Country Fire Service / Re: New Paid Staff jobs
« on: January 17, 2010, 02:39:30 PM »
The base is 45ish and every shift attracts generous penalties plus the all the overtime. One of the guys in a neighbouring brigade is an officer in town, not a bad place to start. It seems to be relatively competitive for the few positions there are...(unless you know current staff in there )

I heard they were just going through the motions of recruitment and were not actually gonna take any from the pool.

I heard the "Super Dooper HQ Semi-Firemen/Sandwich Making/Paper Shredding/Volunteer Secretarian that think they run the entire CFS Brigade" get all excited and camp by the front doors of Waymouth St like 43 year old women at a Robbie Williams concert

Regional LOPS determine the state LOP by FDI's and/or Operational Activity.

Country Fire Service / Re: New CFS website
« on: November 16, 2008, 02:43:44 PM »
This might answer your question.

The Data on the CFS website is reproduced off of CRIIMSON which is the most up to date information contrary to Zippy's beliefs. For day to day incidents they will remain going for 2 hours after the last entry in CRIIMSON.
For most incidents the only information in CRIIMSON is the initial response and acknowledements depending on how enthusiastic the operator is. The incident summary on the website is for public information. It is not intended on being a resource tracking tool for over-enthusiastic,information craving volunteers...

Taken from the Interesting pager messages thread!

Im mates with several paid officers in the CFS....They work stupidly long hours, get paid peanuts, are always on-call and have a ridiculous work/life balance.

The CFS relies on staff being commited to the service. Remember most staff started as vollies and a majority still are vollies who have a distinct passion for the CFS and enjoy being employed by the service. It is only now in this time and age where the cost of living is increased and passion/love/commitment to the service plus the shite pay arent enough any more. Factor in the arse covering processes that lurk around every corner and the politics of SAFECOM/CFS/MFS and the private sector really doenst look that bad...

SAMFS / Re: Aldinga MFS

I also heard at the same time that the Mfs are wanting to go well into cfs area for rescue, like 10 minutes. All to do with Mfs looking at the CAD maps and realising where they can get to in the same time as CFS.

Aldinga Beach will probably stay RCR for a loooong time yet, since 9'ner appliances get called to anything, they are unavailable for rescues when already at a job till made available....

what happens when 2 MVA's happen in the same suburb EG Maslins ;)   1 might end up being a rescue, while the other just a injuries/spill...

What if the same thing happens in Mt Barker? or anywhere, at least if a rescue leaves MFS area they send a COQ.

I can think of a few reasons people are leaving CFS.

1 - They get nowhere near as much $ as other fire services.
2 - Safecom seem to be taking alot of "power" away from cfs.
3 - The private sector like mining etc is offering alot better conditions.

Thats a few off the top of my head.

I thought that the CFS/MFS/SAFECOM are going to start recruiting off this forum! Everyone on here is a rocket scientist specialising in fire service operations...you are all in the running for CHIEF!!!  :-D

Thats no different to the unit that responds to fire service calls off the pager site/pdw!

Is Aldinga part of the Top 12? I dare say if MFS already have the land, there will be a station and a pump there in the near future...

Hey all!

I heard a rumour from a very reliable source that SAMFS have or are looking at purchasing land and building a station at Aldinga Beach? It makes sense with all the development and infrastructure down south. Can any forum/Kyeema/Aldinga Beach members shed any light on the subject?

Cheers
