My brigade are trailing VACS  vacs.net.au from WiPath this season. VACS does have dial in numbers which suit a) non smartphone users and b) rapid update e.g. Responding.

If you comment on peoples maths then expect comment on your English.

There as in here and there refers to places
Their as in his, yours, theirs refers to ownership.

I agree that we (CFS) seem to spend too much effort re-inventing the wheel. But when we have people saying that they do not need the crew deck in their area I wonder if they have caught the vision of a statewide (at least) fire service. I am sure that I saw Cherry Gardens on the side of an appliance at One Tree Hill on Saturday and if there had been a flare up they would have been keen to have a crew deck for the running grass fire. The alternative to a crew deck is a remote controlled monitor like the CFA prototype, but I suspect that they are expensive and not as responsive as a branck in an operators hands.

+1 for Simple language. It actually makes more sense (so it won't happen) for the MFS to cease using K codes for voice communications and stick to plain English words like "mobile" "arrived" "upgrade to" "stop" etc. If you want to send codes then get data terminals and push the buttons. If they don't work/won't be provided then plain English makes for less confusion and decoding.

YP is part of R2. Landcruisers have a considerable towing capability. Empty sandbags in compressed bundles take up little space (but are heavy). Some actions are preemptive after a significant usage is noted.

How many options are there for SMS messages to backup GRN Paging??

Having personally designed and built radio paging systems I do know exactly how radio paging systems work. There can be a number of opinions but that doesn't stop some being wrong. 2 way paging systems do exist and one variant developed to become Blackberries that later added voice communications and now are sold as smartphones but the GRN paging and radio paging that existed before that is only one way - transmitter tower to receiving pager.

Pagers do NOT transmit any data. They are radio devices and do have some background radio frequency radiation that could possibly interfere with another device that is close enough but we are talking about distances of up to half a metre, not sending info back to a tower.

I am interested in how you determined the units in attendance - personal involvement, off air decoding, GRN analysis or something else. It could be useful if there is a simple method of coming by this info.

I did not hear the conversation but in a hypothetical situation that ends in the coroners court , if the question is asked of an individual - "Did you believe that there were closer, more appropriate units available?" and the answer is given - "yes" the subsequent question would surely be " What did you do to improve the situation?" . What would the coroner consider the best answer - " I decided to shut up and log my grievance later" or "I made sure the Incident controller was aware of the options I knew about" ?
