Title: 12's
Post by: firetruck on June 29, 2006, 01:54:56 PM
i am aware that are a select few 12 appliances still in operation within the CFS today in Region 1. did anyone else have these appliances over time? It is just that i have only heard of the three in region 1.

There were a number of 12's in the CFS (and 22's as well!).   However,as you say, only three left currently in service across the state.

CFS seems to have gone down the track of having 4 x 4's, or larger urban type 4x2's, and hence the 12's (and 22's ) are being phased out of service...

12 Appliances are great it is a pity they are being phased out although not suitable for the adelaide hills (off the road) the shear pumping capacity of these appliances filtered (couldn't think of a better word) all over 24, 24P, 34, 34P and it gives most pumpers a good run for their money especially for its size.

Oh Stirling 12 was my favourite appliance to drive....very good for accessing driveways with low branches the amount of saves we had with it.Pumps are fantastic definitely put all the others to shame :-D

The others are

Upper Sturt 12
Aldgate 12

They are the three in Region 1

Yeah that is fine but not many brigades are lucky enough to have 4 or 5 trucks sitting their stations to certain types of jobs.So the bigger trucks or 14`s will be the go for most brigades.

Many brigades had purpose built appliances to service the demographics of their response areas.

The focus has now shifted to the OHSW angle,of more water per appliance to reduce the possibility of burnovers, and having that 20% left in the tank when it comes
