Country Fire Service / Re: Burnover Training
« on: January 14, 2007, 09:11:38 AM »
They where sent back early but they have stuffed up so much on the truck its unreal. they will be putting in about 15 near miss forms. They are also going to send in a letter of concern in to the Group so it can come up at the Group meeting. They also believe now that it should only be a composite crew, they ended up only driving at about 80kms too light on they steering for them.

Do Group Officers do any Burnover training?  Our Group Officer sent a team off to Mt Bold fire on a truck that no one has used before. It is last years model so no one nows how to use the Halo system or the Air Breathing System in it, none of them have used this truck at all. This sounds a bit dangerous to me and silly. We tried to tell the G O that they need a little bit of training just like we did when we got it but he said its going they need the twin cab and the air con. Who can we talk to?

Compartment Fire Behaviour / Re: Using 25mm Sidereels at Structure Fires
« on: January 02, 2007, 12:26:32 PM »
We have managed to save a couple of houses with them as when we have arrived we had headges and trees on fire from the spread put them out as the pump operator got the 38s ready. This has happened more than ones. We have also kept the fire to one room with the sidereels so at a structure fire they are the first hose to grab in our group.

Thats all we use at the first attack until we have the other hoses ready. We also use them when we go in they work fine no problems.

We allways have a box of snacks on our truck even if its a quick callout. If we would like we have a snack when ever, it contains muesli bars, fruit bars, lollies, LCM bars, small pk chips, biscuits, cherry ripes, violate crumbles ect. munchies for all. Then when needed we put on the ration packs and are they full of food. :-D

A member from my brigade went and done Ba the other weekend and he was told there was no time frame for when he would get his PBI gold as they had to get all the MFS fitted out first.

Why is it only one person can for you in PBI gold its not tht hard to messure you up if thats what they call it.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Brigade Drivers
« on: November 10, 2006, 09:16:35 PM »
We do OK....I think we have about 6 drivers, with a few more to be trained...if your brigade is short of driver's, there is a scheme through HQ / Region, that will pay to have people's licences upgraded to an MR (or an HR) if the brigade meets the criteria.....

Pip

Pip our Group has had a request put in for the last 3 years all brigades in our area are allways looking for drivers. We keep being told we have to wait as we are to far out of Adelaid. Last time I looked we where still CFS but who knows.

What happens if a girl got pregnant out in combat or something

So you are saying she had unprotected sex out in combat. I thought she would have had the implant put in to stop her getting pregnant?

If you follow the correct GRN protocols you should only need one hand held per appliance.

Only one person from the appliance needs to be talking to the GO or Base.  And in the event of a large incident your truck shouldnt be using GRN at all as all communications should be done on the VHF system back to your sector commander who then talks higher up the chain on GRN.

We got told that going by the GRN protocols if you where a EMA brigade you get a extra portable but we are still waiting for that one.

Was at a truck roll over one day when a car of young lads where watching what was going on instead of where they where going and ended up hitting the back end of the truck that was on its side. The driver got out of the car and said the truck stopped suddenly and his brake lights did not work thats why he hit him. :?

He was supprised to see that his light touch would tip the truck over. The police took him to the station and thats where he stayed fora day or two.

That there are more GRN's ordered per brigade.  One portable per truck is not sufficient.

When you change talk group it tells you what talk group you are on.

We have 5 portables for 2 vehicles, I'd check your SOFC to see how many you should have been issued, and check if some are lost or 'in hiding'

Talk Group - why not just look at the screen?

It does not matter what the SOFC say. They will tell you that there are no more in the state and they are not making them any more. We should have 2 but only received 1 have been trying to get the other one but no luck.

The BRT has turned up and the ladder is smaller than ours and they only had 2 CABA members and 1 rookie still in training first fire. This has happened.

We use mixed, we used to change it if a vehicle would not get out of our way but our Capitan has said ours is to stay on mixed if they can not hear that too bad. So when he is not there we keep changing it on traffic conditions.  :-D

Berri is back up to Renmark in this case because Paringa do not have enough BA operators, and is SOP within SAMFS. (Berri are fairly quick to get to Renmark also, they don't stuff around).

Thats funny I know that Paringa have 8 Hazmat operators. They even have members that do BA and not Hazmat.

Berri took over 10mins to get a crew, then it would be and then another 10 to 15 mins to get there.

Well thats the info I have heard anyway.
