As was said things are different outside of metro areas.

I know this topic has now been thrashed out by everyone, but have to make a comment that this is common even in the so called "metro" area.

MalleeFire - every appliance [or one per brigade??] is meant to have a CFS supplied mobile. Not personal issue like SES.

Why not just use self-hosted dial in teleconferences.

Already widely used in CFS.

Alex they are not used as widely as one thinks or maybe some places are a bit more reluctant to get a board

Maybe i'm more out of touch than i thought, but from my experience, all regions were using dial-in teleconferences regularly. This is surely the best way to have these meetings. Participants simply dial-in from home or go down to the firestation to avoid the phone bill.

They should not use Lights & Sirens

Isn't is illegal to have beacons and siren on a private vehicle anyway.

MFS seem to only be capable of paper ones.

Not true at all Uniden, all mine are electronic [were with CFS also], just ring payroll and ask them to change you over.

Im sure most people have had a 2nd hand helmet...

But eventually you would think it may get replaced, when you consider the OH/S issues involved in hygene and knowing the history of the helmet [ie; drops/impacts/etc]

gotta love the name, but "bridge to nowhere" crosses the Pt Pirie creek up at Pirie itself.

bunker coat and pants [level 1 & PBI [inc flashhood/structure gloves] if BA operator]
gloves
goggles
helmet
boots [type depends on the group really...]
smoke masks

I would expect all this gear to be supplied to any members upon joining, obviously PBI would take a while due to needing BA accred.

I'll run down the shop... get some red cordial and jelly beans.

SAPol sometimes request SES specifically dependant on incident type.

Traffic control, lighting, searches, crime scene preservation are usually a request for SES specifically...

The new SAPOL HQ building must be near the rear of MFS HQ.

Certainly is... directly behind, so no more sweeping view of the hills  :|

No doubt about the fact the firie/ambo shift system kicks the crap out of police shift system mate.

Young plod up Blackwood way swung over too METS, then back too plod again!

..Strange

I agree! I can't get my head around that. The lad must have rocks in his head (no offence to whoever he is). (Morph)

Quite a drop in workload.. siome people wouldn't like to twiddle there thumbs all day.

I've heard that as a possible reason why somebody like our mate above got in and then did a u-bolt but I think if you are the kind who keeps active and doesn't let the grass grow under their feet, it shouldn't be a problem.
I always find something useful to do with any spare time I can grab (which is a rarity). There are ALWAYS little jobs that need to be done or, if you're lucky, that book you've been meaning to read but never got round to, on-line course to study, musical instrument or language to learn etc etc etc.
If a person gets bored I reckon it's because they allow themselves to switch off! There's a whole world out there and 'life's short,' as they say.

Not really as simple as you make it sound mate. Hopefully you can make it work that way for yourself when/if you suceed in an application.

Your right, they can be used for asset protection, but are not a part of pre-determined response for that area.

Probably because its a fire in CFS area in a gully, not really a job that an MFS pumper spec is capable of tackling.

Country Fire Service / Re: Training frequency
« on: March 13, 2009, 07:48:48 PM »
we turn out to less than 10 incidents a year and train once on a sunay before the fire season..This is what we do and region know this and don say "you need to do more" so i guess its enough.

I'm assuming this is probly you baiting the guys here anyway.... but...

Considering the above statement, do you actually feel that you could competently respond to any incident that may arise in your area? Or is the community at risk due to poorly trained firefighters?

[I think i already know the answer to this and don't really expect an un-biased answer]

Mmmm.... but how is a 20L Sulphuric Acid spill a "HAZMAT Reduced"?

Tank Valve for Short....

Wouldnt it be worth calling it by its full name to avoid confusion with pump to tank?
