I should have clarified and said that SAAS medical officers have a DR callsign.
Am guessing that Uncle Hugh is DR1 and Bill is DR2 and maybe Evan is DR3..

From my south coast days, I think Lyn Gardiner (yankalilla) was DR9...

Happy to be corrected..

They are not a workshop vehicle, that's what they have Workshop 15 for who does all the after hours fix up jobsetc.

Whilst I wont disagree, I reckon I have seen pager messages asking various Lima staff to meet road crews with globes and fuses for A/H fixes....

Am certain bordey or some of the other SAAS guys can answer, but LS (Lima Sierra) is like an area / road supervisor - S = South, W = West, E = East and N = North.

They tend to have Ford Territory's or Commodore wagons and provide scene / incident management as well as clinical support and also extra equipment to jobs. Might also be an after hours workshop support by carrying globes / fuses etc.

Could be wrong on the above and look forward to jamesG or Bordey replying..???!!

Hey Jayc,
Mallala, Yankalilla, Goolwa, Strathalbyn or Mt Pleasant would be the closest vol stations for SAAS if you live in metro adelaide

Stirling is a career station...

Safework SA have released a Code of Practice that relates to Fatigue Management / Working Hours, formally in May 2020. http://www.safework.sa.gov.au/uploaded_files/ACOPonWorkingHours.pdf

Their website states that there has been a specific document developed that addresses the needs of emergency service volunteers
Quote
The particular considerations of employees and volunteers who provide frontline emergency services have been addressed in the development of specific emergency services guidelines.  Please contact SAFECOM for further details.

The following link will take you to the Safework SA webpage that deals with the COP - Working Hours... http://www.safework.sa.gov.au/show_page.jsp?id=8489

Like it or not, I suspect that agencies will need to seriously consider fatigue management and show some robust strategies to effectively manage the OHS&W requirements of their staff (paid and/or volunteers) with regards to their working hours.

To a large degree the volunteer MUST also take some responsibility for their own welfare too.

Just some info for the forum to digest.

Cheers
Shane
PS - reckon this might in fact migrate into a new thread - sorry mods...

SAAS / Re: SAAS Making it harder to Volunteer !!!!
« on: June 12, 2010, 01:41:26 AM »
Hey Numbers,
My apologies if my comments about the AEA seemed harsh.. Wasn't intended to irk anyone, just more stating my previous experience. I have a huge amount of time and respect for vols (in all services), but a union is a union and I can't imagine the UFU going into battle for the plight of CFS volunteers..??!!!

The concept of volunteering is drastically changing and people commit less time at shorter notice now days... An average emergency service vol used to have about 2 - 3 years service before leaving, I wonder whether that has reduced and whether the respective services are changing their crewing / rostering and more importantly their training to reflect this and STILL meet community expectations...

I completely agree that we should provide the highest level of service to any community but is there an argument to have some form of response v's none..???

think we should give it ago this year and see what happens at the end of the day we are vollys and what are they going to do sack us we have support through the AEA if anybody thinks they are being unfairly treated then find out who your nearest AEA rep is or contact the AEA for advice.

Ummm, why would the AEA want to know or care... And they certainly aren't likely to assist with the plight of vollies, I wouldn't think..!!?!??! (Unless something dramatic has happened in the last few years...)

Can't talk about recent times, but Strath always had a 'rule' that its vollies had to live within the town. I did 10 years at Goolwa and saw many Adelaide people try and do work at Strath station and were always knocked back...

As a side note and slightly O/T - I am somewhat reluctant to post in these medical / first aid / ambulance threads, due to the hiding behind pseudonyms / profiles that people do (and the multiple profiles etc). Whilst I accept that annonyminity does provide some 'cover' for greater free speech, people should have the balls to have their say and be transparent in doing so...

Just my thoughts...

Cheers

Is there a requirement for the Vol to have to see or tocuh an ambulance or patient in that 624 hours...???? or simply be rostered on shift..???

That makes a big difference, particularly if you are from a station that only does 50 - 100 jobs a year, as opposed to a vol station that does 500 jobs a year...

Country Fire Service / Re: ABC Stateline

Lets say that we did go with the 30 Air Tractors option rather than the Sky cranes, how much more infrastructure would be needed to support this....??? (I personally think we spend too much on Sky Cranes over Air Tractors, but aerial fire fighting is not my forte, so my opinion is limited).

- Hangar / storage space
- Pilot Crewing
- Ground crewing
- Water Tankers / filling capabilities and consumables (retardant / foam etc)
- Fuel and cartage / storage
- Command / Coordination of ++++ air resources deployed to and at a fireground

Would the above be achievable and effective / sustainable compared to the Sky Cranes...

(PS - I have written the above without yet watching the Stateline story, so will go and watch now...!!!)

Cheers
