All Equipment discussion / Re: Helmets
« on: October 14, 2005, 02:03:31 PM »
My brigade have 2 helmets per person if they are BA. We only wear one at the moment. Why is there so many different type for bushfires we tried scott aspen but that was a disaster the group now have about 10 to 15 helmets not being used. Now we have to decide what other do you use a pacific BR5 or BR9, or another type to confusing. I do the purchasing for the group and its so hard to get a helmet they all like unless its a cairns 660. Any one with an idea of what to get?   :? :? :?

« on: October 05, 2005, 09:23:02 AM »
Our town have asked us not to use the siren after 2300hrs until 0700hrs unless there is something they need to know about or get ready to evacuate as a treated timber place has been put in just opposite the high school and just down from the middle of the town. But first we must get them in to get it fixed as it makes the gray box on the wall smoke up a bit. Shame we can not use local electricians on it.

We get ours done once a year as the GO thinks any more than that we are wasting money. But he has said if we can prove it needs to be done more than that it will change so I will have a look to where it written and give them a copy.

Where i come from may be in a small town but we still have 5 boosters around our town. We will have to wait for another truck to come in from another town, luckily both towns are only 5 to 10 Min's away.

I'm a bit slow to reply but we used to use ours but it started to make the Grey box on the wall smoke and spark. Still waiting for someone to come and fix it as they say there is not enough work for them just to come to our Group for one small problem.

« on: October 03, 2005, 02:20:16 PM »
I know we get calls direct to our alerts no from 1800 reverse and this has had our alerts line locked up for about an hour they could  find where it came from as it was a public phone at the local high school. They now have games as to see who can make us turn up its worth $50 to them.  :x :x

David you said one went to the pump, the other went straight to the tank? I must be missing a link in the brain my next question then will be why? :? :? I thought it would be better to be able to hook up to the boosters. Could you try to explain it to me.

I saw the new 14 for Monash in the mag and it looks more sporty, it should go well in and around the low trees, tight places.

Ah, Kat, thats where your region is letting you down badly, I have seen some pictures from other brigades in your region fighting a large factory type fire with BA operators in Proban, when I asked a member of this brigade I was told the Nomex was hanging in the station, they didn't know what they where going to!! !!

So I think you need to ask your region what is going on!!

So your Urban/Rural, interesting, has anyone tried getting there standards looked at lately? It seems nobody wants to know about it.

That sound like my Group as The Brigade Im from is Urban/Rural and we have been told that we will get the new levle 3 gear in about 2 years. Then it will go for the new BA members only not the older ones.

Our second trailer that is from around the 50s or 60s could go there with all of the stuff on it. Then it would be with one of our old fire trucks. I would like to see the old truck as I have only seen photo's on the wall at the station. :-)

« on: September 24, 2005, 04:13:49 PM »
We get called out for flood on the Highway about 20 times a year so we have our wet weather gear on just over our own clothes and use helmets and gloves so its easy to move around. We are in a dry part of the state as well so lucky it only rains a few times a year.

I went to a motor bike v sandy buggy m v a and found out at the scene that the motor bike rider was my son, my partner and daughter are members as well, we all wear on the truck. So if we stood away from the incident we only had 3 other members to do anything so we helped out and went to the hospital after we had finished. No spam was called did not no about them until a few weeks later by then it was too late, so we where told. All okay now.

The only major problem we have is when we request samfs to an incident they have not received there page. They argue with us that its our area when we are in there town ship. :? :?

They seem to have a problem with the old boundaries unless its in the main street they do not get called out. I have been on the phone when we get the call from them and they argue with us so we go to the incident and keep on calling them to attend. :x

MMMMM That sounds much like when I had my foot ran over because I would not let a car go past a truck roll over and had fuel leaking. They got mad and drove there car straight at me. I was quick enough the first time but a bit slow the second attempt. They where charged and lost there license.
