ALL Rescue / Re: 'Heavy' Rescue
« on: February 03, 2008, 11:24:01 AM »
would their CFS counterparts get upset calling SAMFS to assist in a CFS area?

Chook if the CFS are called in for Fire cover in there area and you needed extra resources for Rescue  then possable there could  be possable  no problem, also you will need to speak to them out there and see.

Curious though Glossop responded instead of Berri Mets, it turns out it is about 500 mtrs from their boundary! Makes a mockery of the Big Orange comments the other day

???????? from who's boundary. Its CFS right up to the the Caltex on that road, on the Golf course side its CFS as well right through to Renmark. You may need to have a look at the respounce boundery maps. Yes it might be needed to change as it will be later but until then when they get called they go.

Belair Tanker has no problems being driven off road with the right driver.  Goes most places in the Belair National Park once you lock in the rear axles.  The Allison Gear Box has a brilliant low ratio.

Southern Fleurieu Group Tanker (RFW) will go anywhere a 24 will (height dependent) however has some limitations due to the tipper. Would be a great tanker if you were to take the tipper off, add a 500gpm PTO and 15000ltr tank!

I think there is a place for an off road capable BWC in a lot of areas, particularly during long hoseline running in hilly country.

What about sand hills that are around?

I'm not sure about water tankers, but here I'm on good terms with the local mayor and we get pretty much what we want e.g they sent a front end loader out for a couple of trees down - nil cost. And when we had a few problems with flash flooding he was right on it. So I guess it is duration of the task etc.
I remember at the Winkie Case fire several years ago there were tankers from council & contractors + a five tonne front end loader. Iguess that is the other problem too - councils tend to contract out now so they may not have the equipment. And Monash CFS & Renmark MFS both have BWC's so we are pretty right for bulk water. cheers Pip

Nah sorry chook its not Monash CFS BW7 it belongs to Chaffey Group but again there Group Base is not big enough to fit all there stuff so that why the  old GO stored it at Monash. Thats what I have heard, and to make it even stranger the BW7 is not 4 wheel drive so where they need it most it will not go. It can not go to far off road.

yep the Highway is called Sturt Highway sorry a slip of the finger, no I don't live there just saw the paper work of that Groups responce area.

Not sure why Glossop & then Monash were responded, would have thought Lyrup would have got the first shout. Glossop told comms that Monash was closer.

Well Lyurp will not get called there because of the River, it has always been Monash responce area all the way down to the Airport at Renmark on that side of the Road. Infact if you look at the Responce area paper work with the MFS the Airport is a duel responce with Renmark MFS and Monash CFS

If you put Stuart hwy , Berri into the system its gonna suggest MFS, somehow I doubt there is an address of "the big orange, Berri"

That is really called Old Stuart Highway up to the intersection where you turn off to Monah Roads have had name changes a few years ago

Normally it will come up as Glossop CFS not sure why as they have always been told its Monash on that side and Glossop on the Other side. There system has not changed properly when they had a Road name change from Stuart Highway to Old Stuart Highway.

Not take over an SES job? Shock horror :-D
Why not? (joking of course!)
And what you say about CFS vs Retained MFS is quite correct - there is not much difference. And once you have the equipment then training and refresher training won't be an issue. As I said before if the risk is there then the equipment should be available. We have large wineries here with distilleries as well & large factories with sandwich panel inner walls (no sprinklers) so the ability to go up and over walls including large concrete tanks would be a bonus.
Good luck with your ideas on aerial appliances - I think you need them.
cheers

Yes it is strange that one of the Riverland MFS brigades dont have a skyjet.  A lot of large buildings in that area.  Same with Victor MFS & Maybe even Murray Bridge MFS.

Realistically i can only think of three areas that may require an aerial appliance within CFS areas.  That would be Mt Barker, Barossa somewhere (Nuri?) & Millicent.

When I have been to the Riverland I have not see any use for a skyjet.

Country Fire Service / Re: CFS appliances using ferries
« on: November 24, 2007, 10:25:14 AM »
Those brigades that might be affected should of already, or shortly be receiving communication from the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure.

The only ferry currently in danger of closing permanently is the Mannum Upstream ferry and seeing as there is another ferry within 10m of the closed one, there should not be an issue for emergency vehicles etc.

The others that are at risk will only close when conditions are such that they cannot operate and this is normally due to wind direction.  The water levels can vary up to 300mm depending on wind direction.  This may affect ferries such as Tailem Bend and Swan Reach.

If I was in work at the moment, I could get the full press release that was issued today regarding this, but suffice to say that the department realises the severity of this issue and is working with all concerned (eg school busses etc) to try and cover all the potential issues to the community.

It will not be easy though!

If you are in a brigade concerned and have not heard anything, have a chat with your local ferry operator, they may sort something with you directly, or put you in contact with the relevant people at the department (Transport Services based in Murray Bridge) - won't put the names and numbers here, PM me if you want them.

I was wondering about the Ferry at Lyurp,Morgan and Cadell

I know all I said was why not use that space  instead of leaving it free all the time?

Its currently on the north and south side of the hwy, there are some shacks on the north side (asset protection?) currently the towns are not threatened ( spent the afternoon in the IMT room). Got to see the hook truck in action - flash furniture truck :-D. Not that I'm a convert but it did look impressive dropping the container onto the ground to unload some stuff before proceeding to the staging area at Cobby. Still didn't get a look in side (you people get out of our way!)  Pity those same people didn't bother to respect the no go areas of a shared facility or respect an instruction not to block the access between our shed and our radio room with crap. Anyway thats another story, as far as I can work out its all going to plan
cheers

Hay chook maybe you should go and have a look at the front line you may say different. It was pritty close to tin town and other homes. Last I saw the pod was at Moorook oval at staging area when I droped of a member to get first aid. It was full of stuff as well as lot out on the Fire ground. Well could you give them a go with the space in Group Base there was quite a few people in need of space. Why waste the front room for a no go zone only High rank SES they are in a need of space.

Why if nobody moves for a big white fire truck with lights and siren going why will they move for a small car doing the right speed?

I have seen a MFS unit go with lights and siren to a RCR over the Boarder they get to the Boarder and get stopped by Adelaide Fire, They then got on a CFS unit traveled 5km over the Boarder then get told by Adelaide Fire to walk back to there unit and go back to there station.

No not Rafferty's rules out there. Palmer could not get enough crew to start with for what they thought was 2 different RCR so why not make sure you get enough cover on the road. Are you sure no cars involved to start with they where told 1 car so what is it dammed if you do dammed if you don't.

We use  Trickle charging with a timer inbuilt to the charger, it first test the battery if needed it charges if not it does nuthing. Checks the battery every day around midnight and midday, so far no problems with the battery's.
