Post by: BundyBear on April 16, 2013, 12:01:45 AM
Anyone know how the CFS and the CFS VA are getting on with this?

There is a Facebook campaign and a twitter campaign.
On twitter follow @VFFCGroup and @tccack.
Hashtags are #CFSEquality.

Unsure of FB as I dont use it.

The CFSVA have attempted a few sanctions but unsure of if they have accomplished anything.
There is little being done about the issue overall.

From speaking to various members I have found they have no idea of the issue.
They heard about some sanctions, but gave them little effort if any.

It'd be interesting to see how that would go with National Parks firefighters also seeing as they to an extent come under the CFS banner. Not to take any shine off exposures by vollies but DEWNR firefighters, especially those who have been arond for many years are easily the most (bushfire) smoke exposed firefighters in the state. 30+ prescribed burns a year exposed to consistently heavy smoke for many hours a day, many days in a row, then add the standard fires that happen during the season account for a huge intake of smoke.

A little birdy told me that any claims will be deducted from the applicable services budget!?!?!?!?
How will the CFS cope with that???
Might change a few opinions, especially now the state election is over!

The study and evidence used by the professional fireys wasn't based on bushfire smoke. Cfs go to a lot of structure fires.

m&p,
I'm sure ferret rides on a red truck.

It might be best to leave it alone and let the CFS fight their own battle.

You are correct.  CFS, just like MFS and SES - the whole government intact, is Workcover Self Insured.  This means they do not pay full premiums, but a percentage of (basically a compliance fee), so less $ value in regular outgoings, but it means payouts are self funded.

So yes, any payout does come from the organisations budget.  Then up to the organisation to apply to treasury to get the funding back if deemed 'excessive' or effects the overall budget adversely.
