CFS Cadet Corner / Re: Royal Adelaide Show 2007

I would say contact your brigade/group cadet officer/leader and ask them to chase up with the region,I cant see a problem and it sure would help those young members who are looking at joining a community service.

A brigade or group can apply to have its SFEC changed in consultation with the region and SHQ.

I think this would work well and if city people are willing to give up there time do the training and want to help the CFS at large rural jobs then lets give it ago.It may not work for urban brigade's but what if some of these urban brigade's open there books to new members who live 10 Min's away who are willing to help and do the training. These members could become station volunteers who Mann the station on a roster system so as to provide a 24 hr service to the community.Sure we would have to have accommodation at some stations, but what about day time crews that could be on a roster that suites them.may sound silly but it could work if some brigade's where willing to try it and open there membership books. I am well aware of urban brigade's  who have closed their books but their brigade still struggle or can't get out the door during the day.

I did hear that brigades that did less than 30 calls per year would get a refurb appliance, but as you cane see this is not being done, may be CFS don't have enough second hand appliances to go around.Or when they do send a appliances for refitting its full of RUST

At a meeting that the VFBA had here not so long ago and Euan was here he was talking about having a reserve list of city people or those that lived in MFS area who wanted to help CFS.These people would be like the army reserve and would do the training but be located in Adelaide and would come out to large jobs and help...Sounds good idea to me what you all think?

As an OIC,you also have to be a team player and not one that loves to belt out the orders, remember a good OIC is only as good as the men/women that have respect for him/her. Just because you have a yellow or red hat does not mean you sit back and watch your crew work, get in and help....

Well get more drivers trained up and let the officer sit in the passanger seat where they belong, but if you cant do that well let OIC drive and pass on instructions...

There needs to be in place where upcoming officers are given the chance to run a job and learn from the older officers who have the years and skills.a mentor system works well you can do as many courses as you like but that does not give you the skills to be a OIC or to take charge of a crew. You learn to be a officer by learning from those who have been there. but you also learn from your own mistakes....

Allan, there are a number of ways that this can be done CFA rescue brigade's have been using a plaster cutter for a number of years works well for them Look get in contact with corey at STC and ask about the DVD that was mailed out to all RCR brigade upskills officers if you did not get it mate... Its worth a look at and covers new car technology.

Just came back from a trip to victoria and was talking to both paid and volunteers and they all agree the rear mount pump and one HP line is the way to go.Makes life at easy but also with flake hose you would be surprised at how fast they can get the hose out.
