Country Fire Service / Re: Firefighter Response System
« on: September 10, 2011, 09:51:05 AM »
No problem here, I think it is a great idea, as has been mentioned, the trucks will roll quicker - this can only be a good thing.

I just find that it is not right to have one brigade using this system when it is clear that it would benefit all brigades regardless of callout stats and funds. In my opinion this would be an 'operational' modification to part of CFS turnout procedure, a suggestion for the better which I would have thought would be passing through a chain of command prior to being implemented............not just one brigade doing it because they can.

FYI Our Group officer did involve region, prior to the trial of the system....

Country Fire Service / Firefighter Response System
« on: September 07, 2011, 09:47:45 AM »
Thought I would let you all know about the firefighter response system, we have just installed at the Mt Barker fire station, it’s an excellent system, the member simply presses a button on their phone, it’s a toll free number, don't have to talk to anyone and it logs your name on the computer at the station as responding (takes all of 5 seconds to do). Has already helped with managing the staffing on our trucks. Instead of wondering if 2 drivers are coming, or BA or RCR crew or in fact enough to actually send 2 trucks.
The developer has worked with us for some time now, adapting it to the Australian network/fire service. The website is http://www.advancedfrs.com/.

Sounds like it was for a patient lift... but if CFS were sent to this job first up, you can help someone heaps by just doing your basic first aid...
Remember basic care DRABC and scene management
•   Make sure the patient is safe –eliminating dangers
•   Reassurance and basic psychological support
•   Posture the patient for comfort or splint
•   Temperature control - make sure the patient is kept warm
Ring SAAS/000 for further first aid support/advise/sitrep

Incident Operations / Re: Burnover at Dawesley
« on: December 05, 2010, 03:54:54 PM »
No Burn over occurred.  B34Ps Pump failed during attacking one of the flanks of the fire, leaving the crew with no pressure. The truck was on burnt ground, so the guys just waited until the flank went past and it was safe to drive out. Another crew got anxious when they saw the truck disappear in the smoke and called it in.
At one stage N24P became stuck on some rocks, damaged lockers and tyres etc. Other crews knocked down the fire before it got to them.
Certainly agree that the newer trucks are not built for that nature of work.

Incident Operations / RCR Oakbank

Mt barker, and apparently, they flew to the job in record time...

What are you trying to say Zippy...Barker has a good run to Oakbank and often arrives first for rescue in that area, for many years it has been an area of debate as to who should go.

Haha that’s funny trust me Barker Rescue doesn’t go that fast. Standard issue turnout for us zippy, we had to stop for a few red lights along the way as well.  As pumprescue said, we are not that faraway (13k drive) it’s actually about halfway between Lobethal and Barker.

Yes not sure about the b pillar in the air either but on another website it looks like it may be the trim only??  But once again why not spend the extra minute removing it.. but i wasn't there so there is probably a good reason for it to be like that:) still good job to all involved

a. The driver’s side B pillar was not cut high as it was impinging on the
Patients head, in this case it was suitable to lift it straight up and cover it.
b. Paramedics wanted the patient out quickly.  :-)

Country Fire Service / Re: Booster Commisioning
« on: June 05, 2010, 10:38:13 PM »
How do the cfs 34p and 24urp go with mains pressure 4in/4out? How often do hills brigades pratice with the boosters? I heard of a site being installed in the hills ie near mt barker with a triple pump and tank set up. Should be good for cfs to practise with  8-)

34p/24ps are obviously very limited in their boosting capability, depends on the system and the mains pressure.... Can only speak for our brigade but, Booster/sprinkler/alarm panel training is included in our regular training. We have so many different systems, just lucky that we have a few MFS members that are able to facilitate the training.. Our brigade is still waiting to do the Check Installed Fire Safety Systems course..... But the CFS doesn’t seem to care about urban risks......

CFS Staff from the Building fire safety unit were out with a local brigade last week testing flow rates etc on new booster set up at one of the local primary schools in the Hills.

That booster set up was one of the first completed in the hills area, under the recent building program, with many more to come over the next few months, as system are completed.

Yeh that was the 4th booster/flow rate test, which I have done in our response area this year... Lost count of how many we have now...
