you arrive at a four story abandoned building in the 'burbs. There have been two homeless sleeping in there on the second floor. The fire has been deliberately lit on the first floor. One of the homeless guys gets out, but the other hasn't shown up yet. The homless guy that got out informs you of his missing friend. the fire has engulfed half of the first floor and part of the second floor. You have sent two teams of two into the structure to look for the guy. Standing outside, you hear a large cracking and then a thud. You receive no response from your team via radio. You send in another team of two to find out the problem. when team two reach the second floor, they see the hose line dangling from a huge hole that has opened up under your team. When they peer into the hole they see the four fireys lying on the first floor. two are not moving and one is yelling in pain clutching his leg. As the building is abandoned, there is no running water inside or electricity.

i know that we wouldn't normally do this, but i stole this off a real event that happened in NYC.

game on!

Nothing worse than getting dressed for a job and some idiot comes thundering through the back door and says "so what job is it" honestly it takes 5 whole seconds to read the pager.... Sorry pet hate people who don't read their pagers.

thats when you get those people to learn there lesson by sending a test response page out of the blue.

i agree with what someone else said. Use the star with the red and yellow checkers.  Then we have a good mix of tradition and future

SA Firefighter General / people taking photo's at jobs
« on: August 01, 2006, 09:40:42 AM »
i have noticed that quite a few people now take photos at jobs for their own interest/give to the promo unit etc. I was wondering what everybodies feelings were on here (i know there are a few snappers) about people taking photo's at jobs. Do you feel there is a purpose for a private camera on board? do you feel a set of hands are taken away because they are taking photo's?

Persoonally, I don't have a problem with it as long as its done after your help is needed. I would probably give it a go myself, but never remember a camera on the way out!

Well firey i have had this gut feeling for the last few months that were in for a ultra bad fire season in 2006-2007 due to all of the frosty nights SA has had which kills off the grass making it prone to drying out real quick come spring & summer

Dry winter + Real cold nights with frost= Potentially lethal 2006-2007 fire season

Plus the South East & Mount Lofty Ranges should have had a really big fire in 2003 when it was 20 years since AW2 1983 but it seems we have been lucky these last few years

But as the old saying goes dont count your chickens before they hatch

I for one hope we dont see Ash Wednesday III this fire season coming as a fire on that scale would be impossible to stop because of its speed and ferocity

all well and good robert, but don't wish it on us.
