You dribble too much?

Now come on, keep it on Topic. If you want to trash every thread, do it in the off topic arena.

I vote with remove everyone EXCEPT the Communications Centre. They are the trained professionals. If any further info is needed, they have the responsibility of calling the local brigade / alerts number for further.

Im sure that will upset those that want TOTAL control over everything, but, TOUGH. Its all about quality and reliability of service, and I won't speak for the comms staff, but im sure you can't hear jack when somone answers their phone facing the wind or in their workshop etc..

Well then, no need to enforce your crankyness onto others unfairly.

This site wouldn't be a firefighting site without being able to take shots at people when they screw up.

Unfairly?  Personal attacks arent supported on this site and i viewed the post in question as a personal attack....have a problem? take it up with firefrog.

So going by this statement you wont be making any further remarks about Gambier group or your ex-brigade captain?

Back to the topic:

Interesting Fire & Emergency Related Paging . . .

SA Firefighter General / Re: Some US figures
« on: November 18, 2008, 12:50:55 PM »
Last year there was something like 96 LODD's nation wide. So that number is fairly accurate.

To be honest, 1 LODD per 15,000 FIRES, although horribe, is not a figure I wouldn't expect.

Its a dangerous job!

« on: November 18, 2008, 12:37:30 PM »
Hey... any idea how big the samfs monitors are? and do mfs pumpers have 6 discharge or only 4?

cheers

Mostly 2 in, single nozzle. (Specs vary on exact brand and capabilities of individual Monitor.)

Looking on the adelaide now website, i found a story on a RCR at williamstown last night. Its says they had to wait for specialised cutting equipment from loxton-150kms away. I realise it's in CFS territory but Gawler MFS which has a pump/rescue is only like 15 minutes away.Surely for a vehicle accident this bad, they can call on the best/nearest resource rather than waiting this long. Even still, the heavy rescue truck at headquarters is closer, only about 50km/s away.

Bit like all the HAZMAT stories they have NO idea about!!

C'mon mate, thought you would be acustom to this / know better about the media.. ;)

The hypothetical section contains alot of valid and decent information, if this thread doesn't stay on topic, and at least be slightly helpful, it will be locked.

As Mike said, Hazmat206,What is it that you want people to discuss about this thread? ... - How the services would cope? If the applicances allocated are correct? Where would COQ go?..

If this thread doesn't get any better, it will go.

Im sure FM was pointing out it was an ammusing message, and that emergency services respond to a vast number of incident types..

SA Firefighter General / Re: Interesting Fire and Emergency Related Paging

well.....i guess they only have themselves to blame if the response was incorrect.

Maybe they had booked offline for the duration of their training - so they handed their response roles to CFS for that particular time - most CFS Brigades do that at some stage if u have a specific drill underway.

No big deal really - or are u suggesting it is???

how could they only have themselves to blame? seems like a quote without much to back it up. MFS train weekly, so dont tend to book themselves off because of a special event, e.g. training...

if you check out: MFS: *CFSRES INC080 10/11/08 21:52,RESPOND RUBBISH FIRE,DRIDAN AV,RENMARK MAP 0 0 0 TG193,LADY THROWING PETROL ON FIRE. CLOSE TO H,OUSE AND TREES. FROM LOCAL POLICE,SAIR55 REN618 MFS Renmark Response

reckon you will notice that they didnt book off for training.

I think the 'have themselves to blame', refers to the fact that MFS would have dispatched them, so you would think they would get it right?.. (Not suggesting it wasn't right, one can only assume there was a reason the response was different to the norm)..

SA Firefighter General / Re: firefighter fitness
« on: November 10, 2008, 02:40:55 PM »
I wish some people would remember THIS IS AUSTRALIA and not the USA and let's remember  those guys in the US forest service who do dry firefighting or any other sort of firefighting get paid as they are full time summer firefighters...

Heart Disease, cardiac episodes, cholesterol levels and every other medical problem associated with severe exertion and lack of fitness, are the same the world over.. US or AUS, Paid or Vol..

Just because your a Volunteer, doesn't mean people should 'pee' their fitness levels out the window because they 'don't get paid'.. - A certain level of fitness should be kept, the minute you take the *RESPONSIBILITY* of being a Firefighter.. - Paid or Vollie..!
