I like how the pager messages differ.

Jo Blo burning off a mound of sticks and gets a spark into grass burning couple of acres is a Burn off out of control.

Department burns.  Fire has broken containment lines.  Burns 1000acres.

CFS should bill the departments concerned and help prop up their budget.

Some of the large out of control fires could be reduced if they spoke to the local cfs groups about getting some assistance and have a decent water supply, or even use the big trucks they already have :D  I'm sure many will enjoy and value the experience of a live "controlled" fire :D

They're good if you use a lot of layflat.  on the old 24 reels you can get about 100-150m of hose.

Think the first one is for Station work to house a new appliance.

26-03-13 14:48:08   Info only . Some potential for S/T 3 to be needed at Rockleigh later. NO RESPONSE REQUIRED. NO request made from Region. GO - CFS Strathalbyn Group Info

Love this sort of thing... Unnecessary for the sake of being unnecessary.

Not really.  This triggers the captains/do's to make sure when the call comes at 10pm tonight to be on the fireground by midnight they can say yay or nay now.  Generally crews will text/ph the captains to say they're good to go if they see this.

Just a bit of preplanning.

I would say the correct action would be to ask AF to add the correct resource and to stop the other.

Lucky it didn't go earlier

12-03-13 13:28:34 All members note, as already discussed, AB 24 is our rural appliance. I DO NOT CARE WHAT THE PAGE FROM ADELAIDE FIRE SAYS. Capt - CFS McLaren Flat Info

And that is how you end up with your appliance being defaulted.

paging2 must have the wrong code assigned to aldinga.  paging1 showed up correct

Info only.6 Jervois crew at Monarto fireground tonight in Monartos truck. Jervois 34 still in station. - CFS Jervois Info

Still interested in this job. Still with resources on scene but no mention about it? Anyone with any info?

Wasn't that big in size (maybe 50-100Acres).  Just lots of mopping up.  Plenty of trees burning in hard to get areas.

Technically the Riverland is not a TFB and the fdi for Loxton is only at 10.

I hate burning off, not having resources at your disposal has it's risks.

I don't know if it is still the case, but in the past I've added resources to an incident without a page as the crew were already in the truck.  AF asked if we wanted it paged or not.

From what i have been told, a brigade in Strathalbyn group, and one in East Torrens groupto replace 2000 era 24P's in those brigades

The strath group would be strath24p. Others due for replacement would be Clayton and Black fellows but they would be rural 2/3-4s

Sooo how many Brigades are responding a different appliance to a job than the one on the page from A fire??

I just witnessed a brigade have their 24 responded and rolled out the door in the 34P

We had adelaide fire tell our 14 to stand down even after it was requested through AF by the captain :D

Pretty standard sort of change day really, hot and windy with a few bans. The change is fairly shallow and slow moving so the FDI's might get up a bit higher than predicted.

I see that Cape Willoughby on KI is currently sitting at an GFDI of 167 though (at 0930), the BOM only had it forecast to reach 48.

Where do you get that from?

Is this not what the Fire number is on weatherzone?
http://www.weatherzone.com.au/station.jsp?lt=site&lc=22803&list=ob

Coz they don't have it going much above 60.

It made a long day to.  We didn't get into the awesome tents until 11-12 that night.

Must have been extremely unconfortable in those tents during the day, especially friday.

The day sleepers got stretchers in a gym.

The night was bad enough hot, humid, noisy and uncomfortable. Not a lot of sleep was had by all

ultimately you may need to find a section straight enough to provide enough visibility to oncoming traffic.

Some times even that doesn't matter.  We were visible from about 1-2K's from night and some filtered still nearly ran me over.

Great advice :D

Advice I give people new to traffic control, "Always assume the public are drunk/stupid/homicidal and have at least two escape routes."

We were told on Thu night that no more region 1 crews would be needed until Today, then we got the 4am wake up call.  Based on the pager messages earlier on Thu I prebooked my leave with my bosses.

It made a long day to.  We didn't get into the awesome tents until 11-12 that night.

We got deployed almost straight away and don't think we relieved anyone.

The fire was rapidly changing and the wind shifts were amazing.  A couple of  times we were blacking out a control line, then watching it take off before falling back a k or 2 to the next control line.    I believe this behaviour didn't stop during the night, so the 4am call could have been of panic.

I heard originally they wanted the crews for 8am, which got hit on the head straight away.

Are ses on sacad yet?

Do they get defaulted when responded via AF?  Is it an issue since intercad isn't online yet.

plain language.   Most radio ops don't do the role day in and out.  It's hard enough for some to use the right pro words,  can't imagine what would happen trying to remember k codes.
