they sure would be great for some of the brigades along the coast, i was just stating i dont thin kyoull ever get it from region or state (go brigade money?), but remember its also more crap packed into the truck.

it would be great if goolwa could get a fire boat even, considering how big the new marina is... to tell ya the truth, hindmarsh island could almost use a fire station now... that marina si one hell of an asset.

the thing about fire boats is....    theres only one in the state. Stn 27.

Tell me about it that marina is huge, there used to be a Hindmarsh Island brigade but was closed down around 16years or so ago, but response times aren't too bad though. One of our previus captains tried to get some grant money together to get us a boat and we were just laughed at, but that is how the cookie crumbles.

Talking to Andrew Patten when he was down recently for a fire i mention the PFD thing to him and he thought it was a great idea, but what is one persons opinion isn't the rests unfortunatly

We often get called to our local primary school for alarms that just go off, but last year during school some little terd tried to torch the toilets in the new two storey building. The fire was put out by some very brave but foolish teachers (they got smoke inhalation). The building filled up with more than enough smoke to warrant being ventilated but not one of the smoke alarms activated, that was extremely worrying.

If you've ever had to help bring someone off a jetty in a marina or the like on a spinal board and people on both sides there isn't much room and the water is pretty deep below you, plus jetties and boats are extremely slippery, in my opinion PFD's would be a handy thing to have????

We had a large cabin cruiser go up a few years back on the river and from bank to bank is about 300-400 metres across and this boat was smack bang in the middle so we utilized the local sea rescue squadron who are basically private boats along with two crew, a hi volume pump and foam. Was a successful outing (for us not the boat :-o) But the problem is that there is no training for this. So we've organized our own training within the local marina's on old boats and thats fine but some defined SOP's and training by region or state would be better. :|

well for one your meant to have CABA on but if you go in the drink your in deep crap(literally)! but there isn't a SOP for it? We tried to get some PVD's to put on our 24p but were knocked back and told that we don't need them even though we quite often help SAAS with patients on boats, plus the fact our brigade covers the soon to be largest fresh water marina in the southern hemisphere. :? It's funny that a lot of the brigades that cover busy waterways in the state don't have access to life jackets and the such but i guess the wisdom of the CFS  believes that these incidents don't happen enough for it to warrant the extra equipment and training????

We've never had the problem with the station being open but these kids knew that we were out because it was a big fire but they've since had a few "verbal warnings" to stay away and they won't come near the station now.

We were at a fire on Hindmarsh Island one day and one of our members was at the station which was locked up, he heard noises out the back and when he investigated found some local low lives trying to take stuff from our cars. luckily nothing was taken because a few of the irate members were looking for retrobution. :x

I was also told by our crew that went to Willunga that the food from the Salvo's van was rubbish, but at the Mt Compass fire on Saturday the food from the Salvo's was outstanding, perhaps its what they've got at the time. But i do agree a good feed is necessary. The worst food i was ever given was 2 cucumber sandwiches after 9 hours on the fireground.

SA Firefighter General / Re: SAAS Responding Other Services..
« on: January 19, 2006, 06:25:40 PM »
I do agree with James on not getting responded to all MVA's in the urban/metro area, However in the RCR resource directory it states that outside the Adelaide metro area fire/rescue, SAAS and SAPol must be responded to all MVA's but currently the attitude is "oh the caller said it's not too serious" so we'll wait until our crew arrives for a sitrep before responding other services.

But as I've said in previous posts i think the members of all services do a stellar job, it's just some areas need fixing and it wouldn't be all that hard to do.

And Sam if you read this you should take all SAAS pages off of your site then it might stop us (OK me mainly ) having a whine about response times. :-P :-D

Didn't know we had the option of keeping our old appliances around "just in case". We were told heres your new appliance and when asked where our old one was going, we were told the bone yard at N.E Isuzu.

Maybe its just Sturt group having it their own way as usual, or maybe it's just me putting my foot in it (again). :-P :-D

Must be a whole new low for SAAS. SAAS responded to MVA Thompsons Beach at 2212 Dublin responded at 2244 with the msg 1xtrapped. Next page is for a SAAS retrieval team (i presume for the same job) It's getting beyond a joke i believe. :?

I'm sorry for the SAAS bashing it's not intended for the crews they do a great job. It's for the comms people. Talking to the Goolwa team leader the other day about the job we had and she said that it's common practice for the Comms people to wait for a truck to get to a job for a sitrep before responding other resources. I then asked if she'd heard of the RCR resource directory and she didn't even know it existed!!

A sad day for several brigades as they loose their pumpers for 34P's!

Time to issue PPE with black arm bands  :x
Imagine losing it for a standard 34 i think you would need a black full uniform for that .
Condolences to H/V on their loss  :-D

Why do they need the old appliance there while they train and test it? When we got our new 34 we lost the old one the same night after only about an hours training. :?

Same as us, our old 34 was gone as soon as we finished looking over the new one!! As for the fuel gauge problem when ours is full it only reads 3/4 :?

Does anyone know who's getting the prototype with the PTO?? Or has anyone seen it at N.E ISUZU yet??

Was just looking at the promotions website and it showed Belair as having their 34p and their pumper? are they keeping their pumper for the time being or is it a "Typo"??

Maybe CFS have come to their senses (i Doubt it though) and are letting them keep their pumper :-)

Had another first hand look at SAAS' poor response of other services this morning. SAAS was responded at 0727 to an MVA on hindmarsh island we were responded at 0747. On arrival the accident looked minor however the occupant suffered neck and spinal injuries and we were required to do a forward roof roll to extracate them. :x

Would it be worth complaining to SAAS or the RCR comittee?? Any Views??
