Country Fire Service / Re: call signs

however, if an appliance is an RCR resource (a real one like aldinga's, not seaford's 24p for instance (no not slagging seaford so calm down...) then IMO it should be labelled either "pumprescue" if it has a fire fighting capability, or "rescue" if its a dedicated...

That would have to have been the first noni-ant seaford CFS thing i have read all day...Seaford no longer has a 24P, we have a pumper, how do you describe an appliance with rapid intervention, but not RCR??

I think if an officer doesn't know the capabilities of trucks from neighbouring brigades, they shouldn't be officer! as for working out of area, what would a rescue resource be doing out of its area?

As for my opinion on HAZMAT appliances, they should always be using the callsign HAZMAT for a HAZMAT incident, or their normal appliance call sign for non-HAZMAT job.

Call signs should be kept as simple as possible, and neighbouring brigades should know what who has... e.g. Seaford Pumper carries RCR gear, and Lighting... MV24P carries a reciprocating saw... Seaford Logistics Vehcle has a 5,000 L damm, MV 14 is CAFS, Aldinga Rescue is rescue only, no water...

All Equipment discussion / Re: 50mm hose
« on: March 18, 2007, 09:24:33 PM »
MFS use 50mm hose for most jobs, with modern ff techniques such as those taught in compartment fire behaviour, we are using less and less water to supress fires, for this reason i think it would be almost silly for CFS to adopt the 50mm hose size as standard stoweage.

with that last one, under the old Country fires act doesn't an officer have the authority to take control over any property... i would assume that the SAFECOM act would be the same...?? if this is so wouldnt they be able to order someone off the land??

As Mel stated, Seaford logistics car will be at Mawson base for the next 3 months while we are trialing the dennis, so currently we are a three truck station, (with only two operational), i had a look at almost everything on the truck 2day, and it all seems pretty easy to understand, hopefully it will be operational within about a week, it all just depends on how long it takes to get some nesecary gear!

But i dont think training the memembers will be an issue!

logistic cars are great... we have a twin cab ford courier.

it is great for if you need to do chages of crews at big jobs or replace BA cylinders. its also got a 5,000L damm and a quick fill pump that it tows on a trailer behind it.

As far as beach use, we use our regularly for assisting SAAS when casualtys injure themselves and are unable to walk of the beach, we just open up the rear of the tray and the spinal boar JUST pokes out the back.

Following recent events, I have had a 100% change in mindset on this dennis...

With the movement of MFS into the Seaford area, I now think we would be better off focusig our efforts on keeping A truck....i dont care which one,

I had exactly the same problem with a manager harrassing me about being in the cfs...i asked where he lived, not actualy adress, but suburb, and it turns out to be in our primary response area...so i told him the way it was and that if his house burnt down he would be very F*cking lucky to get a red truck there...

He hasn't said a word about cfs since,

Country Fire Service / Re: Needing more vollies
« on: January 28, 2007, 09:12:45 PM »
In My Opinion that wouldn't work because...

The vollies wouldn't regularly attend fires, so wouldn't be as experienced as some people in large brigades that attend 200+ calls per year, no amount of theory work, or training could even come close to actually getting out there on the back of a truck!!

What would work better would be to train them in IMT, and then get the capable current fireys out there insead of stuck back at staging etc.

JUST MY OPINION!

Now Jono...lets not get our hopes up, it is only a very unsubstantiated rumor...I will only believe it when we have the truck sitting in our station with the keys...it will probably end up being the same as the whole Happy Valley 24P idea, Non-Existent!!

This thread is to voice your opinions/ let of steam about the punishment of arsonists...

I say give them the needle...

It may sound a bit extreme, but IMO arson is worse than murder... murder is calculated, Arson it is completely random who dies/looses everything... and how much is lost...
