SAMFS / Career Structure SAMFS
« on: August 01, 2009, 03:01:44 PM »
G'day All,

Was wondering how the career structure works and how advancement up the levels/ranks works do you have to do a minimum time in each rank?. Also what is the rough income per year for each rank level.

Thanks in advance

Q Does QFRS consider previous firefighter experience?
A Yes. QFRS values any previous firefighter experience that applicants possess.

Applicants with one year or more full time equivalent as a permanent firefighter or three years or more active service as a part time/ auxiliary firefighter, will receive additional points for their application.

Evidence of this experience should be included when submitting an application.

Does this also apply to the SAMFS when looking at candidates? specifically do they value CFS training/volley experience? Anyone in the know?

Cheers

I reckon thats very piss poor if they give you no feedback at all!!!! :x, sounds like a cruel process I guess it is intentionally done this way due to the shear number of people wanting to get in, the old supply versus demand. Just turn into Arnie Schwarzenegger for next year and throw one of the interviewers over your shoulder and run around the block five times, that would be sure to impress them  :-D.

Personally i'd rather see money going towards victims, than trophys.

c'mon I don't think a little badge and a letter is going to break the bank. You have missed the whole point of sending out the letter.

Sorry to hear that mate, any clues as to why or do they leave you in the dark?

Cheers

Is it just me? I think you guys should be proud of what you did, I think the VIC gov can spare some $$$ to recognise your contribution on behalf of the people of VIC. A badge and letter may seem unimportant at present but when your old and and crusty I'm sure your grandkids will think it's a big deal.

Cheers all

I am not entirely convinced that the technology is able to do it better than a person, at least in the metro area. I use one every day and find that they are ok about 80% of the time but for an emergency response 80% is not good enough. They might be better in a rural area where there are less roads but I think that there are still a lot of variables in the urban areas that a device can not take into account.

I agree it would have to be something high end, the old TomTom would not cut the mustard. Improved technology has to be a bonus e.g. GPS fleet tracking so if a truck gets in trouble(as in the Vic fires)the rescue truck can be guided straight to it due to an exact lat long being known which can be displayed on a moving map. In the US they have systems that police use so at any one time any patrol car can see were all his mates are located via a touch screen display. Do SAPOL have anything like this? This may be over the top for the CFS but I can see it's value in a major event like what occurred in Vic?

Sounds like a pretty cool system it would have to make faster response times. How does the system work when the station is not manned. I'm assuming the PC printer etc would have to be left on ready? when humans are not at the station. A GPS interface would be unreal, could have Topo maps/nav software in the truck and would tell you how to get there.

Being involved in a community or volunteer group eg. lifesaving club, coaching or helping out with a sporting team or club will help.

Am wondering why the CFS is not mentioned? I would have thought being a volunteer protecting your community and being a member in a fire service would be close to being number one on the recruiters list?. Or is there a bit of us and them going on,does the MFS value the training and standards of the CFS?. As a memeber of the public and a home owner living in a rural area I certainly do!. Look forward to hearing comments.
