Country Fire Service / Re: Group and Brigade Rivalries
« on: March 19, 2007, 03:10:00 PM »
Having been involved at the last fire a willunga I can say that within a short time most of the Kyeema group were committed. I believe that only 2 or 3 appliances were not used. After the initial group response the rest of the brigades were responded by Region 1. The group officer asked for 3 strike teams One consisting of 14's. The decision was up to region as to who was sent. The 1st brigades called were Willunga, Aldinga Beach and Range-Hope forrest. Then it was McLaren Vale, Sellicks and Yundi. I think that only McLaren Vale and Aldinga had anything left at station. By looking at a map Mt Compass is as faraway from the fire as the last responded brigades from kyeema group.

According to a regional officer i recently spoke to the new appliances will be delivered to brigades ready to replace the existing one. That means if the old one carried 4 BA sets the new one will too. This is as long as the brigades sfec specs match the number of BA sets they have.

I was one of the first to found the house. We had come down from the eastern side following a local farmer who told us the track we were on was a dead end. Started to work on the grass to stop it at the rack and protect ourselves. Later found out that the track went right past the house and out the other side but it was too late by then. It is a bit sad to know that there was someone still in the house. Had to wait there with one of the local cops until mundoo group took over. we were the last appliance off of the fire ground from kyeema group everyone else had already closed their stations and gone home.

My understanding was that the nomex material meets the standard but the construction for the garmet and liners do not.

Cybercitizen the rescue at aldinga was originally paged as port noarlunga then repaged with the correct address about 15 min later. As far as i know because kyeema group have not set up all their responses on the cad data base at mfs sellicks will not appear on it yet but i know it has been discussed at a group level already.

Sellicks are accredited for low angle stretcher rescue. It was approved as a change to their sfec about 5 years ago.

Matt one of the reasons that you would have had trouble changing your classification under the SFEC is that the standards are out of date. I have heard that HQ are rewriting the standards. The old SFEC's don't take into account the current levels of fire standards for certain types of buildings.

I didnt have a call all night but got a call to help with sandbagging at old noarlunga on tuesday morning. It seemed strange to be placing sandbags when the sun was shining. We even had a couple of guys take their shirts off.

I have heard that lion apparel are trying to get the PBI approved for use at grass fires. It is being tested without liners so it can get approved.

I was at a group meeting approximately 12 months ago with an RO there. The discussion came up about combi tools and rescues. We were told that brigades with combi tools can respond to rescues in there area and do the work but a heavy rescue brigade must also be responded.

I have heard of people saying that they don't want to sue the vollies only the paid staff. What they forget is that what ever happens to the paid staff may filter down to the vollies in some way.

We had a call from the UFU at work. They were asking if we wanted to put an ad in or give a donation to a publication they were doing. They did sound pushy on the phone but the boss told them where to go. He would rather support CFS than MFS.

All Equipment discussion / Re: Wet Weather Gear - Do you have it?
« on: June 23, 2005, 01:10:21 PM »
Kyeema Group bought 5 sets of pants and coats for each brigade. All of these are large enough to fit over turnout gear. I think most brigades keep the gear on the truck. Only problem is 5 sets for two trucks means some one gets wet still.
