We have one standpipe/key stored in the pull out tray on the rear (near side) of the appliance and a spare one in the offside rear storage locker.

I thought Hazmat was 28...

Brigades previously paged by MFS haven't seen a change of number ie Morphett Vale is still 8124, Happy Valley 8032, not 18124,18032.  From what I have seen on the pager site, all the new 5 digit numbers we are seeing simply refer to station number + call type.  However, I do see a pattern that all the rural region 1 station numbers seem to start with a 1, region 2 with a two etc   Example Sheaoak Log is 229 (Region 2), Yacka 496 (region 4), Naracoorte 562 (Region 5).  Burnside is still 29, not 129.  All means very little when these numbers cease to be used.

Pretty sure they are so high because of the turbos in them???

Type 2 Pumper has a turbo.  Not so high.

WFAM could mean "Wait for a Moment".  This is CFS, and we do a heck of a lot of that, especially at strike team responses :-D :-D

Not sure wether you realised that this was a test page:

1909187 11:21:40 18-06-07 FIRE ALARM TESTS FOR SPRINGBANK PLAZA BURTON TO FOLLOW, PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND

Page sent to Para group Officers and Salisbury brigade.  I know this doesn't answer you primary question - how would MFS be responded in this situation.  The page does not appear to have originated either from SHQ or MFS so I would assume that the alarm system initiates the page and it goes direct to CFS Pagers (and to MFS Comcen?).

Excuse my ignorance but what does *WFAM* mean?  I have not come across that one before.

Hypotheticals / Re: House Fire Persons Trapped
« on: May 11, 2007, 09:30:38 PM »
I guess this is where the experience, if any, of your OIC is paramount.  This person needs to be able to carry out a very rapid assessment of the situation, knowing that persons are trapped, or at least inside, and wether the risk is greater than the chance of a successful rescue.  Hard call at best of times.  As a Firey, I would still want right of refusal. Don't think OIC's would "force" you to enter premesis if you weren't comfortable with it.  I would hope most would be prepared to do what they could, within reason and reasonable risk, to save a life - isn't that part of why we joined the service??

This is purely a personal point of view, from someone who has never had to enter a burning biulding, yet!

Some may say, what is a reasonable risk? and that no risk can be considered reasonable.  Tell that to the frantic mother who's five year old is still inside.

Fire Stations and SES Units / Re: Biggest Station?
« on: May 11, 2007, 09:16:45 PM »
i like the naracoorte, happy valley, meningie style of station with the brick frontage

 :-D

May look nice, but not all that practical when it comes to modifications to suit the larger modern appliances.  Mega dollars, just to add a couple of feet on the front.  Almost as much as building an entire colourbond station.

Salisbury's may not be the prettiest, but I bet there's a shite load more room inside it.

I agree, though, the brick facade looks good, just wish there was more for-thought put into it.

Demolition saws use a Diamond tipped blade, suitable for cutting through steel and timber.  This type of "General Purpose" blade would be used on most if not all saws utilised by emergency services.  The type of blade required for cutting concrete is a Tungsten Carbide Tipped (TCT) blade. This type of blade is only suitable for cutting concrete and in most cases would require water cooling.  Using it on steel would render it useless in seconds.

Of course, hadn't thought that far south.  A pump in the Mundoo group would make sense with all the development down there.  At least they have got a BRT close though.

We could start a book... :-D

My money would be elsewhere, Seaford just got the Dennis (assuming you were referring to Seaford), so my guess would be another brigade with significant urban risk and high call out rate.  Salisbury comes to mind, or another brigade in their group.  Can't see Morphett Vale getting it, that would make three pumpers in the group, with none north of the city.  Now, if Burnside has changed their mind...

Thanks Comms, yep, that would be the one.

I second Camo, where DID you get that info??  Though your handle probably givees that away!

Still doesn't completely satisfy my curiosity, why would 8124 not be paged to that one, definately the nearest resource. Didn't think they were tied up elswhere.  Curiouser and Curiouser.

On the way to work last Wednesday afternoon, saw 421 heading South up Panaltinga Rd through Woodcroft/Reynella East priority 1.  When I got to work, checked paging resource, no pages to southern CFS brigades at all.  Anyone have any idea what they were responding to?

As I said, just curious.  Not suggesting any breach of boundaries, or job snatching or anything negative. :-D
