SAAS / Re: SAAS PTO intake 2010
« on: March 03, 2010, 08:12:50 PM »
welcome to the first round of cost efficient staffing....coming to a SAAS station near you.....

if you dont roster those peskie overpaid SAAS types on nights, when theres no work and they can sleep all the time....then they dont need that cushy RIR....and our Health Budget is better off, and theres more vehicles on the road between 8am and 4pm when the (perceived) public need is higher. This means u could get by with a RIR crew starting later at 2ish (1400ish for non SAAS paramedics) say...and finishing at say....0400. One RIR crew per station instead of 2.....38% ish cut in salary costs......

Think it cant happen?

just following on from the Sturt Group job in Upper Sturt the other night, saw an interesting media grab from one of the firefighters at the scene, who is also a Staff member in town. Very foolish comments, and hardly a professional image. I didnt think random firefighters were supposed to speak to the media?

Can't imagine the Chief or any of the deputies would be too happy with him.....

yes Bronto you're right....and u can then sit and wait for Region to approve more resources or wave the last copy of the Old Testament to the East, or whatever the hell else they do.....of course, Adelaide Fire will know whats going on cos they check in on 124, and monitor other TGs, but hey, dont let the facts get in the way of an emotive argument will you

Didnt say it was perfect, said it worked for them......from what I saw on TV tonight, looked like a fair save given the ground and the size of the job (and that a few Brigades had been dragged down the hill partially to another earlier fire. Havent heard anyone mention that they might have actually saved some stuff with the screwed up, non standard approach........but hey, I'm sure theres something else u can bitch about in that too

Yeah its a bit strange,  they dont even use TG124 to call mobile to incidents...

Once ya start doing strange procedures to Non-Sturt Group brigades... High level of confusion is a Risk...

but ey...what they do is what they do...

Nice development by adelaide fire:  "BELR01" is the Belair Response + Sirens... good stuff!!

Keeping all CRD in a centralised format is where CFS should be heading...Hail SACAD.. lol
I think what you are seeing is the new (informal) arrangement between Sturt, Lofty, Mawson (maybe) and Heyson (maybe) to rapidly turn out what they need and then worry about the formalities later.

Their base responds to the page on TG124 and then runs the incident including extra resources, its just a different way of operating......has fors and againsts, but it works for them, and I've always found them pretty on the ball to work with, or respond into their area.....so if its not broke, dont worry about it

SAAS / Re: New Private Ambulance Award
« on: February 14, 2010, 08:53:58 PM »
lol....less than $20 an hr as an AO...theres an award worth living on...lolol....dont believe that theres too many companies operating in SA that have too much to worry about not exceeding that particular clause.

If all you're gonna do is pay THIS award....it will be hard to attract quality people..lol

the first article is a typical Ambulance Union response.....no-one can do it better than our members.....and they miss their cushy overtime, so these other guys must be crap.

The second...well, doesnt really say much other than the people involved allegedly didnt hurry.

Just remember as well, that all these new guys will work under much more scrutiny than SAAS do. They will have all manner of people (like yourself) ready to jump on and publicise the smallest error or delay to suit their own ends. SAAS doesnt have the same external scrutiny and the public doesnt get to hear of hardly any of the screw ups, issues or failures. These are kept internal and "addressed" by clinical audit. Did the recent sacking of an ICP make the news?....nope. Should it have? In a perfect system open to public scrutiny, of course. You take the kudos as well as the lumps equally. If he worked for a private provider, you bet your arse it would have been trotted out by the AEU as proof of the privatisation demon.

My only point in all of this.....is SAAS isnt the sole bastion of quality care and expertise, and we shouldn't feel so prescious and threatened by those that dont wear a blue or green....or whatever colour uniform we end up with next week

Oh and lastly.......yes SAAS undertake the all of the investigative processes for licensing private providers, their recommendation goes to the Minister, who then signs off on it. The reality on the street.....SAAS aprove or not.

firstly Paramedical Services dont have the SAJC contract......another company, a SA one at that does I'm lead to believe. Given that they deal with emergency work now....no reason at all they cant deal with the races and anything that occurs there.

I'm not a proponent or involved with any of them, but I've seen enough to know that quality people exist outside of SAAS.....being prescious about being the only experts in town, makes us look like like we have the proverbial chip on our shoulder.

Given they they have had SAAS approve them, not sure what u guys are worried about?....or did they knock u back for a job?..lol

oh dear 360......your clinical envy is showing... it IS possible for there to be another group of people in SA that are perfectly capable of treating said injury, who dont happen to work for SA Health....in fact they will have far better equipment than SAAS does to do so

Gee doesn't SAAS want to keep anything that makes them $$$?

Ray has been trying to off this for ages, he has stated many times that emergency crews have no place doing first aid at public events, and yes....i'm sure he will be happy to save the overtime..lol

to some degree the "it's your job ....you get paid shitloads, just do it" crowd are justified, because rightly or wrongly they are legitimate cases (without making the moral judgements on self responsibility). It's a poorly scripted piece from SA Health to drive the anti-binge drinking message which is using the ambulance service to change behaviour..... for me, not the right way to go about it. Whinging to the public about their behaviour seldom changes it.

Having said that, the City and surrounding cars (even those pesky little Sprints)get flogged on the weekends in the CBD and some meaningful relief for them from this I'm sure would be appreciated
