SA Firefighter General / Re: Task Force Complaints
« on: January 18, 2007, 07:42:47 PM »
We did call up, we did ask for food, and to be relieved, and everytime we called, we got told it was on its way, be there soon. 10 hrs of this is not fun. i know that the IMT team has a hard job, and i dont blame the people in the IMT at all i believe its the IMT plan it self. It seems to unsuitable for large distance jobs like Ngarkat where we had a fire perimeter of 300kms.

No one really knows when the house caught alight. According to a source who was there, the house was well involved when they got to it,that was after doing work on putting out the grassy. They also had visit by the CO and a heap of RO's who where in willunga for a meeting.

Emergency Vehicles / Re: Tatiara CFS Log Skiddah

Ive seen it in action and with the tatiara 34 working with it they are a mean combination. No fire stands a chance. There should be more like it, especially in high/dense vegetation areas.

I heard about mt bold on the abc news at 1900, by 2030 region 4 had rung our duty phone to see if anyone might be able to go. For them to be asking guys 600kms away if there avalible for a taskforce 2.5hrs after the fire had started makes me think that the first 10-20 appliances on scene would have had some serious firefighting and asset protection to do. from all reports you guys did a filtered fantastic job. Top stuff.

Industrial & Private Fire Services / Re: Farm/private units
« on: January 18, 2007, 03:46:40 AM »
From my experience while working at national sparks , farm units tend to just attach themselves to the trucks working in there area or sector, most are very handy as the local knowledge is good to have re. water/wind/tracks etc, but some wont give you the time of day and get quite annoyed when you come on to there property to try and help them.

Go on a Task force to Ngarkat in the murry mallee, you havnt been on a bad taskforce till you go to one there. We got stuck on the fire ground for 28hours plus the 3.5 hr drive up there. No food or water for the whole time, water for the unit was a two hr return trip and the staging area was 70kms away. Fun, not.

Country Fire Service / Re: Mt Barker 24P
« on: January 17, 2007, 10:12:45 PM »
It seems to me, that what Mt Barker want they get, there are brigades around that would love to have a 24p to back up there 24p, they seem to forget they have rural risks as well, wanting to many pumpers could mean those trucks may turn red someday.

WES went as ambo, woomera defaulted, stirling nth is closer than roxby as it was 70kms sth of woomera so stirling nth got the job, dont know if they made it there or not. you would be far from happy if you got 5kms away and got a stop.

Its older than half the appliances getting taken out of service now, it certainly hasnt had reliable history, save the pump, scrap the rest.
