And while I'm at it - why shouldn't the people of Pt Lincoln receive a brand new appliance for the protection of the substantial assets of their fair city??

Also the MFS aren't calling it a skyjet. Its a Telescopic Aerial Pumper of TAP for short.

TFB's have been declared today in the West Coast & North West Pastoral Districts but I haven't seen any publication of their rating ie. Severe, Extreme or Catastrophic per the new system.
I understood these new ratings would accompany any TFB to assist the public make an informed decision about either staying and defending or leaving early.

No its has never been MFS/CFS side by side.
It is a large parcel of vacant land that used to be netball courts that is boundered by three roads.
The CFS & SES are building a joint facility similiar to Clare with the Regional Office also on site facing Matthew Place, and the MFS are building their own facility facing St Andrews Terrace. The new facilites will back onto each other.

The UFU are in negotiations with MFS, SAFECOM & Govt at present and all going well it should be sorted out in the next few months. As to its content we will have to wait and see.

Yes the MFS retained firies are being brought into the fulltimers award and new EB being negotiated at present. There will be specific sections that relate purely to retained.
And yes in my opinion the UFU do have a reasonable idea what the retained crews do.

That is a strange concept. Whyalla MFS are set up so that they can cover the area if one appliance leaves the district. Also Port Augusta or Pirie sometimes do change of quarters to Whyalla. Would make more sense to form a Whyalla CFS for the district than move the Iron Knob brigade. Its not really up to councils nowadays anyway as they dont provide any funding towards the fire service.

You're right in saying the councils don't contribute funding. They are however are significant lobby group and stakeholder and their views are listened to.

It's obviously Iron Knob.
Something I've heard recently is the Whyalla City Council have been making noises about moving Iron Knob CFS into Whyalla to provide services outside the Whyalla City Limits. Their view is that the Whyalla City is left under protected when the MFS are attending incidents outside the City Limits.

Linc24p, I am wondering what you are basing your comments on when you refer to Port Lincoln MFS's so called false calls?

Also, most of the major regional MFS stations will be looked at in the near future for day crewing as per Mt Gambier but I would expect this will be done progressively over the next 3,4,5 to 10 years.

The reason Paringa wouldn't have been responded in the first instance to that particular call is that they don't have a pumper. The second arrival appliance at such a facilty usually goes straight to the booster which ideally you need atleast 500gpm if not 750gpm pump.
So they therefore responded the nearest pumper along with 4 g'teed BA crew.
Just on the Port Lincoln MFS responding to the tree fire. The Port Lincoln MFS were paged to the said tree fire however the call was passed onto CFS by the first arriving firefighter to the MFS station in under 5 minutes and the MFS did not respond appliances.
Sometime incidents given as Lincoln highway come through to Port Lincoln MFS. The Port Lincoln MFS were even paged to a car fire on the Lincoln highway which turned out to be 5km out of Port Augusta.
My point : scheiße Happens.
99.99% of the time there is no malice intended they are simple mistakes.

Believe it or not your comment may come to fruition. Apart from the MFS building new stations at Paradise, Beulah Park (Norwood)& Roxby Downs, my mail has it that MFS stations are going to be built at Mt Barker and Seaford also.

Yes, my mail has it that there truth to this rumour. It's is only a matter of the Commission in conjunction with BHP Billiton deciding whether the station will be retained or full-time.

From ABC News:

Firefighting boost announced for Mt Gambier
The South Australian Government has announced six full-time firefighters will be employed in Mount Gambier from next year.

A total of $460,000 will be spent on employing six firefighters to Mount Gambier, which is the state's busiest fire station outside of Adelaide.

Currently 25 part-time firefighters man the station's four appliances.

Many of these crew members are on-call during their normal working hours.

The Government says the shift to a full-time permanent day shift will ensure appropriate response times and boost the city's fire coverage.

Five of the positions are expected to be filled by existing firefighting ranks, with only the position of station manager to be filled from applicants further afield due to the expertise needed.

The funding will come from the state's Community Emergency Fund.
