SAAS / Re: SAAS Making it harder to Volunteer !!!!
« on: June 11, 2010, 11:42:26 AM »
SAAS has changed the recruiting this year it now works on a 2 year cycle my station is recruiting now and we need all the help we can get having only 5 crew puts alot of presure on others.

The thought of stations not takiing people on because they dont reside in the station catchment is pathetic. i cant live in the town of my station cause of my partners work we have to live within 8 minutes of his station.

i think we should give it ago this year and see what happens at the end of the day we are vollys and what are they going to do sack us we have support through the AEA if anybody thinks they are being unfairly treated then find out who your nearest AEA rep is or contact the AEA for advice.

I realise that volunteeing is harder for somepeople and i do find it hard but manage my 12 hours a week.

Also can somebody tell me where they found out the amount of hours SAAS wants all i can find in the CDP book is 1 shift aweek and 2 trainings a month.

VOLLYAMBO for your information i travel over an hour to be on call i sit there for 12 hours and while im there i do some of my SAAS training to kill time also i have come from one of those busy stations and i have cut back from doing as many hours as i use to. being 60 hours out of a week now down to 12 big change

YES the CDP book came out late not the first time SAAS has done this also if you spent 5 months with no education maybe you should have done something like revision of things you already know to be come better at them.

Some people wont be able to handle the fact that SAAS want vollys to do more of there own learning and doing more hours to weed out the want to be's there are alot of vollys out there who are well lets say unsafe, and this would be SAAS's way of saying shape up or ship out. but as i said last time SAAS have been going to increase our yearly hours for the last THREE years and havent done it so when it happens or should i say if it happens lets give it ago

Lets bring the vollys foward and out of the past and make it a profesinal service that people wont be able to tell the difference between paid and volly at the end of the day if we have to do 162 hours a year or 600 plus.

624 hours a year is 12 hours aweek and its up to you how you get your 12 hours maybe split it into 2 6 hours shifts insted and even if you fall short of the hours providing you have good reason for example work then saas will help you.

I enjoy seeing everybody getting involved how ever SAAS said this last year the year before that and the year before that and it still hasnt happend it now means that you will have to do 12.3 hours per week on roster.

My station only managed 115 jobs in 12 months may 09 to may 10 but my entire station has done over 500 hours on roster each.by they way we only have 5 crew!!!!!! and we are covering about half of our yearly roster.

if they do bring this new plan in, its not to make it harder but its trying to support us they are bringing in new guidelines so of course we are going to have to work a bit harder, we cry about not getting support and then when they try to support us we cry again i think that after 4 years with SAAS this years CDP book is the best yeat and i have already done quite alot. its not only up to our RTL's and VTC's to train us but there is some self directed study which is good for every one.

and before some one says i have plenty of time on my hands i dont i work 40+ hours a week play sport and still have time for 12 hours of ambulance work a week its called work life balance.
Cheers

I thought the whole thing was about any second job not just working for a company in the same industry i dont thing the union can do anything about it as SAAS is not a public sector organisation.
It cant effect vollies cause we need to pay the bills and have a life our reembersments wont cover daily living.

(apoliges for spelling mistakes its 1240am and i have had to massive shifts at work on only 4 hours sleep)

cheers all

Country Fire Service / Re: Blue vs. Green shirts under turn-out gear
« on: March 12, 2010, 08:22:49 AM »
Wearing blue would not make us look like the MFS. Some people seem to think that green is the go so we don't look anything like the MFS. Wearing green makes us look like paramedics/ medical services which wear green around the world and I'm guessing will return to green here in South Australia in the near future.

Look globally fire services wear blue and the uniform would clearly have CFS marked on it.

The Green is different i have compared my SAAS uniform to the CFS hat and its a different green. But at the end of the day does it matter what the colour is we know who we are and we ride around on big white trucks! just a slight difference to the MFS trucks, and nobody cares who comes when they call as long as they ger some one who can do the job.

SES have blue shirts they are clearly marked as SES Search and Rescue. No matter what we get it will be clearly labeled with CFS. SAAS have SA AMBULANCE written accros the back and funny enough they get out of mercs so we wont look liek them.

why is the colour of a shirt so important, at the end of the day it can only be worn for operation duties and most of them involve the rest of our turn out gear again making it quite obvious that we are CFS.

Thisis my opinion and i dont care what shirt i have on i know who i am and what i do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SAAS / Re: Uniforms- Is blue here to stay?
« on: March 06, 2010, 12:30:08 AM »
i think the whole point was to try and stay as close to the old uniform as possible. just give it a bit of a revamp it looks good and feels pretty comfy i cant wait till we are back in green, all we need now is our lovely epaulettes and uniform compleate thank goodness its only our clinical level on them!!!!!!!!!!!!

The SAAS clean is just about done woohoo, not long to go and back to green. I think there is only a few stations to go and its all done few in south region anda few in north and its done from what i can remember seeing on the cleaning programe.

SAAS / Re: SAAS PTO intake 2010

SAAS makes most of its money off of transfers so i dont think they will get rid of PTS in the near future, even more so when they are slowing upgrading PTS/ESS as well as slowly introducing more cars into the PTS/ESS game including more country transfer cars or RMTS. and there should be an intake this year.

What would they do here seeing that it is fairly large fire they are attending and they only have one truck?

lyndoch still had 34P being crewed up for a response to gawler so maybe they would have sent them inplace of concordia as the fire was a higher priority

When medstar first took over as the retrieval service they were doing pead cases as well,

its good to see that there is now a pead team available but do they do roadside trauma as well or just hospital to hospital? at the SAAS conference last year the guy who took us through medstar base said they would be doing all road side retrievals.

in regards to the green uniform for saas, stations that have been cleaned can not be entered by personal from "dirty" stations, all clean saas building should have a green papper strip on all points of entry to the station.

the new green uniform should be on the streets in the next few months. my partner has received his and it looks good I'm just waiting on mine.

recently a riverland crew had to spend several weeks in a MFS station cause theirs was condemned after it flooded a few times.

cheers

im not sure i have always only been able to drive a CFS appliance since getting a full licence but there would be brigades and units that would alow under the right conditions.

Pip may be able to shed some better light on this

All emergency service require a BAC of 0.00 driving or not.How ever as mention not everybody will tell you if they have been drinking and its up to the OIC to make a judement call on if they think a person has been drinking.
