call me old fashioned.....but remember those things we used to have next to the canvas beaters and perculating hose in the shed..... what were they called again??... ahh thats right.... a BILLY. With the advent of modern technology you can even get them with a spout so u dont spill them everywhere. A little $20 gas stove thingy tucked away under the seat away from any danger and you have a brew whenever you want one.

We have this set up.....takes effing ages to boil, but at least Group can't whinge about the cost!....and we get a cuppa!

Unless everyone is trained in food prep, you don't.
No different to someone rocking up on site with a BBQ and cooking for the troops.

Red tape does make it difficult.

I don't know why but CFS have this fascination with staying on scene for investigators both Major Crash and Fire Cause, go home, so long as someone is looking after it. I spoke to a Major Crash guy once and he said he just can't understand why volunteers insist on staying on scene for hours on end, no need for it.

Me neither.  There is a survey out from the CFSVA in regards to "When is the emergency over" and eals with such issues and when vollies should leave the scene.  Unfortunately history and the good will of volunteers means some Brigades tend to hang around for much longer than necessary.  I suppose if they are happy to do it....

Thanks for the input people.

The trailer is intended for local catering.  Fairly certain the Salvos won't respond to a three or four Brigade job

We currently load the BBQ and other essentials onto our pump trailer and want a dedicated local catering trailer.

Please keep any suggestions coming and if anyone has photos (besides what's on the Promo unit website) please contact me.

Cheers.

As I understand it the National medal is awarded after 15 years diligent service, it concerns me that it then gets left to a couple of volunteers in a brigade to grant it.  Surely there is a way this can be flagged on TAS some how at least.

Diligent Service is flagged in TAS...well at least attendance at Incidents anyway.

Life Membership is not for Brigades...As Bill said it is for the Organisation.  Some Brigades do choose to create an honour board for those members who have obtained Life Membership of the organisation in their Station.

Any Brigades or Units out there have catering trailer, like a 6x4 or 5x7 they use for local/group incidents?
My Brigade is thinking of setting one up and any ideas are good ideas.

the black ones are the newer ones and are "meant" to be better than the yellow ones

Not sure about "better", but they are programmed with additional features.

We had a nasty job (RCR) on the Princes Highway near Meningie. Bill was travelling along the Dukes highway and heard the radios messages....he diverted his travels and detoured the extra 50km to attend the scene to assist.

15-11-10 11:08:10    CRML INFO: SPEED CAMERA MAIN ROAD CORO, IN BUS STOP BY BOTTOM OF ACKLANDS HILL ROAD - CFS Coromandel Valley Info

I thought we were meant to obey all road rules on the way to the station. If so then a page like this really isnt necessary......

Surely this would be a misue of resources (ie. the paging network). As mentioned above, if the road rules were being obeyed there would have been no need for a message like this.

I hope the person who sent out this message is counseled. By all means promote safe driving, but blatant attempts to avoid speed cameras are unwelcome.

Maybe it's a heads up for when they are responding....in the truck, to log a triggered flashy.

Big shout out for anyone who can program Samsung SFA-170 pagers, your help would be muchly appreciated. :-P
Damn you Apollo when there are plenty of perfectly good Samsungs still out there.

That is interesting, I just sent a Samsung off last week for re-programming (after it came back from repair with an address missing). I will let you know if they re-program the Samsung or replace it with an Apollo.

Would much rather use the Samsungs we have sitting in the cupboard doing nothing.  But the word from Region is they will only supply Apollo's.

Thanks Matt.  Would be very interested to know.
Waiting with anticipation :-D

It appears if any Brigades have new spare Samsung pagers in store that could be reprogrammed to take the pressure off the supply of Apollo's (and the fact no one wants a brick hanging from their hip) forget it.  They won't reprogram Samsung pagers, only issue new Apollo's.

Aaarrrggggghhhhhhhhh.

...and yes just because you send a report in does not mean it meets any criteria for a firecall hence why your numbers may be lower.

What criteria do you need to fulfill to make it a firecall?  Surely an appliance leaving the station to deal with an incident (regardless of what it is) would be considered a call?

Criteria is simple. A page from Adelaide Fire (regardless of what it is for) that is logged in CRIIMSON.

Andrew, it just really is not the first point of notification of a fire that it used to be 15-20 years ago. Im also guessing if there annual budget is $195 your not even going to get a uniform, let alone be able to run the AC while your up there.

I didn't think PPE and utilities were taken out of brigade budgets. Are they?

Yes.

From what was being said on ABC radio ADAM the whole BUND is coming down and will not be replaced......

Definently only a 100m breach, albeit we reckon the whole lot will be forced down once they put a small break in it!  ABC has aired wrong information the past week.  For now, only a small portion will be removed, not the entire bund.  Machinery arrived yesterday on site for works to start today or tomorrow.

And the bund between Lake Albert and Alexandrina is being partially open next week.  Personally, I hope when they start to dig the wall away the pressure from Lake Alex wil collapse the whole lot and fill Lake Albert.  What a joke the whole situation has been. Glorified Uni students called Poloticians have no idea.
PS: Nothing against Uni students - they actually are pro active to get things done.

What they said...

That pager message should have only gone to Group officers and staff and not every CFS pager...

Hence the subsequent message of "Thanks for all the phone calls, incorrect pager group selected, no further calls in required thanks".

I'm with Darren. If you don't know what the call signs mean, then the page probably wasn't meant for you.  Sometimes it's just best to do nothing.
