I believe Blackwood did respond to this job, so why were Eden turned out at all ??

Sturt DO asked for them to be responded.  Not sure why though.

Members section of the CFS website.

Under the Publications -> Standards of Fire and Emergency Cover headings.

Some interesting reading, although it's going to take a while to get through it all!

what time is it expected to go live?

Last I heard was some time late tomorrow (Monday) night.  When, will be dependent on how busy the various services are.

The crew deck should stay as a statewide fire service, these vehicles need to be able to deal with all types of rural fire suituations.

I completely disagree!  Putting a crew deck on an appliance in my station is about as useless as putting a 4000 lpm pump on Mount Hope 34.  We are a statewide fire service, which is why we need to be able to build different appliances to suit the different areas we cover.

I'd much rather have the extra locker space.

Well said, both of you.  We can't ask for respect while at the same time proving we aren't worthy of it.

Where is the ad for Origin showing up, and what was the fundraising for? A specific campaign, or general CFSVA revenue?

Once mobile they are hardly going to task/divert an appliance to a different job. It is assumed that if you book mobile you will get to the job.  Once job complete, book available so AF can re-task if necessary.

Ah, but if you've booked arrived, then SACAD lists you as at the location of the incident, so if you book available again and a second job occurs nearby you can be sent as the closest available resource...  That's the theory anyway...

I think the CFS goons chose to do that so they can have 1 last little thing to hang onto as being under local control rather than go through comms. Your right though, keep masking the problems, although CAD will expose a lot of people, those stations with multiple appliances will have to get them on the road now rather than just mask over it with the 2nd and 3rd appliances rarely turning a wheel.

And meanwhile the stations that can crew those second trucks can't respond them because SACAD will respond neighbouring brigades first...

The issue of arrival messages is a complicated one.  Unless Adelaide Fire are willing to take comms for all incidents, (and they'd need to be properly resourced for that), local stations / group bases are still going to open for comms, and that means using a local talkgroup.  You can't realistically expect trucks to switch back to the regional talkgroup to notify of their arrival, nor can you expect them to stay on the regional talkgroup until they arrive, so the only sane choice is to leave arrival notifications until Adelaide Fire can take comms for all incidents...

Alex,

This procedure was explained last night at Gum groups pre-fire season operational briefing. Most officers in the group were present and are now aware...

Who explained this procedure?  Was it an official thing from region, or just the group being proactive about it?

thats not that funny unless you know that the first page read respond grass fire.

And it gets even funnier when you know the grassfire was supposed to be some anthills on fire! :D

Helpme, it sounds like you've really got something against urban fringe brigades.  Did a girl (or boy) in one of them turn you down?

I would just like to say a warm hello to all the staff monitoring this site ;)

You were doing so well on your own! ;)

I'm sorry my positive comments offended the "regulars". I must learn that this site is not about "free speech" but agreeing with the 10 or so regular posters.

Your views are welcome, however your personal attacks on forum members are not.  Had you read the rest of this thread you would have seen quite clearly why some brigades provided negative feedback, and it should have been obvious that these opinions were justified, despite being different from your own.
I'm sure we'd all be happy to hear about your positive experience, but dismissing everyone else's in favour of yours in not helpful.

Country Fire Service / Re: Firefighter Response System
« on: September 09, 2011, 02:23:38 PM »
What are the major differences between TIMS and FRS, other than offshore processing ?

FRS is a remotely hosted online solution, so anyone can access it from anywhere, (with the right password).  This is a big advantage because it means duty officers (or even CRD) can check the system from anywhere.  Of course, it also means there are more points of failure, as it relies on multiple networks to operate.  The RFS system also allows for rostering (I believe) and the ability to call in and mark yourself as unavailable (so a duty officer can easily see who's in area).

The TIM system on the other hand is fully based at the local fire station. It attaches to a scanner or fire station interface to identify local responses and display them.  It cannot be accessed from outside, and is dependent on a single computer.  The ability to call in as responding is done by using caller ID on a phone line attached to a modem on that computer, so the system is essentially free.

The two are coming from different directions though, and fullfill different roles - the FRS is directed towards personnel management (who is available and who is responding) and TIMS is more about turnout management (what you're responding to and where it is).

What a great sense of initiative from the Mt Barker crew.

I would think the reason for not being able to give a fixed price is that the Mt Barker one is the first one in the system. But still $65 is only $780 for the year, not a major expense really.

You should probably give some credit to Morphette Vale for investigating this some time ago as part of the TIM system... ;)

http://www.safirefighter.com/boards/index.php?topic=1754.25

The idea of integrating it with TIM was also free for people already using it.

Having said that, the FRS looks pretty good (especially taking into account the rostering stuff).  I look forward to seeing the final cost they come up with.

Has anyone seen the CFS stand at this year's show?
I hear they're pushing the "Not Just a Bushfire Service" message quite hard.
Anyone have photos by any chance?

When does it go live? Who will praise and who will curse?

Word on the street is the 25th of October.  I'm guessing the government will praise, and everyone else will curse?

never had the problem of not getting through to adelaide fire, had plenty of problems getting put on hold at link paging. couple of times i;ve had to use the web site to drop crew pages

It was in response to the storm events last year, when things were so hectic in the comms centres the non emergency lines weren't being answered.

The acknowledgement line is different to the general link paging line, so they shouldn't get put on hold as long.
