Not truly a pager message but couldn't think where else to put it

The Country Fire Service (CFS), Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and SA Police (SAPOL) are asking all South Australians to be vigilant and 'Bushfire Ready' as the state braces itself for a heatwave.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast maximum temperatures of 410C over the next three days, with the mercury expected to remain above 350C until Monday.

The CFS Assistant Chief Officer Rob Sanford said everyone's assistance, especially those who live in high fire risk areas, will be essential over the next few days to keep their communities safe and prevent bushfires.

Now thats hot in any language   :-D

I'm sure someone out there can answer this for me!
What does "SARC CANT" stand for in relation to pager messages sent out
eg    CFS: *CFSRES: RESCUE 54 RELOCATE TO WOODSIDE AB - SARC CANT. > 27/01/2009 10:51:12 AM

Thankyou and stay cool

hahndorf is the town of lucky dips...really lol...

Barker, Bridgewater, Balhannah and littlehampton roll up roll up, put ya bets in!

There is an intersection ( on brigades/ group response boundaries) in Verdun near Hahndorf, known locally as the Bermuda triangle.
It was given this name for the ability to consume upto six brigade responses to a simply car accident and still have room for more.
Any brigade from a selection of Stirling, Aldgate, Bridgewater, Hahndorf, Balhannah or Barker could be sent, any the standard was usually 3.

that would be group op's training ;)

Not quite the first one was an actual job involving a collision between two vehicles and a 100 metre oil spill as a result.Old Belair Rd was closed for almost 2 hours
Belair 34P on scene and Sturt Deputy blocking the road at the top.

The other paging was a exercise as Sturt Group train on friday nights

Knew there was a reasonable answer, Thanks

For the record Williamstown did the cut out without any need for other equipment, Lyndoch and Concordia set up the landing site at the local oval.
Where this information about Loxton came from has even got us baffled!

QUOTE from AdelaideNow news site 13/10/08
"SATELLITE images suggest the fire danger season is approaching faster than the Country Fire Service is prepared to admit.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts the state is "ready to burn fairly soon", but the CFS is yet to declare when the fire ban season will begin."

As well as DEH we also have the advantage of Forestry SA out here.

I did a arborist course as part of my studies with TAFE. The course included felling trees etc and was a 10 week course, however it was over 5 years ago and I have been informed I need to do a Re-accred with the CFS before I can use a chainsaw again. :? I currently use a chainsaw as a landscaper.
Even though I have the training for felling I have never been allowed to fell at an incident.
Was this course nationally recognised??
Yes the course is nationally recognised and done as part of my cert 3 in horticulture, and to the best of my understanding there is no time limit to it.  That also applies to the yellow ticket for elevated platform.
I can understand us not being allowed to fell trees on a fire ground but the 5 year restriction on chainsaw use seems severe especially when I can legally use it for work, and am trained like many other to a higher standard.
Well thats my grip for today :-D

Also at current DEH are trained to fell trees, so if you have them on the fireground get them to do it as they do it every day anyway.

I have personnel in my brigade who can fell trees as they have RPL with CFS with this skill in their occupation but only time they use this skill is at a fire which works for me.

09:16:20   21-05-08   WORKING BEE TOMORROW AT NEW GROUP BASE URAIDLA COMMENCING AT 0900HRS YOUR TIME IS ALL THAT IS REQUIRED FROM GO CFS East Torrens Group Info

Came across this page.  As I understand it there isn't a brigade at Uraidla so is this Group Base not attached to a station.
If so is this the only one, I'm not aware of any other.
How does the group go with operational running it, normally a brigade would start an incident and the same people would run the group base as needed.  So does this group have a group support or similar.
On top of all that I'm surprised they got the finances to duplicate communications etc above whats avaiable in current stations.

Cheers

After looking at the paging site I think we should all be careful what we wish for.  Lots of lost burn-offs and rekindles many requiring more than one brigade, obviously not out of the grass fire season just yet.
However if BOM are correct that should alter with up to 30mm rain forcast.

Is this ad just aired in the S.E? Have yet to see it on TV.

No we saw it Sunday night about 9pm on Ch10.  Wasn't paying much attention to the ads so when the tone 7 went off it took the heart rate up alittle and sent us scrambling for pagers. Got a touch confused when the pager stopped after 3 sets when I muted the tv  :-D

SA Firefighter General / Re: Blue cats eyes instead of fire posts
« on: May 07, 2008, 11:18:10 PM »
I have also noted the use of bright blue flexible roadside posts with blue reflective strips on them. Used on dirt roads, where cats eyes aren't appropriate.  Stand out very well, day and night.....

I have not seen the blue posts even on a recent trips to Yorke & Fleurieu Peninsula's.

Will the posts be added to roadside farm/council water points so you can locate them quickly (esp for vehicles responding from outside the local area) ? Or is this not necessary ?

These blue posts have been up in the Nuriootpa area for about 10 months now, haven't noticed them elsewhere so perhaps they are only a trial.  Seen them on the Barossa Valley Highway so not just limited to dirt roads.
I must admit it would have been nice to be told they were coming thou!

And it comes up as Respond Private alarm and yes it has been a real job once (before i joined)

If it's the incident I'm thinking of, with the fire in the ceiling of the Bunkhouse the fire was called in rather than an alarm as it was above the smoke detectors.  Or was there another.
For any future disturbance esp. during the night I apologise, whilst employed there I worked hard to get a monitored system installed.

The bridgewater one affectionally known as BURP was the one I was referring to in my previous post, just didn't want to mention brigades as I didn't know how widely known the info was.

All Equipment discussion / Re: URP Problems
« on: March 24, 2008, 08:54:43 AM »
The URP in my previous brigade had also blown the seals 3 times, twice at training and once when we were told it was all fixed so we took it out to see if it was  it wasn't :-D.  In the end the Aux pump was simply removed as the appliance never went to grass fires etc anyway.

I believe the problem lay within the plumbing.  The PTO pump can put out a much greater pressure than the Aux pump is designed to take, however they put the Aux pump in line between the PTO pump and the discharge.  If this is the case I would have thought some way of isolating the Aux pump would have been better.

Feel free to correct me on this, my info is third or fourth hand.

Country Fire Service / Re: Brigade Paging
« on: March 13, 2008, 07:21:07 AM »

we have all been isssued with pagers which we recieve the occasional info message letting us know about meeting etc etc. i have requested that we recieve the weather info, level of preparedness messages so that we are informed of when things happen so that our brigade can respond quicker and be ready instead of getting a page out of the blue wanting people to come in quick.

Dave

As the saying goes welcome to our world

But I wouldn't want all the messages re weather, level of preparedness etc maybe as a state ops brigade you just need to be be informed of any incident that is escalating or has the potential to.  The other option is to get yourselves included into any page that goes out from any region requesting IMT support, that should cover the above point too.
Lets hope we don't need you all that often thou :-D

Cheers
