SAMFS / Re: 2015 Recruitment
« on: March 06, 2015, 06:57:15 PM »
I heard from a mate that his mate had received an interview email earlier today. I'm not sure if everybody was notified today or just people through to the next stage.

If you haven't already look on YouTube ( ARFF physical aptitude test ) as it shows the process.  Work on your legs and core and if you are looking for an exercise try dragging a tyre with a rope and put extra weight on if you like.

No real tips for testing, but when you get to the physical make sure you can touch your toes -sit and reach....I got through everything but that, and by not being able to touch toes or go past it was bye bye...try again next year...so get stretching  :-P

So I did the testing today and it was actually hard at some points. I'm not sure if I was a top scorer or not, does anyone know if it's a pass/fail score or if it's say the top 100 move on to the next stage?

As for the sit and reach I have been stretching heaps and can now comfortably touch my toes when in a seated position and I'm pretty sure that's all that's needed.

It's hard to tell from these sort of tests mate as they are designed to stress you and push your brain limits. You will have to pass a certain mark but they will also take the top what ever number they need through to the next test.
All the best

There is nothing to stop you but they do test you again at the station later in the process. I also would assume that they would compare your interview results to your answers to the online testing.

How will your interview reults reflect any of the testing in Stage 1? Also even though they test you later in the process, if people can cheat it means the "honest" applicants maybe eliminated early and wont get to the 2nd tests. I just find it odd they would test like that. Maybe they should have you on webcam

I'm only assuming that as one of the online tests are all about how you will fit into the role and personality profile questions then some of the question at the interview stage are brought up again.

You stay in a hotel just out of the city in Moonee Ponds and they supply the transport to get to school. I know it's hard not to but don't worry about things that far down the line.

I have found Airservices Australia web site to have a fair bit of info. It has a selection process there, the physical on YouTube , some info on what they actually do or don't do!!!!  There are a few recruit courses on YouTube which is good to watch just type in ARFF recruits.

I would put as much as you can for each process and not think it is only a beep test or a resume etc because they look at everything you do and how you conduct yourself. You don't want to get to the end and miss out by one or two spots and think I should have put more effort in somewhere. Just my opinion anyway. They might even be watching this forum!!!!
Good luck to all when it finally happens.

If that's the case at least I have a good 40 years of trying to get in. If I haven't got in by then I might just have to give up. :-D

Is having to redo the respiratory/ medical tests again a regular occurrence then? Also I assume it's not a one of test like the pat2 in that you fail the first one and that's it?

There are 3 or 4 having to re do respiratory medicals, and the 'can you do Pirie or Mt Gambier' ph calls have happened this week too.  'They' are saying letters of offer this week

MrT

Are you aware if extra people have been put through the pat2 just in case then?

This is like waiting for the second coming of christ!
when will we know?

I'd like to think you would have a letter by this Friday, so you can give your employer 1 months notice

Are the MFS required to give you 4 weeks to give notice?

Heard it from a DO who was also talking about clusters being introduced into the next EBA. He was saying if they do another squad this year there would be would be a very well known SA sportsman in it. Admittedly that doesn't mean that they are definitely doing a third squad but the way he was talking it seemed likely.

Brett maher or jason torney. Can't see the clusters happening. Imagine the travel money they would have to pay. Not many firieswould be keen on it either I wouldn't think.

What do you mean by clusters? I'm certain it won't be Torney as he didn't get to the interview unless he got to skip it!!!!!

Hi all, I was one of the candidates that came out of the last interview stage with one of the "Stay Fit" letters. I've been following this forum and have read that some people who initially received "Stay Fit" letters have since been called up for the next round of tests. I unfortunately didn't receive a call up but was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on where to go from here. Is it likely that there will be another calling from this group, or is it more likely that the standard application process will begin again? Having said that though I still haven't received any further notification yet to say that my application is no longer valid. Cheers

Hi td, I'm in the same boat mate in waiting to see if there will be a third course. It's been mentioned on here a few times before and it's easier said than done but don't put your life on hold waiting but stay fit just in case. Having said that I have heard rumors from firies at different ranks and I would take it with a pinch of salt that they might not do another recruitment drive until next year. Also this second recruit course will get the service just above the line they like to keep so it will depend on how many retire from now to July if they need a third course. I stress this is just rumors and someone else on this forum may be able to help you out some more but good luck for the future.

Has anyone heard any rumors if applications will open early next year again or will they have a year off?

surely stations are set before the course starts?? i know one on the course was signed to a contract for a station for 5 yrs

I could be wrong as I'm not on the course but I would think the only places which would be know would be the mount or pirie.
