Don't take the bait guys.. If his/her outlook on the service is that un-educated, let him/her have his rather foolish opinion.

does anyone think if theres a actually protest outside " the house" the powers to be in CFS mite look not to favourably on this? i just cant help to wonder if we did sumthin like this it may backfire for individuals or brigades?
Yeah, they shut down all the brigades.. Then spend the MILLIONS in replacing them all with Career stations, running appliances + cost, 4 shifts + relief, training, and the courses, cost of recruitment etc.. - Can't see that ever happening.

Mr. Government/CFS.. STEP UP, support your volunteers, or be prepared to face a world of pain in the National and International media when thousands of Volunteers march infront of Govt. House.

I can't recall anywhere in the world where a Fire Service has lobbied in the thousands to support better training, better equipment and better treatment, only so they can better serve their community, free of charge.

I'm imagining the headlines now....

For someone who makes it so clear on who they are, I would watch the level at which you publically slander other people.

The main focus of the Tele-con was to plan how best to protect our fire-fighters if the PANDEMIC hits Aust. So I see it as very relevant. Gee bashed if you don't plan bashed if you do

would have thought that a very brief teleconference.....follow the instructions from SA Health, SAAS, and no doubt the SES who will be there in case Swine Flu becomes lodged in trees

Emergency Management Plan?

Or shall we go by your thinking and keep the Fire (and other) Emergency Services in the dark, till the day it may become a major problem, then just expect everyone to jump into action and know what to do.. ?

Pre Planning.. AIIMS.. Forward Thinking.. - shall I risk saying it, Common Sense?

Hmmm..

Hehe, I got this in the emails over the weekend.. Doesn't take long..

I was wondering if any other Brigades had been told / found out for themselves the affect that the this new regulation will have on drivers. It only effects trucks with a GVM of 12t and over, which would include most if not all 34/34p, pumpers.

Examples that came to mind are: (1)If I work a normal day shift (7 - 3.30)then later that afternoon I get paged at 5pm to respond with a strike team to a large grass, scrub fire that is 20km from our station. We spend 12 hrs on the fire ground before being stood down, under the new regs, I can not now drive home nor can any other driver who is in our crew. A vehicle from the station is then required to deliver another driver to the fireground to bring the truck/crew home.

(2) I am now a truck driver for my day job, I complete a normall shift of 9 hrs. Get a page that evening and put in 3.5 hrs at a fire. Under the regs I can drive to the fire as i can use the exemption seeing as it is a classified emergency, however, i can not drive home or return to my day job as a driver for another 12 hours.

I suppose I more curious as to why CFS has not raised this issue with the brigades, I only came across it by chance reading the Saturdays Advertiser, then last night at brigade, I spoke to one of our members who is a member of SAPOL and discussed it with him.

I believe the brigades also now are required to keep a drivers log, and all drivers are responsible for obtaining and holding a drivers diary. (filled out only if driving further than 100km radius of station) - strike team deployments

Further information at transport.sa.gov.au then follow link to "Heavy vehicle driver fatigue"

As with most laws/regs, i'm sure a sub-clause in tiny tiny writing makes Emergency Service personell, in the act of an Emergency Incident, exempt from such regulations.

Bill,

I doubt start his own Brigade. I would tend to go along the lines of Installation Sprinkler/pump testing.

Surely that would be more pheasable?(sp)

Epic failure on the part of the CFS.

Getting sick of putting in so much time for an organisation that only finds more ways to **** us over!

SAMFS / Re: MFS COMMS STRIKES AGAIN
« on: April 29, 2009, 07:08:42 AM »

As for when SAPOL or SAAS pass the job on to Fire Service...too much chance for chinese whispers, keep rescue on the response.

...and you never wonder why the ambo is standing there incredulously wondering why 2 appliances turned out......bells and whistles....... for the transmission fluid on the road that takes 1 bag of kitty litter to clean up......

How much does it cost every time an appliance turns out......more to the point how much does it cost when 2 trucks turn out for what was requested as a low priority attendance for a fluid spill??????

Yeah like Darren mentioned, I know of a few times (through personal experience) where an accident has been reported as 'spill only', and 1 or more persons have required Hydraulic extrication.

Or 'just a small radiator/oil spill' has been near 100 Litres of fuel sprayed all over the vehicle and its occupants still in a car while they are being worked on.

It was not a crash at all.   Just a broken down car, that couldn't move, and was stuck in an awkward location (eg blind corners / no street lights)...

Pip

In other words, SAPOL's job..

Great..it carries 75,000 litres of water.

In summer, with a lack of water supplies, where is it going to fill?

Does it scoop from the sea?   I can't see it being able to scoop from any other water supply in SA in summer....

Perhaps the Govt could just give the money they were going to spend on this project, to CFS, for new stations etc....it'd be more effective!

Pip
They have said it will have to fill with water/fuel from an airport. - 30 mins turn around with their pump systems.

The only difference between SO's & RO's (besides a few nit picky things) is that SO's work from HQ/STC. I know a few SO's who's work balance is 80% Ops & Training/20% Admin...

As already said, the difference (really) is one group are operational, the other are not.

Either way, as Darren mentioned, nothing happend, it was thrown out, so we can all continue on our merry ways.. :)

SASES / Re: SES P1 responses when the SCC opens

Ken,

Is the criteria of 'dispatch' actually different in the SES-OC compared to AF, or would it be down to different operators doing different things?

It just seems concerning that you will get one response if you talk to AF, and possibly a completely different one if you get through to the SES-OC.

I hope it can't "mass-deluge".. - 70 thousand ton of water coming down on the 'ground' crews, won't be fun!
