Country Fire Service / Wirrabara - Maps and Vols
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:55:48 PM »
Hi,
I am interested in obtaining the latest line scan map available to the public of the Wirrabara burn area. Does anyone know where I can get one please?

Secondly how the vols coping with the requirements of long shifts during the "non-fire" season and have strike teams been easily filled? It must be hard telling the boss you need to duck off for a day or two.

SA Firefighter General / Wanted: Cranks required for live web blog.
« on: February 26, 2010, 09:12:49 PM »
Hi Cranks and Crankesses,
We are currently trialling a bit of funky software that allows local residents who are near or might be affected by fires to ask questions and have others respond.

The aim is to trial it for a week or two and see if it is a valuable tool for bigger days in SA.

We are after a couple of cranks to talk it up and let the listeners know what is going on on larger fires. If the bin outside the fish and chip shop starts smouldering, it doesn't get a gig.

Times on-line are up to you - it's whenever you can.

A few rules only...
  • No internal CFS or government docs or text to be used. EG non-public info in CRIIMSON cannot be given out.
  • Support the vols and staff on the ground.
  • Limited bagging of all things Victorian is expected.

Interested? Enter your details into the Google Form and we will get you online for a few days...

Country Fire Service / Google maps of CFS regions available
« on: September 13, 2009, 12:18:27 AM »
Hi all,
The original requirement was to plot the CFS regions but has appeared to morph into plotting all the stations which took a bit more time.

Stations have been "plonked" in or near the centre of town rather than at the fire shed.

The region border is roughly close but not exact. I reckon I am within 100kms although the region 4 and 6 border we are talking a couple of small European countries out.

The second issue was that Google hated the number of overall pins and I have had to create separate maps per region.

They are open for updates from anyone however I will probably just give a few edit rights once they are refined a bit more. Happy for brigades to use these as they want and to add places like fire towers or non-operational locations as long as they are fire related.

All Regions
Region 1
Region 2
Region 3
Region 4
Region 5
Region 6

First time poster, recent subscriber here from Mexico.

Firstly, I was deeply moved regarding the Vic Fires thread from around page 3 to page 6. Interesting to see the comments from everyone is it went to poo over the border and there was nothing that you could do. Thanks for all your thoughts and understand completely the ones who wanted to head code 1 and those who knew that the time would come.

I wonder if someone could provide a link to a detailed map of the regions on the interweb somewhere.
