Foley told a parliamentary committee earlier this month: "I just thought it was a reasonable number" based on his state treasurer experience.

Quizzed if he provided "leadership" by deciding where cuts should occur,

Mr Foley said: "That's government, mate; it's hard decisions."

Mr Foley said staff reductions meant more could be put to "frontline" services and an extra $2.1 million over four years would go to additional resources and accreditation courses for volunteers from both agencies.

He added the State Budget had also allocated $2.5 million over the next four years for improvements at the State Emergency Information Call Centre.

SAAS / Re: Move out the way! New SPRINT and BRU campaign
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:59:56 PM »
Just to clarify SPRINT cars are metro area only, the RTL's are in the country.

ACTL's operate in metro area ie LE1,LW1,LN1,LS1 and all drive Ford Territories.

There are also numerous managers "Oscar etc" callsigns and CSO's floating around which can also first respond to jobs.

If you want to ask a question about SPRINT, Chris Howie who is the Team Leader will set you straight.
