So, I know that this has probably been done before, but I'd like to see some decent and useful information on this forum for once.
So, what do you carry in you turnout gear? If you have a gear bag as well, what's in that? For once I'm interested to see what our SES pals carry :P

Lower part of overalls or two piece pants
Left cargo pocket -length of 8mm rescue rope (small lenght 1mtr), synthetic tape - for tieing back doors, surgical scissors.
Right hand cargo - safety glasses, P2 mask, riggers gloves, disposable gloves, PT Road Rescue gloves.
RH Pocket spare lighter, ear plus.
Road crash jacket - Nil
For certain other tasks(like land search) throw in first aid kit, compass, protractor, munchies, two bottles of water & some other stuff carried in bum bags or packs.
Seems like there is some double up - but you just never know?
We normally don't carry water on our bodies I find things hanging off belts are a pain during RCR. And we have fridges on the truck so why carry it?
Task away from the vehicles of course people carry the wet stuff.

6739264: Do you really have 2 torches in your PBI kit?
Yeah, Super Sabrelite 2000 on the coat and UK44 in the pants. The one in the pants helps when I dont have the coat around. Eg: Driving.

I carry too much gear, but I don't know where I will be operating from (eg in a Field Command vehicle or the local community club). So for SES Field Operations Control / Communications control....

One of the most useful items is carbon paper so that paperwork is duplicated as it is written. One for the Ops or crew leader, one for the paper trail.
I am also trained for land search, basic rescue, USAR 1 and first aid.... so if I am to be field crew away from vehicles, then stuff gets transferred to my overall PPE pockets.

SES GUYS: What's the difference between a field notebook and a normal notebook? Also, sesrcr carries "shears", are they scissors?
Also, I've been told that helmets aren't designed to carry items between the head harness and outer shell, because that space is needed for cushioning impacts. Anyone else heard that?

shears/ scissors - shears are heavier duty than scissors (& thats what they are called - shears).
Field notebook is the issued version of a note book & is supposed to be a controlled document for court purposes. Other than that they the same as normal ones.

Sticking stuff between the helmet shell & its harness would defeat the purpose of having a suspended harness but I have never seen anything to say dont do it as in industry there is no requirement to use it as a storage space.

More of a thermal heat release issue also I believe..

i have the shears in my RCR jacket so i can cut seat belts if doing rescue or cat clothing of the injured if providing first aid also have a set in my personal first aid kit

The yellow CFS Field Notebook & orange SES Field notebook are very similar.
The pages cannot be removed and the pages are numbered. I understand that all members are meant to carry one so that you can make notes about an incident (eg time, what happened, decision made, by whom, etc)which can be submitted to a court or review organisation.
Meant to help people with poor memories (especially ME....)

Problem of not knowing what vehicle I will be with or what resources will be available. A pain in the back when carrying stuff.....
One day the Unit might get what it needs so that volunteers do not need to provide from personal kit.....OR....the people who consider myself paranoid & stupid are correct.

Yes I do have CABA but that is in a crew bag only wear 1 helmet torch on it all the time

Yeah, heard both the thermal issues and the cushioning issues. It depends I guess, my earplugs are hardly noticeable in there, and on the odd occasion the flashhood sits up top, its usually pulled out and donned before the helmet is on. I wouldn't be too keen on working with a flashhood sitting in my lid and me sweating my ring off!

Yeah, carry that T bar 'key' used to open some of the outer boxes that FIP's are in, however that is now stored on the truck.. Hurts a little when you land awkwardly on it!..

They have FIP's behind THOSE locks? Holy filtered, here I was thinking the T-Bar was happily only for Booster Installations...

I know of one where a prems had an FIP in a front foyer.. (double air lock type of foyer) Which often got vandalised / had the front doors busted every second weekend.. So the FIP is now protected in the box..

Good to see the 003, 003L and the 004 getting some lovin'.
It's actually called a 604 key, for info the 003 comes in a short and long version. All officers should carry at least one of each, if not make sure they are in your truck somewhere.

All of the contents of fellow responders pockets has been very insightful, though one noteable ommission is very suprising, for years this cure all was shown nightly on television, with seemingly endless uses it was a quantum leap in emergency management.
I was impressed when with a few household items, it helped transform an ordinary SUV it a unbeatable battlewagon and then on another night built an attack plane again with same household items, yep the A TEAM rocked but, only with the help of "duct tape" the panacea for the 21st century. :-D Yeh ,B A Baracus (aka MrT)one smooth operator with him on your appliance, youd go through the gates of hades and come out eating icecream , from a cone made of Duct Tape, of course!!! :wink:

Oh numbers so wise in the ways of the world , but still using a rubberised fork, so as not do damage to your complection - Duct tape was developed for use in the air conditioning industries , for joining ceiling ducts.
Though there has been the odd video where .................. needless to say the individuals involved were prosecuted by RSPCA , and found to be quackers :-D

Oh Jaff, so close, yet so far. Duck tape was adopted by aircon industry after its invention by the Military in WWII. Waterproof qualities = water off a ducks back = Duck Tape ;)

Well i have only been issued 1 set of lv1 gloves and i sometimes take them with me as well but usually I leave them in my lv1 gear.
Have those of you who mention carrying them in Pbi got 2 pairs or just take them on a per job basis?

as with bittenyakka, i only have one set of wildfire gloves (something else to get out of the equip. officer) and they live in my lvl1 gear

I think that site is referring to 100MPH tape or gaffer tape rather than the 50mm pvc tape that we know as duct tape here.
HOW IT'S MADE:
Duct tape is a strong tape that is composed of three layers. The top layer (1) is a resilient plastic (Polyethelyne). The bottom layer (3) is a rubber-based adhesive. The middle layer (2) is a fabric mesh. Duct tape was manufactured by pressing these three layers together. Now, some manufacturers have created a process that makes the same strong, three layer tape in just one step. While there are stronger tapes (like filament tape), duct tape, when doubled over onto itself can pull a 2000 lb. car out of a ditch, and has the distinct benefit of not requiring any other tools to cut it - you just rip it with your bare hands.

Ours is locked up, but only with the normal station key.
No sense in having it locked up if members cannot access it when they need to. Things don't tend to break on training nights.

so so tru...my brigade is a rural one full of farmers...hence reason why i was lil shocked when they said it ws all locked up

Only three peolpe have a key to our equipment cupboard, our equip. officer, her husband and our captain.
