And chatting to members of the same group, who were listening to the radio conversation, the two fatalities turned out not to be dead!!

There has been some research done, which indicates that bushfire smoke is dangerous to your health as well, due to the various combustion products.

If both MFS & CFS members followed their respective SOP's, then MFS firefighters should have less exposure to smoke than CFS, as they should be wearing BA to the bulk of their jobs, while CFS members, who might only attend the occasional structure / car fire, but several bushfires, are not wearing respiratory protection, the bulk of the time, and hence have large exposure to smoke......

So are CFS Volunteers not facing the same risks as paid firefighters?

28-06-13 13:07:25 ANY CREW INERESTED IN CONDUCTING A BURNOFF COULD THEY BE AT THE STATION AT 1:15 REGARDS CADELL CAPTAIN - CFS Cadell Response

Good to see a bit of notice.

I don't think a lot of the crew would have anywhere else to be.....

Pip

Haha pip..not down sunning themselves on the river you don't think?

I'd suggest the bulk of them would have been working, or finished work for the day (I think they still have the dairy at Cadell) - but evening time, you shouldn't see them down at the local for a quick pint!!!

Proposed changes to SFEC's are being presented to Groups in the coming weeks (East Torrens is coming up on 21st March).

There is an opportunity for groups to see the proposed changes, and have a chance to give feedback on them.

Fire Fighter Training / Re: Training Night Ideas
« on: February 17, 2013, 08:05:13 AM »
Sounds like a fun exercise.

We did something sort of along those lines, with water soccer.

Put traffic cones around in a circle, and two appliances parked next to each other on the edge of the circle.  With 2 x crews of at least 3, and up to as many as you like, they have to weave the soccer ball in and out of the cones, all the way around the circle, using the hose.

Using lay flat hose, part way around, you need to add a length.  Another added rule is that only the branch operator and the back up are allowed inside the circle, and only the first part of the hose is allowed inside the circle - the rest must remain outside the circle, along with the rest of the crew.

Both crews start from the same location, and go in opposite directions.  The first team back, who doesn't break the rules, wins!!

Water soccer is a great exercise on hot training nights!!

Other uniformed agencies don't generally have gyms on site, are not allocated any work time to dedicate to fitness, but fitness is a required part of the job!!

And they work 24/7 every day of the year too!!!

I certainly don't begrudge decent facilities for workers, but their seems to be quite a disparity between the various services......

SASES / Re: SA SES Recruitment advert

Showing crews responding to a serious road crash may frighten some prospective new recruits away.... for some people, the thought of going to a nasty crash frightens them... but if they start off with simpler , and not so scary tasks, they can build up to going to a road crash...

Simple - a corrupted message, which occurs when the message isn't received properly by the decoder..... things like weather conditions affect the decoding....

SA Firefighter General / SACAD programming

Bagy, if only that was true!

My Group has submitted some updated SACAD data five times, only to have the "confirmation" come back as the original data!

We have been through the correct processes, and it is still not correct - not because we have the submitted the wrong data, but because somewhere in the system, it isn't been put onto SACAD!

The info is stuff between brigades within our own Group, where we all agree with the updates!!

Country Fire Service / Re: Interstate deployments January 2012
« on: January 09, 2013, 06:05:17 AM »
Initial pager messages put the deployment as 12 hr shifts - and that was for Groups close to the border.

As brigades further away are being requested, the pager messages indicated the deployment was for 2 days.

And of course, must remember, if it is on the pager, it must be true!!!

Are we talking about deployments in 2013    :-o

Dooohhhh  (face palm)  :|

Sorry, couldn't resist  !!

Anyway, back to the topic...

With the amount of fire activity in Tassie, and the Eastern states, and if it is ongoing, it could be expected to have SA resources called upon to assist.

And unlike normal intrastate strike teams, there will be a long queue of people with their hands up to go interstate.

If it is like other interstate strike teams, many people take time off from work to go (which they wouldn't do for intrastate strike teams)

I suppose we will sit back & see what develops!
