Moomba I believe now has a brigade,
Pip

I am lead to believe, by a relative who works at Moomba, that all their emergancy responses, training, etc, is done by Santos Fire and Emergancy Services employees. I may be wrong, and if so I will stand corrected, however that is what my cousin told me.

Considering Pt Wakefield road does not go to the south of Adelaide, I would hope whoever confirmed that call with SHQ checked the location.

My brigade is sitting on 281 as of last night, and there is a group of us that are at nearly every job, and I know we are getting tired, due to the constant juggling act to find time for day to day stuff. Yet we still respond to the station when the pager goes cause we love what we do and we want to serve our community to the best of our abilities.

I could not imagine doing 400+ calls a year like some other brigades do, I too take my hat of to them.

No personal offence taken by me mund, I was just making a point that some people who may visit this forum, may be offended. I know the reputation that the northern suburbs has, I have to live with it everyday cause I live there. But I also know that those that cause the trouble are only a minority, and we as a community do not like those people in our area. We are not the only area to suffer this propblem, but because of demographics, it is more noticeable by the wider public, due to media attention.

Yes  24P but i could be wrong but you are from the northern suburbs??? It doesn't matter up there half the population are arsonists anyhow :-o

Mund, I do not think comments like that are appropriate on a public forum such as this. Fair enough if that is your view of people from the northern suburbs. However, it is an unsubstantiated, sterotypical comment that people like myself, who are from the Northern Suburbs and are well adjusted members of society, like MOST people in my area, may take offence to.
End rant.

Just to keep in line with the thread, my brigade is about even with our call rates for this time of year compared to previous years.

Incident Operations / Re: Hazmat Incident 10/05/07
« on: May 13, 2007, 12:48:29 PM »
Anyway a classic response from our brothers in blue here, not 1 hazmat brigade in that lot.
I thought all SAMFS fire fighters were Hazmat trained and all their GP Pumpers carry basic Hazmat stowage?

I think what 24P means is that it is CFS area, yet not one Cfs Hazmat brigade was included in the initial response. Even though it was responded as a Hazmat Incident.

Fire Stations and SES Units / Re: Biggest Station?
« on: May 13, 2007, 12:24:47 PM »
At the end of the day its not about how big or small our stations are, its about the quality of our service delivery to the community, and they dont care if its a red or white truckthat turns up.

Well said Sa Firey. I agree with your statement. As one of my collegues who lives in my brigades response area said one day, "as long as there is some one there to help save my house if I need them, I dont give a damn if it is red or white trucks, paid or vollunteer."

SA Firefighter General / Star or State Logo: Which do you prefer?
« on: May 09, 2007, 06:39:12 PM »
There are probably posts on this topic all ready. But I was talking to Dezza34P about this and was wondering what others prefered.

I prefer the Star as it has meaning, the State logo is just a corporate logo.

Why do you prefer the one you do.

back on the topic of the 34P,does anyone know what is the current status of Dalkeith's 34P is, anyone know when they will finally get this appliance?
Saw it today heading south on South Rd at Torrensville, so obviously still not in service?

It is going back to Vic for a few weeks.

Find out how far away the next appliance with a BA crew is then decide whether to commit my BA crew or wait till the next appliance is at least closer. Dont like the idea of a BA crew going into a structure unless there is backup there, or on its way, unless it is absolutely neccisary.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Cleanup at an MVA
« on: May 01, 2007, 12:01:58 AM »
this is a bit of that subject, but last night i was travelling along heaslip road, where a fatal car crash had occured, even though you could see the flashing lights. no agencies would advise cars of detours, the smart thing they couldve done was there was an intersection about 250 meters before the scene they shouldve been detouring people down this side road, this wouldve saved people having to drive down near the scene and then drop a u turn because they have found out that you cant get through, when i went through there was quite alot of congestion.

SAPOL were coordinating traffic control Sunday night. They decided were the roads were going to be blocked and were the vehicles were being detored. This was a prolonged incident for the crews and police in attendance.

I think it is a good call that we do wear seatbelts,as we have seen not only in this state but if we where to wear seatbelts then the risks to ones self is reduced.Having said that I know that its going to be hard to enforce this rule but lets look at this as a way of solving some problems. You still will have crews standing on the work deck chasing a grass or scrub fire but what the NEW COSO is saying that while you are not attacking or fighting the fire that you sit down and put the seatbelt on for your own safety. Is that asking to much of members??? I don't think so and from what has happended to one member of the service I think its a timely warning that we should all take better care of our own safety and that of our crews that we are entrusted to lead from the time we leave the station till the time we get back if ITS NOT ON PUT IT ON, and come home safe.

I agree, it only takes a second to put on a seatbelt and that could be the only thing that saves your life. We wear a seatbelt in our cars, or atleast better be, so why would travling to a job be any different.

SASES / Re: future of Adelaide Hills SES
« on: April 01, 2007, 11:15:40 AM »
Time someone up the ladder said enough is enough, why should SES/MFS/CFS go out and cut up a tree that is on someones driveway or is in someone's backyard. These are council jobs or for a tree company to do...More and more we see that emergency services are being used to do jobs that the public can do or get someone esle to do.. Why do they call us beacuse we dont charge so is it time we did charge or is it time we got smart and said contact XZY and they will take care of it......If the job is not life threatning then pass it back onto the council or a private firm, its the same when we see the SES do tow jobs on the beach is that really our(their) job.......

Quite some years ago, my dad rang up Northern Districts SES Unit and gave them a hundred dollars to cut down a tree in our front yard that was in danger of falling on the power lines and one very large limb was indanger of falling on our house. They used it as a training session for some members who needed to get some practice in.

Dalkeith don't actually have there 34p yet. I know from a friend that they are training on it at the moment, what with the monitor and Hydralic Pump. Dalkeith 34P will replace there 24P which is going to be refurbished.
