What a joke in 2009 we can't alert people properly, never had this issue when it was brigade run, we always had enough pagers.....bring back the siren!!

Ahhh yes bring back the good ol fire phone system with a button linked to the station siren it worked everytime we needed crew

and canvas beaters, and petrol powered pumps and officers BA (aka holding your breath till the poisonous smoke isnt too bad and only burns your eyes) and asbestos fire suits and rubber hose and hatchets on our belts....

Lets not forget we moved away from those things for a reason....the reason hasnt changed....just allow the system we moved to enough resources to work is all that is needed.

If you guys are seriously sharing pagers for operational crews....why isnt it in the paper and on the radio every day until its fixed? It's the squeaky wheel that gets oiled....suffer in silence and thats exactly what you'll get in reply .....silence

To many Group Officers trying to put there own spin on it, for Example our GO is telling us we will be removed from the rural fireground if we have a structural helmet on, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT !!! Tell me where it says we can't wear it, you have NOT got a leg to stand on.

hehehe....maybe u should be in a group that only buys structural helmets

"In theory" it allows for a minimum crew. There are still times when they are very, very light on.
so that would be a minimum of 4 crew would it?....the same as the jaffa coloured pumpers?......and light on means they cant provide MORE than 4?

so light on for crew = not being able to provide MORE than them what some want to replace them with?....interesting logic that

From what i heard, Mt Barker themselves did a fine job of crewing,  it was the support responders from 2nd and 3rd alarm brigade's that had crewing issues...The brigades NOT in the large country centres.

Mt Barker, Good job on Crewing.

If it was paid service, the only thing you will improve, is having a single appliance ready on standby all the time...or in Mt Gambier's example, day time only.

So, to the support brigades, keep getting members trained in BA...and more of them,  reach your SFEC maximum.

Zippy.....thats the most sensible post i have seen on this site in ages......great perspective.....paid mfs in Barker = 4 firefighters and one truck....a reduction in service.....

now be a good boy and enough of the sensible posts....you'll get a bad name

maybe we should look at how many people we have lost as instructors over the last few years and ask why that is......its not workload....

you would think that the CFS Centre for Lessons Learned would be similarly available...nice and concise catalogue, freely accessible by all on the Net and full of information.....apparantly not. More locked down than Paris's Phone Number....

or maybe it's just that nothing has been learned in the last 4 years  :?

If we didn't pay the ESL, we wouldn't have trucks or trinkets....

awww c'mon....its no so hard to do the math

15,000 operation firefighters in the CFS (cough...yes i know, no need to say it), if you assume 20% are over 10 years service (again.....cough, cough)....then 3000 would be due an ESL exemption. if the average ESL is around the $100 mark.....then thats $300,000 in a multi million $$$ levied Fund. Or.....around the same as one 34 type appliance. Now volunteer retention will have a budget....so offset that against it....and we're talking a pittance of $$ for a real impact....imagine THAT as a media release Euan....hell you could save that amount by getting rid  of...i mean combining .... a Region (1) or two....
