The old card system Fixed Alarm panels did some strange things during blackouts. Particularly when the internal battery was flat.

Seems you may have already identified part of the problem, just need to push to get it fixed.

The Basic rescue course in on its way out Zippy. Just need those up top to sign off on the new Rescue Operations course....

Alot of courses at STC are still run fri night, sat and sun, and im quite fond of this. With unit level courses it depends on who is co-ordinating it as to how it runs though. Its all about group dynamics, and fitting into peoples life styles.

SES dont offer a tree felling course.
Even if they did, I think it would be a decision better left to NPWS if possible/practical

« on: June 23, 2008, 12:11:13 PM »
Yesterday (22/6) was a day for Hazmat operators to Visit Burnside to attend various sessions and updates about various equipment.

Sessions included CBRNE investigations, Hospital Mass Decon Pod, Absorbents and Adsorbents, Radiation and Gas monitoring.

It was a very informative and valuable day which was enjoyed by all.

Thanks to the Guys for their efforts. :)

Back on topic is a good idea :)

Be careful not to chastise people due to your beliefs. Being employed by the CFS does not necessarily taint ones opinions, besides it not up to us to decide what someone else does for a living.

Happy posting.

People need to be a little more open to those that are trying to use the site to broaden their knowledge. Yes the information is dubious at times, and this cannot really be avoided. The aim is to educate those who either do not know or may be on the wrong path.

With all that in mind, i can say some of the more directed posts have been met with some fantastic replies in the last couple of weeks. Well worded, thought out and to the point. Whilst maintaining the dignity the forums seek.

Maybe we should look at why the majority of our members dont post. Some may be personal, but i would suspect it maybe due to the attitudes some of our more regular posters. Tribalism is interesting.

Be you paid or volunteer of whatever level, we need to be more welcoming and inviting. Whilst maintaining an open mind and portraying an open attitude.

Personally I thank firefrog for the time and effort he puts into this site. Whilst i dont post overly often, its provided me with an open place to vent on occasions, gather opinions, and certainly got me thinking about some stuff i wouldnt have otherwise considered.

There is always new stuff for people to learn and consider, treat questions with this manner and we will get a much more value packed site yet!

Cheers

geeez... ill give ya two guesses. Could be the chilly reception from some...  :|

Chilly?... somewhat frozen perhaps.  * Offers warm inviting hugs :-D *

 :-P The devil in me suggests that we should ask to change the Country Fire Service to:

Country & Semi Urban Fire & Rescue Service

As the original doesnt cover everything we do very well any more  :-P (sorry couldnt resist the dig  :-D )

Valid suggestion. Personally Im happy with the current looks. Its still easy to navigate, and is a little more inviting to those of the other services when you dont have to go digging for relevant boards...

Fire Fighter Training / Re: BFF1
« on: February 20, 2008, 06:49:41 AM »
The standards of training for BFF1 were substancially eroded when they lost control of the trainers. That made the course almost as useful as level 1.

Supress Wildfire has a very specific group of instructors that must be assessed by a regional officer at their first course. I would hope this is followed up with other assessments. -Point being- it creates a much more controlled, benaficial system.

By adopting a similar stance for BFF1 ensures that consistant and correct info is being communicated...

The downside is that it puts more strain on those accredited instructors... :(

There are many reason people may wish to stay annonymous. Its up to the individual, and perfectly acceptable to remain that way.

SA Firefighter General / Re: SAAS Responding Other Services..
« on: February 05, 2008, 08:17:24 AM »
A major part of emergency service work is reactive work. As such all services should strive to get the reaction to an incident correct 100% of the time.

The initial reaction (response) in this case, is not happening 100% and that is why we encourage all these incidents to be reported by the appropriate people in the appropriate manner.

I think the main gripe here is the perceived (or actual?) lack of investigation/action from the reports lodged.

People need to vent occasionally, just need to make sure that any person/service is not being targeted unnecessarily.
