Having issues in the emergency services always feels awkward, but coming forward can sometimes help. However, for breaches of OH&S there are certain avenues that could be followed, perhaps a VSO isn't the best option, and something more like a letter to mr. Nygaard would be more appropriate.

Venting over a forum, and making specific allegations however isn't the best possible, nor most mature option, and could be construed as harrassment or defamation if the wrong person reads it.

I hope the issues continue to resolve, (but bearing in mind there may be two sides to the story,) in such a way that it benefits everyone and allows everyone to come to some kind of closure.

this forum is full of people that have opinions and dont want to do anything about it just write it on a screen and feel good about them selves. sorry but emergency services isnt that nice you get slaged off abused all sorts i have been on SES taskings and abused by CFS personel so you want me to slag people off i can cause i have been tame

SO ANYBODY TAHT WANTS TO HAVE A GO BRING IT ON

You're evidently very young and angry. Perhaps you need to find an appropriate place to vent said testosterone before it gets you in trouble.

Yes, there will always be rivalry between services in a town... Unfortunately, the attitude is grandfathered into young ones like yourself, as opposed to ignored.  Slag off whoever you want champ, it will only serve to make you look less professional, less mature and fuel the problems that the younger lot should be working toward fixing.

Perhaps you could spend some of that time you use mouthing off on here to learn how to properly construct a sentence. I see we've managed paragraphs, soon your posts will actually be LEGIBLE. Think of that!

Perhaps you should go to the size up in overalls or invest in a 2-piece... it would stop a lot of constriction which is probably the source of some of that anger!

i understand that as a captain you have to make decissions that can affect the outcome of peoples lives but can i ask how often do you have mulitple services telling you to hurry up or complainig that it took 10mins extra to be paged or telling you how to do your job i understand that at times you have to say no to your BA crews going in or what ever but as a volunteer firefighter how often do you get to an mva and get to decide who lives and who dies im pretty sure i know the answer i know that no matter what service your in it gets stressful but as an ambulance officer i am responsible for the protection of life and prefention of futher harm as an ambulance officer i dont need crews complaining that we are going slow or that they had to wait an extra 10mins before they got paged but reflect on your time as an ambo how often did this happen to you and now as a captain how often do you complain. complaining to the crews there isnt going to help you need to follow the chain. i am getting used to other services complaining and i love listening to it and laughing PIP this was not aimed at you or any paticular service all i was trying to get accross is that fact that VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE OFFICERS are under a lot of presure at jobs and dont need the extra presure put on them by other services infact my team are looking in to being trained in basic princepls or RCR so they know what the RCR crew are able to do and mabye make it a bit quicker between arriveing and getting the RCR crews working

Everyone is under a lot of stress at these jobs. The problem is the caveman mentality involved in whose tribe is first at the car... You guys need to grow up and have a nice big chat over what SHOULD happen at an RCR and train together...

I also have a headache from trying to decipher these posts you keep making. Is there any possibility of not having a wall of unpunctuated text in every thread please? Full stops, capitals and spaces don't generally take much longer to put in...

ahh k i see...

would make sense for SES rescue crews to have some protection from fire... believe the current gear has a bit of proban treatment>?

The new SES PPE has Proban included in the material. I think even my older overalls has the treatment (need to check later).

You can tell the new SES PPE because they have padded knees & "SES RESCUE" on them.

Actually, they're more like crotch pads unless you have disproportionately short legs... 2 piece old style all the way...

Perhaps you should consult a dictionary so you can look up "professional".
You are only kidding yourself.

You have to wonder about professionalism when you have someone with less than eloquent linguistic skills representing an organization with juvenile remarks designed to "stir the pot" on a public forum.

Does your station have very low call rate? Is it difficult to find something worthwhile to do? Perhaps it's time to remove some of the troglodyte mentality, or go back to your cave and be quiet.

Which reputation? The obnoxious, the opinionated, or the loud?

I think the point the Barker boys have been trying to make for a few years now is why bother doing the job if you get no support from the region or cfs management....

How can you take a heavy pumper away from an area only growing in size and urban call rate.???

Why not give them another rural truck like they wanted to support the rural area, but leave them with 2 Urban appliances to support the urban sprawl???

If you ain't gonna do this why do the job at all, 2nd rate trucks, 2nd rate fire service.

Marry me.. :-P

Country Fire Service / Re: Experiance on of OIC
« on: June 06, 2007, 08:01:58 AM »
...

the thing to remember is though, if a FF is the most experienced/qualified person on the crew, then is the crew really adequate to respond at all?

In a lot of cases, YES. A red stripe or a yellow helmet in the CFS is the result of a vote, not necessarily a ringing declaration of competence or leadership. Yes, a brigade may have the best in place, but in a lot of cases there ARE other firefighters with just as much, if not MORE experience who are just that; firefighters.

As long as the level of experience and qualifications of the crew as a whole are adequate, and these are taken into account then why SHOULDNT a truck full of white helmets be, as Mack put it, "Adequate" to get the job done?

Coles were generally very good about my leaving for callouts, however, having moved recently into a Telecommunication Sales position its a little more difficult! Still get my 3 days a week as responding day crew, so all good! :-D

I think the point Camo is trying to make is they (a retained station) wouldnt get out any quicker than a CFS brigade. I think Mt Barker do an excellent job of looking after the town.

Thanks  :-D We do try!

Nothing is ever certain in the CFS, but that fleet would make the most sense...

Since when has any fleet decisions in the CFS made sense?

A lot of decisions have ranged from the bizarre to the preposterous.

True, but a lot of fleet options are quite limited by the budget we're given, though some don't make sense, best we can do is our job with what we have...

SA Firefighter General / Re: Election comments
« on: March 27, 2007, 11:36:25 AM »
Unfortunately, in any collective there will be people who don't get along, there will be cliques and there will be a degree of immaturity.

As far as saying "if X gets in, I will hand in my resignation" , it does go to show that the people in question have very little dedication if they are unable to work around someone they don't get along with. Yes, there are people i would LOATHE to work under who will run for our elections, but I will vote according to who is best for the positions, not necessarily those I like the most, and if it ends up otherwise, then it will be dealt with as it comes. The community comes first, and I'd like to think that most people feel that way.

It will remain, unfortunately, as long as the voting system for officers remains constitutional. The fact of the matter is that bias based upon popularity will always be a factor in these elections, as while there is a minimum term of service before one can run for said position, there is no minimum qualification level. Yes, leadership courses are on offer, but no one is forced to take the things.

Malicious comments always happen, whether you hear them or not. Sadly, there are plenty of people who are so insecure about their own place in the brigade, and degree of competance that they find it necessary to have at least one scapegoat. Those happen whether its election time or nowhere NEAR the next one.

This being said, good luck all, and hope that everyone's end in the best possible outcome.

We should make this the official firefighter joke page.
The in-jokes that people have about their occupations are great.
I have a chef for a brother who loves telling anyone who will listen that
"he is allergic to bacon, apparently he comes out in rashers..."

Anyone know any good/lame firey jokes????  :?

After a couple of beers I've been known to come out with some interesting ones... Innuendo is always classic!
