SASES / Re: SES familiarisation thread
« on: August 23, 2012, 08:30:24 PM »
To be able to stack their jobs SES wanted multiple resources per unit in SACAD.  26 letters in the alphabet, so 27 unit resources (one without a letter).

So for WAD20 Z, would that mean there are 27 stacked jobs, or would that just be the 27th job that day?

Country Fire Service / Re: Salisbury 34?
« on: July 26, 2012, 10:03:07 PM »
No real need for it to be attached to responses but that is just what happens in SACAD sometimes.

Happens in SACAD because it is an available resource.

What about the 3 appliances to an RCR thing. Any idea of the reason for that?

Just the way the response plans & station beat lists work with each other. EMA RCR response looks for a minimum of one rescue and one pump plus either one MFS or CFS appliance depending on which area. In the case of three Salisbury CFS appliances to the same job I would presume that local MFS were busy, so rather tHan going crazy and pulling a truck from miles away it fills that spot with the next nearest appliance.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!

Misterteddy, I completely agree with all your points, except this one:

...credit where it is due, I reckon the base level of fire appliance now is significantly better than in those days. At least everyone is in a seat, out of the rain, with a seatbelt and a mask to go diving in....

If you miss that old joy of getting rained on or sunburnt sitting on a plastic bench, you're welcome to come for a ride on our 24 some time!  Sure, the new appliances may be dual cab, but there are hardly enough of them to consider the problem solved are there?

SA Firefighter General / Re: GRN paging software

Can anyone tell me what pager addresses are currently used, ie Brigade info, Brigade response, Region weather, Region maildrop, Group info, Group officer info etc etc.  Curious to know what 'paging groups/addresses' are used.

Cheers.

We use all of the above in my group as well as Brigade Officers in some brigades.

Oh I see.

When it suits Stirling, they sook to the media about how being forced to relocate to another location will "add valuable minutes to a response time".

But, as it suits them now, offer to merge Picadilly into them, so the residents of Picadilly then get a reduced response time.

Hmmm......

What makes you think it's being instigated by Stirling?

Stirling might have something to do with it, both need new stations.

Correct.

So...a vehicle breaks down at a critical moment......you really think that falls into the "stuff up" category and not "one of those things" categories.

If you're reliant on a single vehicle to keep a burnoff under control, and the failure of that vehicle means you lose the burn, shouldn't you have a backup plan that doesn't involve calling in the airforce and half the CFS?

There is some long inbetween time with these jobs?

i dont get it?

Possibly a paging delay due to the outage?

Good luck cramming 6 personnel in a single cab and all be down as close to the floor as possible

Doesn't the halo cover the back seats as well?

Any word on why the cuts were suddenly necessary? Have they had budget cuts, or has the money just run out?

Meh personally what a waste of money on a single cab appliance..

Is it still a waste of money of it saves a life (or 6)?

Is that fitted to a singlecab?? Anyone know anything about this did the community pitch in to buy it hence the demo?

Yes and yes.

Just remember the responses are nothing to do with the people in Adelaide Fire, each agency has set up its own responses using brigade and group response plans, all Adelaide Fire do is hit send.

So who's done the responses for the EMA areas (such as those examples above)?

HAZMAT / Re: First alarm response
« on: December 07, 2011, 10:04:26 AM »
Yes, confirming for you that although CFS SOP states two HAZMAT and one tanker, SACAD responds only one HAZMAT and one tanker on first alarm.

So is it a change in SOP, or a shortcoming of SACAD that will be fixed?

HAZMAT / First alarm response
« on: December 05, 2011, 11:57:06 AM »
I've heard a rumour that the first alarm response has been changed to 1 Hazmat brigade, instead of 2.

It seems to have been put into SACAD as a single Hazmat brigade response:

MFS: *CFSRES INC0035 05/12/11 13:19 RESPOND HAZMAT, 169 MAIN RD BLACKWOOD,MAP:ADL 154 P 2,TG 146, ==Car park at these premises. Unlabelled containers appear to have been dumped. :AIRDESK4 BKWD34 EDNHPUMP28 R1 HASTIE : - CFS Eden Hills Response

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Emergency Vehicles / Re: New 24 prototype
« on: December 05, 2011, 10:34:00 AM »
I agree that we (CFS) seem to spend too much effort re-inventing the wheel. But when we have people saying that they do not need the crew deck in their area I wonder if they have caught the vision of a statewide (at least) fire service. I am sure that I saw Cherry Gardens on the side of an appliance at One Tree Hill on Saturday and if there had been a flare up they would have been keen to have a crew deck for the running grass fire. The alternative to a crew deck is a remote controlled monitor like the CFA prototype, but I suspect that they are expensive and not as responsive as a branck in an operators hands.

Isn't another alternative to a crew deck running a hoseline to the cab and sitting in the back seat spraying water out the window?

I'm sure I saw Cudlee Creek 24 sitting in Stirling station during the Mt Osmond fire, but I don't see a vision to fit out the entire state with 750 GPM pumps and rescue stowage...

We can't build an appliance that'll make everyone happy...

SA Firefighter General / Re: CFS using K-codes

Isn't

"Adelaide Fire Strath 34P"
"Send Strath 34P"
"Strath 34P mobile incident 81"
"Roger, Strath 34P, Adelaide Fire Out"

Just as easy?

Pip

I'm all in favour of keeping things simple, but
"Adelaide Fire, Strath 34P is K3"
is a lot quicker than saying
"Adelaide fire, Strath 34P is at incident but available to respond".

There are some cases where a K code is much faster and easier.

heaven forbid we could have a rescue appliance that carried more than lightweight Road Crash gear

Not to mention a Rescue Appliance as opposed to a Road Crash Rescue appliance.  (or is that supposed to be rescue tanker?)

Emergency Vehicles / Re: New 24 prototype

I think the heavy concept tanker photos that were kicking around were only ever a CFA idea float.
NSW RFS have implemented one or more extra heavy tankers out on the Hay Plain.
Can't remember their designation for it but it is a 6,000L fire fighting rural appliance,
as distinct from a 6,000BWC.

We probably ought to offer 5 or more standard heavy appliances:
  • Rural 24 - as per this thread's sketches - crew deck & limited locker space
Hills  brigade's second appliance to complement their 34P or 34U/R
  • Rural 44 - with limited locker space acceptable - big tank & crew deck, but no CABA or RCR
  • Rural/Urban 34 - smaller crew deck & tankage with slightly increased locker space for CABA / RCR
  • Urban/Rural 34 - no crew deck, even more locker space
  • 34P - as per current Skilled build
Plus light appliances for access - 14's & QA's

My 2 bob's worth anyway.

I'd add an Urban Pumper to that list.

Also I wonder what you propose to be the difference between the 34P and Urban/Rural 34 given the difference between current 34 and 34Ps is locker setup?
