So perhaps you could ammend that to "I don't know anything about SFEC" ?

Basically, SFEC looks at what risks you have in your area, thus classifying your brigade. Then, that classifiction is used to determine Appliances/Special Eqip/Membership levels/Specialist Skills/% of members that can be trained etc etc etc

From memory the classifications are:

1)Rural
2)Rural/Urban
3)Urban/Rural
4)Urban

Confirm/Deny? (and yes, Rural/Urban and Urban/Rural are two different classifications)

Also comedy answer:

SFEC's are the excuse given for refusing everything that your brigade asks for beyond a 24, BF1 and L1 PPE.

Wait... Thats not comedy...

As the SFEC is dated 2000 is it out of date by 10 years????

out of curiosity how often are brigades area's checked to see if they have changed needs? as for example i'd imagine seaford / auldinga would have gone from a rural or rural urban bridage to a more urban bridge

CFS hasn't done a review for at least 15 years. They will only do something if you push and push and push. So the standards of fire cover are dangerously out of date.

Yeah and even when they admit a brigade needs better equipment they just say sorry you wont get it until we feel like giving it to you....

Firstly i apologise for maybe not having the wealth of knowledge of some people on here and secondly apologise for asking questions!

What does the threat values relate to? ie is that residential buildings int he urban area? type of building?

2 x recent SFEC variation requests both took nearly a year for a decision!

Problem is if they look at updating the SFEC it will cost a few dollars. They don't have money to spend.

Get yourself a copy of the SFEC document... as other have said its dated 2000, but it does make a very interesting read. There should be copies available from... uh.. Region? Maybe? or State?

Couple of nice upgrades. Fairly happy.

Go from a rural to a rural/urban pumper (read 34p).
2 air sets up to 4.
Get a QRV.

Of course when the money actually exists to have these changes occur is yet to be seen.

Meanwhile however, two of our neighboring brigades have lost 2 air sets each, one of them has given up BA all together. Not sure if any appliances are going or being downgraded. By rights one of our neighbors would probably lose one, 2 trucks  for 30 odd jobs a year is a joke, especially when they can't crew one of them...

I think we gain a third chainsaw... nothing else changes for us.

We currently have 6 BA sets, have been told we are dropping to 4.

We arent to happy about that considering we cover 8000 residents, a couple dozen plus B class risks, 2 schools, 2 Nursing Homes one 90 bed the other 60 beds and a shopping complex that is only partially sprinklered.  Also our area is continually growing in population.

Apparently because we have BA backup that is close by, now for me close by being a minimum of 20-25 minutes away with those risks isnt really all that close.

Also apparently a brigade further up the road from us who have a bit less population and similar other risks is going from 4 sets to 6 i dont quite get it.

We will try and fight to keep the current BA we have but who knows if that will be successful.

Isn't that one based on numbers of BA qualified crews - no point having the sets if you don't have the crew????

Not sure about that though but we have had to argue a couple of similar situations in Swanport Group brigades.......

We currently have 12 or 13 BA operators with a couple more to go through this year so do meet the minimums.
