SA Firefighter General / Re: SAAS Responding Other Services..

Not my area Darius

Cheers Jaff

then who honestly cares... not having a go directly at you Jaff (or at least not meaning to be rude) but this sort of thing seems to be a huge problem on this forum... people comment & whinge about things that dont affect them in the slightest.

perhaps;

dismantle the machine so you just have a kid in a drum, then recipro down the sides if theres enough clearance from the casualty? along with hand tools to spread?

if you read the papers, theres a number of other issues that the UFU, CFSVA (or whatever there called now) and SASESVA are working on together, including the change of speed limit past stationary emergency services...

i guess they need to try to keep some cooperation happening, rather than going down each others throats completely at the moment...

ALL Rescue / Re: RCR Ages
« on: February 03, 2008, 04:04:01 PM »
I think the answer is simple dont you have to be 18 to do the RCR course??? if so the 18 would be a good starting point......

18 to do RCR, 18 to do BA (and thererfore HAZMAT), should be 18 to become a firefighter and responder full stop.

Can anyone explain the time discrepancy for an incident that occurred this morning, ambos responded to car rollover on the Strathalbyn-Meadows  road at0225hrs. CFS and SES were responded to inc no 7 at 0259hrs car rollover Strathalbyn-Meadows road 4kms towards Meadows ,I assume the same incident.
That unless my maths is incorrect is a delay of response time of 34mins.
Question do SAPOL or SAAS carry dry powder fire extinguishers for perhaps using in the unfortunate event of an entrapment with a fire starting and no fire cover on scene.
Question do SAPOL or SAAS as a procedure at an accident scene check that the car involved ignition is turned off and in gear and handbrake applied.

Cheers Jaff

up to the brigade effected by the incident to lodge a greivance form...

SAAS / Re: Rank in SAAS
« on: February 01, 2008, 07:13:46 AM »
surely the positions; ambulance officer, paramedic, ICP , then TLs could be refered to as a form of rank? as they are accredited to differant levels?

just curious... ive never really thought about it before.

SASES / Re: Edinburgh SES ??
« on: February 01, 2008, 07:01:51 AM »
personally i think thats a good idea, and although its "just a name" it would probably assist other agencies in having a better idea of resources attending an incident and where they are coming from.

for example, Sturt SES... there is a suburb called sturt, however the unit is actually based in coromandel valley, about 7kms away (yes i know they have an appliance at Sturt SAPOL however this is not where there unit is "based")

SA Firefighter General / Re: Interesting Fire and Emergency Related Paging
« on: February 01, 2008, 05:40:01 AM »
the computer shows best response for the area so there could be a fault with the information and possible operator interference

the computer shows the reccomended, or preset, response... then any additional resources have to be entered in.

63
aahh i must just be thinking of the furthest west fire resources we have in SA, Eucla are not CFS, as you said Pip.

64
far west thirty-four eh?

Incidents / Re: Scooter Retrieval - Troubridge Lighthouse

What a waste of time should have just left the filtered thing down there

assisting SAPOL by retrieving evidence for an investigation is a waste of time?

i know that a new hardware store has been "off lined" due to 6 or 8 no carrier alarms over the course of a weekend.
Hopefully there is a secondary alarm system that they are falling back on during this time??

a no carrier means the alarm system is offline.... no connection to the service provider (MFS??) and therefore no information from the premises to the fire service.... fall back would be 000.

considering they were responded priority 2 and over 12 hrs after the initial....

im guessing the "specialist equipment" wasnt really gonna make much differance to the overall outcome.

an interesting read none the less....

Easy solution...Dump Dirt all over the Truck....and build a new road around the new dirt mound ;)

Yes but why would you risk your own safety by getting close enough to do that??

nah rig up something for the skycrane

07:22:01 27-01-08 NO CARRIER ALARM, NO CARRIER, BIG W, 5 EL ELAMEIN ROAD, PORT AUGUSTA MFS Pt Augusta
07:21:56 27-01-08 NO CARRIER ALARM, NO CARRIER, HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION STACK, HOSPITAL RD, PORT AUGUSTA MFS Pt Augusta
07:21:52 27-01-08 NO CARRIER ALARM, NO CARRIER, TELSTRA MICROWAVE STATION, 111 TASSIE ST, PORT AUGUSTA MFS Pt Augusta

Where these just testings? or did the Port Augusta crew have four separate calls within 13 seconds?

on surface value, there all "no carrier" alarms... perhaps someone cut the line that connects them.

SA Firefighter General / Re: New BOMS response format
« on: January 26, 2008, 09:40:17 AM »
Country SAAS get a Grid reference - instead of Map 0,0,0.

i thought we'd been over that... they only ever get a UBD referance or a rapid number.... and when the rapid number is available to CFS/SES/MFS its usually on the page... Id love to here otherwise though, as it would be great for there service.

Care factor? not very high :-D I still stand by my original comment which was" I agree with Zippy".
Cheers

No problems.

btw, from everything ive heard having the message start with "MFS: MFS" is just a minor computer issue, not the correct format for the messages.

lets all have a geography lesson ;)

looks fine as a response to me... heaps of brigades go to vehicle fires by themselves every day... besides didnt CFS agree that adelaide fire would respond the first resource, then it was up to locals to request more?
