Title: SA SES Parade, Sat 17th Nov
Post by: bajdas on November 13, 2007, 02:18:47 PM
The SA State Emergency Service parade will be held down King William St on Saturday 17th November.

The parade of vehicles (last year approx 30 vehicles), people and others (dogs, bands, boats, etc) will start at 11:00am behind the MFS HQ and proceed down King William St from Victoria Square to Torrens Parade Ground.

A family BBQ for SES volunteers and the presentation of the 'Keith Lane Award' will be held after the parade. Government officials will be present.

The SA SES Volunteers Association AGM will be held at 14:00 at the Torrens Parade Ground.

The parade is an annual event and is organised by the SA SES Volunteers Association.

Any particular reason for it?

Any particular reason for it?

Multiple reasons - culmination of the national SES Week, celebration of SES volunteers, presentation of awards, catch up by volunteers with each other, media & government exposure, etc, etc.

there you go shows how much National SES Week has bee promoted in this state.
Thats alright though when I asked the local council if we could put on a display to a)celebrate SES week & b)to distribute how to prepare for storms & flash flooding stuff, they nice girl at the council didn't know that was part of our responsibility. In fact she didn't know we are the lead agency for stuff like that at all & we have to get a official permit! Sometimes I wish I had joined the guys in yellow instead, at least people know what they do :-D

Hmm, well didn't even know it was SES week and have been in two states this week.

Mind you, don't think being yellow mean that people know what we do:

A)We're paid
B)We only do bushfires
C)What do you mean you don't have a cherry picker?

I hate the public sometimes.

Many of us in the metro area are already members of both CFS & SES. It surprised me how many have or are in the process of completing the paperwork.

I am not surprised....this year nothing happened in the metro area except where local SES Units organised something themselves. A sign of changed times.....

Locally we will have the boat - should be beautiful on the river, nice shady trees & the truck has its own awnings. So the morning shouldn't be too bad & thanks for reminding me to get beer! So you guys don't have cherry pickers? Sadly due to my role I wouldn't have the time, plus we already play with 38s & 64s (from the boat)& since we ar co-located with group we already calling the trucks appliances & calling the shed an engine bay (just got to learn to call nozzles branches):-D. After what some of you guys have said not that much difference anyway. Anyway have a good one - cheers

Had a look at your pics, great shots. Just 1 question, if it was a SES parade, why were the MFS involved  :?

SES had invited some of the heirachy from MFS and the two appliances were at the end,but there were police horses in it as well :|

We are a caring and sharing service :-D. Who knows next year there might be some CFS appliances (luv the 34p's) Didn't forget the insurance letter from SAFECOM. Country crews wouldn't have gone because of the weather & crew size.
Our day was a success, even though it was hot. Generated a fair bit of community interest and support. Distributed info on severe weather (we had a storm latter :-D). Couldn't launch the boat but a bit short of crew
cheers

Bring back the old parade, with SAMFS, SACFS and SASES.

SAFECOM takes over the world..... yeh right !!!!
Lets leave some traditions alone.

The organisers have enough hassles co-ordinating from a potential group of 1870 volunteers. Add another approx 20,000 people who want to participate & you will 'traffic grid lock' the Adelaide CBD all day.....that would get the media involved though

I believe numbers was talking about the old days when the MFS, CFS and SES used to have a parade. (I don't know much about it, I've just seen the old black and white photos...)

Who won this years Keith Lane award?

Unit Manager of Western Adelaide (Peter) and Unit Manager of Kapunda (I think) were joint winners.

Four 'thankyou' awards given out as well.

All presentations done by the Governor of SA.

Correct, however the Kapunda Unit manager was instructing a RCR Course and was not present.R/O Warren Hicks accepted it on his behalf.Daisy from the Dog unit also won an award and there was another member from the dog unit also won an award.

Congrates to those guys, have to agree with Andrew.Reason is its part of National SES week, plus I just have a funny feeling we would be pushed to the background by a larger organisation who as an organisation barely acknowledges our existence. That is not a shot at the local guys, just your higher levels.
cheers

Exactly, nothing quite like seeing Ms. Mt. Lofty standing in the front of an old blitz.

Oh well....the organisers of the 'fire truck run' in April 2008 can be the first olive branch then & allow Rescue vehicles into the run...the first one I rode at SES Mitcham Unit in the 1980's was an ex fire truck & then the Unit bought a Bedford.

True True, we take the view that the community already pays thru ESL and being in one of the poorest regions in the state why should they pay more?
And its a lot easier to to divide $10.5 million between 68 units than $???? between 400 odd :-D
