SAAS / Re: More on Private Providers

Rumour is St Johns are moving away from the higher risk events due to whole of organisation risk. Could just be rumour (happy for SJA to correct that statement if not correct).

St John are not 'moving' away from higher risk events per se... They are seeking to work with the various regulatory sporting competition bodies of the higher risk events that are covered to ensure that the event medical service provided meets the minimum requirements of the regulatory body. Examples of such bodies include CAMS, MASA, NASR and ANDRA...

The organisation is keen to ensure that a sound match is achieved between what a regulatory body requires, its own clinical skillsets and capabilities and the expectations and requirements of the end user - competitors / patrons etc.

St John certainly seeks event organiser risk assessments to utilise as part of determining event acceptance and coverage. Whilst it is still in somewhat of an immature stage, the use of risk management methodologies regarding events is evolving internally and is maturing across the organisation.

With a more robust risk management framework around its event work, it then seeks to create opportunities for the organisation...

I am aware that there will always be sceptics and critics but change has to start with the smallest step and I am confident that the last 18 months - 2 years has seen some positive change...

As for the Gillman event medical provider, along with any other private provider - I suggest that people explore what Professional Indemnity and public liability insurances are held along with the integrity of the providers equipment, clinical governance framework and pharmacological scheduling / licensing and management... (just to list a few considerations)... St John recently (4 - 6 months ago) published an internal memo regarding private providers to its membership regarding its existing members whom might wish to work for them... It wasn't creating a negative slant but rather attempting to assist members to make an informed choice / decision...

Cheers
Shane

Surely the event should / would have its own 'clean up' crew..??? This should be done by an "Advance" or "Scout" car with a broom and shovel in the boot or maybe a petrol driven blower..???

If its in relation to this - http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/nails-found-near-mt-pleasant-an-hour-before-tdu-event/story-e6frea83-1226249261012 then maybe I stand somewhat corrected and could understand the need..!?!?!?

quick question,  what model of pager will St John be using.  SES are now halfway through migrating to the Alpha Elite pagers from the original Samsung units as they are becoming very unreliable due to age.

Your programming software and instructions will depend on model you are using.   I am in the process of hardware converting a programmer to a self contained USB interface as the new laptops do not have a RS232 ports plus I want to get away from a mains power pack and use USB power so the whole package is field portable.

Hey OldOne,
We have been supplied with Alpha Elite.

Why is that you're seeking a password over a public forum and not through the official channels? Surely St John Ambulance SA has someone/an external contractor to organise their radios/ GRN requirements. Sounds a bit dodge you're doing it over a public forum. In at St. Johns at Unley tomorrow, so will ask what the go is with this sort of thing. SAFECOM were the ones who commissioned the new paging website when Link went bust, perhaps you should be contacting them.

Furthermore, pager programming should also be done through the completed through the official channels (e.g. CFS has a contactor who can do it, along with selected staff). By doing this, pagers allocation (and which capcodes have been programmed into each) can be tracked via the appropriate SAGRN pager fleet map.

Hate to burst your bubble, but nothing dodgy here...
I presently have 70 ish pagers here that I need to test, each pager has more than one allocation to it so rather than telephone the indial call centre in excess of 250 times I am seeking to send messages via the web.

SAGRN Helpdesk have several emails with some follow up questions and seeking the password to the web messaging gateway, is but one of them... I am more than happy to contact SAFECOM - thus my question to this 'public' forum - sometimes the answers we seek don't need to be hidden in a veil of secrecy, its just a matter of being pointed in the right direction.

As for the recoding, many thanks for your feedback, however we have been having our discussions with SAGRN and with XACOM and are comfortable with where we are at. It will not be our preference to do internal re-coding, however replacement of some pagers require a short turnaround time and might benefit from a local arrangement - this said, if there are local suppliers / programmers that might be able to assist, I am happy to collect their details and seek to utilise them instead.

Feel free to make your enquiries at Unley State Office, the IT guys will probably listen politely before referring any concerns / questions you have to me as I am coordinating the GRN project for St John. Feel free to PM me should you have any additional concerns...

Cheers

Further to my last, not having seen the software that some have mentioned above (airsource etc), can people provide a link or names of software that can be installed to accomodate on-line (non-critical) paging / messaging..???

Am about to commence testing and hopefully roll out GRN paging for St John Ambulance SA...

Was hoping that someone could advise of what the email address looks like for sending pager messages via a mail program (i.e outlook etc)
and
We are also waiting for Motorola to provide the password for the website to page via the web / online - Is anyone happy to PM me with the password..

Also, we have purchased the serial cable and housing to do our own programming to the pagers, but no user guide, anyone have any instructions on how to code pagers etc.. (Still chasing up SAGRN / Motorola).

I would think that it's not so much what the vehicle looks like (although that would be part of it), it's more what he is purporting or holding himself out to be something that he isn't that is the greater problem...!!!

Is this likely for more personnel or specialised fleet, due to some form of asset protection..???

If it were personnel alone, then I would have thought a mini bus with personnel on board would be more efficient than driving BRT into the country..!?!?

Just curious (again not being critical, more intrigued)..

I am curious as to whether 0430 recruitment for Strike teams and resources are really warranted given that this incident has been going for at least 3 - 4 days now..?? Whilst I fully appreciate that any fire can be dynamic and resource requirements can change rapidly, I would have thought that the resources required would be better understood (rather than a new, escalating fire) and that recruitment and acquisition of resources would occur in a more timely manner.

I am not being critical but rather making a constructive "outsiders" observation and asking whether this is the norm and / or appropriate for an incident that is 'not new' so to speak and that a 'Reduced Threat' message was issued last night...

ANy thoughts / feedback...???

Each with their pros and cons....

Thanks Mr T..
Access fee wasnt so much my query but is ballpark with what I have been quoted.

More curious about pager hardware cost and intial set up cost.

At present I am being priced an exorbitant (one off) set up fee per unit - almost 2.5 - 3 times the hardware purchase cost.

Seems VERY excessive..???

Anyone able to shed light on the costs associated with setting up a GRN pager as well as monthly ongoing costs... (per unit would be helpful)

Am rather surprised by some figures that I have been provided - both set up and ongoing... (seemingly very excessive..?!?!)

Some additional insight would be appreciated...

Do yourselves, your neighboring brigades and Adelaide Fire a solid and don't forget those acknowledgements and mobile messages.

Am thinking that "peer pressure" will assist with brigades complying over time..!?!?!? (i.e defaulting brigades getting dispatched but shortly after getting a stop with start to annoy (ahem, to put it politely) neighbouring brigades..!?!?!?)

Is this an automated type dispatch by SACAD (for nearest resource etc) or an operator derived dispatch - seems like a lot of resources for this case... Didnt see any "disregard / event cancelled" messages afterwards either..???

Just curious..????

If you had the opportunity to start from scratch and build a messaging / alerting / paging system, what features would you want / have / need..????

Also, what are some of the features that the GRN paging service offer that are underutilised OR that are absolute gems and make things easy..????

Thanks for the info..

At present I am trying to establish whether there are any providers of paging network / infrastructe other than Linkq or GRN...

Am hoping that Linkq continue to trade and provide an existing network...

Mobile phone / sms services have some limitations but having no access to a pager network is a greater inconvenience...!!!  :-D

Hi all,
Received information today that linkq have been placed into voluntary administration, being carried out by Deloittes Australia.
Have been led to believe that they are confirmed to trade until this Wednesday but no decision to trade beyond that has been made at this time - I have been led to believe that they may well be in a position to trade beyond that in the short term..

What impact might the above have on your agency and can anyone offer any other paging service (alerting / notification / messaging) that might be out there aside from GRN infrastructure / services...

Look forward to your feedback / ideas..!?!
