I don't think Cousins should be playing... Guess that sums up my opinion of him.

SAAS / Re: SAAS Callsign
« on: March 26, 2009, 09:51:17 AM »
I think BM has already elaborated on what the call sign is..

80
Hehe.. - Well, considering his claim was from SAAS, I thought it might be better not to draw the government into this.. :p

But hey, could have been worth a giggle or two! ;)

Point of this thread is.. ?   (Other than you were clearly bored this afternoon)..

-Will move this to off-topic if it is soley based on copying 'Stock on Road' calls from the pager website. The Incident Operations thread is meant to be a little more than another pager fest of Kangys stock calls.

Im happy to leave it here. Its in the SAMFS section, and is based on 2009 Recruitment, which is still what is being discussed. :)

If it strays too much, PM me and we can make something happen.. ;)

Ah yes, 24P was at a rubbish fire job. You did well to see the callsign of the spare truck from Doctors Road.

Not to mention while travelling.. Seeing through those trees as they flick past is never easy, not to mention the dense foliage coming out of the creek, and the angle of which the station faces it..

-I concur with Matt, must have a decent pair of eyes for a passer by.. ;)

That isn't unusual for a 'Hazmat Reduced' response.

The second response, should have been a normal Hazmat response.

-The same questions were asked a few years ago, went to a 'Hazmat Reduced' Cholorine Bomb Explosion.  Sense? ..

Country Fire Service / Re: Burn Over Curtains for Command Cars

In all honesty I think it is a much safer option for them to stay out of the "Hot zone" I guess you could call it...

Ever tried to get a GO to do that? It ain't easy

You voted them in, didn't you?

BTW Al, In very general terms we found with all the testing we did and speaking to a number of fire system engineers that our standard 24P / 34P pumps will be adequate if you only want to boost to one hydrant at a distance of about 100m, if you have sprinklers flowing or want any more hydrants then you are probably going to struggle.

If the need arises for serious boosting, I have a feeling more than one hydrant is going to be tapped, and as you suggested, a highly likely chance sprinklers will be operating. So yeah, the rural P's will definately struggle a little.

My 2c.

As some have stated, 4 in and 4 out, means 8 hoses into the rear of the truck.

Have fun reaching over to which ever switches and dials you need to get to. Not to mention jumping over the lines to go to either side of the truck. - That is one of the only real design faults, or more should I say, designer points, that I disagree with.

Sure, you can argue all day that you should be able to use the pump regardless, and sure, I agree. But splitting lines to the side makes it easier. Fact. You can send a delivery off either side, while keeping the rear of the appliance less cluttered. - Has its pro's and cons sure. Everything does! But I have to agree that having all 4 in and out from the rear of the truck will get messy.

I know SES in the past have participated in Level 1 courses. - basic knowledge in fire fighting safety and principles, guess is meant to give them better understanding if assisting at larger incidents / working with CFS members.

A command vehicle fitted with Burnover Curtains is only marginally safer than a standard vehicle. I think "Safety First" is a better option.

So if its

safer, and you happen to get caught, then why not fit them? .. Marginally safer, speaks for itself. Its safer!

I think them amount of fires re-attended by CFS / DEH over the years, far out-weighs those re-attended by SAMFS.

Unless your saying its okay, because your not Professional in the CFS??

-Didn't think so...

I have a feeling Darren would probably be in the 'know', of which stations are the busiest..

You get that distinct sort of knowledge, when you turn them out and talk to them day & night..

But long distance driving aren't the killer of the big Diesal's.. Its the quick starting, driving cold, stopping and starting in city streets, operating a max capacity for short distances and over short, regular intervals, that eventually kill these trucks.. Hence, starting in adelaide, then moving to 'slower' stations, so to speak, is a great idea..

206, you make mention or hint of being in town yourself.. Why not go upstairs and voice your complaints to the boss or the OCC? Im sure it would serve you better than to question it in here.

Paid ESL.

Although cant always have it, can get a bit tricky when trying to take ESL from one Emergency Service to go and volunteer for another.

http://www.transfieldservices.com/page/Industry_Sectors/Property_and_Facilities_Management/Defence - Look under careers. Transfield have the contract run the Fire Service at the RAAF Airbase at Edinburgh, in Adelaide.
