Title: Trucks of the future
Post by: bittenyakka on March 24, 2007, 08:57:39 PM
I'm just wondering what people would like to see the appliances that we get in the future be made to do.

Do we want trucks that are made to do every thing and end up not being good at any 1 specific thing?

or do we want brigades to be issued with a rural and an urban pumper where the entire truck is made more specialized?

Personally I think the new 34 and the Mils tui 24p like Mt Pleasant seem to be on the right track.

How about an appliances that does not need to go back into the workshop all the time...... then look at what we need......

Maybe the future is an appliance that is fully manned by robots. No risk to human life from fighting the fire and no human error on the fireground to follow up in a lengthy and expensive inquest...

I'd say the answer lies in the requirement of that community. If you need to be a Jill-of-all-trades, then you need an appliance to support that. If there is a high level of road crash, then you need a rescue vehicle to support that?

I just had a thought What if we removed the crew decks from all appliances and made it so you either fought the fire on foot or where in the cab?

well then running grass fires might be harder to contain.

Pumpers do a good job for structure fires and MVA's, so i guess having no crew deck for them makes sense...on the other hand crew decks are a must for rural applicances.

maybe further look into remote controled monitors, like the one on an appliance over on the eyre peninsula....they could be controled from inside the crew cab :D

Crew decks may not be used much in the hills but out in the sticks they are used alot.

Remember the state doesnt finish at Mt Barker!

So now your going to discriminate against humans getting into the fire service? (or just female robots?)

You say that like I was discriminating previously? Being genderless and rational robots, their employment would not enact any equal opportunity legislation - not withstanding the employee obligations set out in the Cyborg Employment Act 2047.
