I have to say that we can fit a fair amount of gear on our type 2. I mean one side is basically firefighting, "BA hoses confined space, chocks" And the other side has all rescue gear stowed.

I understand about not getting the truck tied up at a job. I surpose you do as good as you  can with the resources available, and deal with the job in hand?

Is there not ruling that determines the time that you can use your siren? I thought i was ready something that said 08:00 to 20:00 or something? Our siren is on a timer which sets it to times near this.
It is controlled basically by the station controller, e.g CFSRES or URGMSG yuo can change it to suit and the same goes for door locks and so-on.

One per captain and one per truck is the standard however, you will find that some urban areas or multi agency eg a lot of MFS/CFS responses will have two GRN portables per truck. I am aware some brigades in the Para group and some others all have 2.

We have all the handles removed on our 25mm rubber, and also on our akrons. It is better ergonomics and easier to do Compartment tricks with. I think they reccommend that you remove the handles?

SACAD will have three dispatch centres, one for SAPOL, SAAS and CFS/MFS/SES. All the centres will be staffed by people that are not binded to a SPECIFIC agency for the CFS/MFS/SES dispatch centre. They will be employed purely as SACAD employess and this will keep it on neutral ground to achieve the fastest needed resources. I am pretty sure that each agency will have an advisor to act on certain disptach types.

WICEN is the primary means for communication for all services if a HUGE disaster or communication breakdown occurs. WICEN has equipment permenantly in Adelaide in case it needs to be used. WICEN also has many members that have quite high RF technical skills, but also have a huge statewide coverage  of their own.

CB on the other hand is great in our appliances, it is up to the brigade if there is a need for one.
Talk to buses, cars, truckies whatever on the highway going to prangs.... Also talking to farmer units during grass fires???

Compartment Fire Behaviour / Re: Supress Urban Fire

Hi All,

I have a feeling that Brett went to region 5 as training or something? In the volunteer i think.

I have just done compartment, and it is a great course gives you more knowledge, but you need to practice the skills and knowledge to be semi-proficient. Do it weekly and you might be.....

All the instructors were great guys, great knowledge and people skills so don't worry about it..

I have a feeling that they are working on a follow on course for compartment which is tactical venting.

For some info that don't know, the ALERTS system runs a tiered dialing system. Where you can enter different numbers after so many rings. So Robert you can have your home phone for three sets of tiers, then  it could ring you mobile straight away. Saves diverts and crap..

ALL Rescue / Re: Vehicle Setup

As you said the TYPE 2 needs to be customised to the Brigades own feel. The passenger side is completely taken up by BA hoses.... Spinal boards rakes and the assorted slide behind the cab in a locker, just. It certainly has more room than a standard 24P. I see the more gear the better but there is a limit in using your skills with the equipment you have got i think.
Thats my opinion

Yes Andrew you are right about Nuri. We have the gear and are trained but not recognised at the moment.. We are currently getting all new replacement gear as the old stuff is near its lifespan. It gets used now and then mainly for training.
Just another training course to do and maintain......

Yes did tape the Indian Fire video.... Quite a sight see-er! I showed it to the guys after training one night and they were shocked. Such underresource but they most certainly cope well.

We should all take a close look at this and see how lucky we are.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Ammusing pager message.
« on: March 28, 2006, 02:46:00 PM »
Hi All,

I would just like to say that the SA online pager site hit 20,388 hits today. This is over a course of 3 months. I can see that a fair amount of people are using the service, and i am guessing that the majority of people on this thread use it to get info?

I am looking at expanding the features offered by rehosting the CFS/SES/MFS filter file. Also uploading previous pager logs for about a month duration at a time?

What do people think? Any ideas?

Sorry the the downtime yesterday morning we lost the power here for 90 minutes... My UPS does not hang on this long unfortunately.

Gday,

I saw a pager message the other day saying we are not using the old cat 1 anymore. It is now called "STAR" or something... This would most likely explain it i think.

SAAS / Re: SAAS Station Codes
« on: March 23, 2006, 07:57:27 AM »
Hi All,

Just my thoughts and ideas...

81 Paramedic  0800 - 1800
84 Paramedic  0800 - 1800  Intensive care (some places)

181 Paramedic 1800 - 0800
188 Paramedic 1800 - 0800 We have paid oncall staff here, so it is not volley. If a volley crew is on call they will become just (town181...) Or if they are single crew it will be (town40)...
The numbers have nothing to do with the fleet (vehicle) that is used on the shift. It changes in some locations, especially the city regually. When you see the page go out to the district manager? of country crewing status the L4 means it is a single person, and full is obviously full crew. I have quite a few codes to add as well.
I hope this boring post entertained someone!

Hi There,

We have a type two. It is an excellent truck at this stage. It has some limits but they are beyond our reach at the moment. Some of the wiring can be a problem, we have had trouble with one of the locker sensors. When driving along the whole cab lights up like christmas time as the sensor thinks the locke is open.

It has a good amount of room to fit everything, rescue takes up basically all the drivers side, hoses BA and other confined space on the other.

Overall it is an excellent appliance.

We don and startup in FRESH AIR in Australia, also we have a DSU tag to give to the ECO when you startup, so what is the use of calculating how much time you have if you havenot even started up

I think our rules are smart and safe....
