SA Firefighter General / Re: BA Operators

Food was nice :) and lots of it... most people lose weight from sweat, i actually gained on B.A! Anyway in our brigade we normally suffer during daytime for RCR members, even though we have another whole truck of non-rcr! But as you said the State says the limits, and until someone in our brigade steps out, none of us younger ones will get a chance and WE ARE LOOSING MEMBERS OVER THIS!!!! That is one downside of CFS i think. Stopping someone from wanting to do a course. I understand more training comes back on the brigade in this situation obviously.

Country Fire Service / Re: Use of fire sirens
« on: December 14, 2005, 11:08:08 PM »
Hi,

We very rarely use our sirens for callouts now, only for fixed alarms but they are all changing to this new fancy system now so not for long!

We also use it for training nights with the three wails, plus on total fire ban mornings. Our siren will not go off between 8:00 and 20:00 hours. Our community barely knows that we exist.......... i think.

Country Fire Service / Re: CB radio on trucks

Hi,

In the Angaston Group every appliance is fitted with a UHF CB for mainly rural use with farmers. We also use it as a spare chat channel and it comes in handy! We do use it a lot when we have MVA's on the highway to get info from trucks, or to tell trucks about diverts etc, etc. I think after the E.P fires they are making this more common.

Hi All,

As a B.A wearer myself i would not feel confortable entering any situation where you have to wear a B.A without B.A gloves. As an example for you i was looking on the www.fire-brigade.asn.au site earlier and i saw pictures from a house fire at Bridgewater. There was a Captain in B.A wearing riggers gloves! Now sorry if i offend anyone but a brigade doing 120+ calls a year mainly urban responses would each B.A wearer not have correct gloves. Everyone else was wearing correct PPE, well not now :)

ALL Rescue / Re: Reacreditation for RCR Training
« on: December 09, 2005, 02:37:34 PM »
Hi All,

Are there any brigades having trouble getting members into RCR courses at Brukunga? Our brigade is at our level but still struggle for crew some times, but when can always crew nearly two trucks with non rcr guys?
I think the re-accred must be done after you obtain a book for every rcr trained member, then it takes "AGES" to get everyone through.

Puts a lot of pressure on your briagade training resources.

ALL Rescue / Re: Disc Cutter
« on: December 09, 2005, 02:32:31 PM »
Hi All,

We have had a disc cutter for a while now, but we have been unable to use it as there is no written S.O.P for it? I was talking to another brigade with one and they said that they just use a chainsaw S.O.P?
What do other brigades do?

Thanks

Country Fire Service / Re: You'll Pay, Black Tuesday Victims To Sue CFS

Hi All,

I just thought that i would comment on people thinking that CFS will cover their homes. In our group we only have 8 capable bush fire fighting appliances. If we have an appliance at each house at a fire, who will fight the fire? Residents have been told about this and they do not seem to care.
On another note about the Eyre Pen. fires if you think what the CFS did the night before when they were trying to contain those fires. I forget exeactly CFS rules but i think it is something like 5 hours that you are allowed to be on the fireground for at a time. How close is the next briagade over there, it is almost the same time for us to get 4 full group strike teams here as it takes to get one striketeam here. With such a vast area with little resources it just doesnt work.
