nothing has reached open air in my brigade. doubt anything has yet been released by region let alone HQ...

I dont see how we can operate with changes...with even 3 weeks notice...

My Bet: Postponement again..and again... and again.   A government within a government.

Anyone grabbing the BOMS system for setting up in a fire museum? lol

first post in a while, and its worth it  *praying for one Fire & Rescue service*  All services under one name: SAFECOM/MFS/CFS/SES.

See the new infralog on the CFS members only section. They are coming just slightly delayed due to SEM ad its money problems.

Hey, are you able to attach it to a post,  cant seem to find it online.

These alarm numbers are quite useful,  seen them in use around the place to identify keys for each alarm in the brigade area.

It ensures key security as well...instead of labeling a set of keys at the station as 'such and such hospital'.  You can label them 321/001.

Typical.   Inside the SES, the CFS doesnt exist.

8x8m Filler Hose Lengths
Boosting, or used there the hydrant is literally beside the truck.

2 Trays, EACH tray containing 2x30m 64mm hose, flaked in a "supply" lay (Total of 4 hoses)
Yep, enough hose to get you 120m away from the appliance, or dualheading of a hydrant up to 60m away. By the time you need more, more appliances would be on scene, with more hose. Where most (generally) urban appliances are, the next appliance would be on scene reasonably soon, most likely when the appliance is nearly about to change over from tank to mains water.

And using your suggestion of making non-specialist brigades, a specialist brigade by holding more than normal hose...the 2nd or 3rd appliance, would have the amount of hose to reach 3 or 4 hydrants away.  Pseudo-Hoselayer appliances.

Meanwhile! 4WD appliances, should have 6 lengths of 64mm, to allow for a longer arrival time of further appliances.

6 x 38mm Delivery Hose.
2 lengths of 38mm per attack line. For two teams of two. 2 further lengths for an additional team or adding a length.

some quick notes to start.

- Hose on the passenger/safe side.
- Only Four classes of appliaces: Urban, Rural, Light Rural and BWC.

Amount of Hose:
Urban: 8 Lengths of Filler Hose, 2 Trays (60m) of 64mm Collecting Hose, 6 Lengths of 38mm.
Rural: Very much the same as a 34P and 34, and with 6 lengths of 25mm
Light Rural: Pretty much a 14 with 6 lengths of 25mm. 1 Length 64 and 2 length 38.

- A Rule: stick to a standard, very much like the old Hino's, till it fails to work in its working environment, then and only then, create a new long term standard.

« on: March 17, 2011, 09:48:08 PM »
Merge the two services.

Start with a new CEO.

Two Chief Commanders (the current CO's for both services), one responsible for Greater Adelaide, the other for South Australia.  *Note, no mention of the words urban or rural.

And then create a structure from there.

And replace the flippant Volunteer mag with a whole of fire service magazine reporting the real news for fire fighters, so that Adelaide Metro can understand what goes on outside, vice versa.

The C in CFA (Victoria) also stands for COUNTRY.....  Aerials, pumpers, tankers, QRV's  galore.

yes but they aren't South Australians either....they actually think and plan for this stuff!

*thumbs up*

As a south Australian, i feel even tho our population is much less, the risk is the same, except less in volume... we should really be learning from our interstate counterparts.

I think the decision to approve this DPA in mt barker ALONE shows how out of sync the government is ...  It does not add up to build on prime produce land.

Somebody mentioned Dawesley/petwood...that makes more sense, its only good for sheep/cows which can be dealt with elsewhere.

without sounding like i'm anti CFS- wouldn't/or shouldn't the needs of the community come first?

If the CFS heirachy aren't interested in helping the local brigade by equipping them appropriately (or at least advocating/pushing the gov't for the funding) - then why wouldn't the MFS, who equip their crew with the appropriate gear not be put into that community??

Obviously the C in CFS stands for COUNTRY......so I can understand why they are 'having trouble' getting their head around the concept of a decent pumper or an aerial!

Bill's thoughts on an integrated service sound fantastic.

This round of flooding, could have easily been handled as good as a bush fire.

oh dear God no...please don't let us accept that level of management....

HA i know what your suggesting....Yes Bushfires too have failed management :P

SASES / Re: When to push the button?

Better yet, join forces, merge the two services, have special division setup of paid staff who manage the Flood/Search/Rescue side of things..etc, etc, etc.

Looking at the collective pool of volunteers, it'd be far easier if every volunteer from both services can assist, promptly.

Job stacking can happen much less than it happens now, when an effective IMT is in place, Sectorising whole sections of area to be under divisional commanders...again etc etc etc.

This round of flooding, could have easily been handled as good as a bush fire.

« on: December 10, 2010, 08:10:08 AM »
our crew from my brigade, a crew of 4, managed to render the brigade pretty much offline, and this was a for a 11am flooding call.

Looking at how many people probably took a day off at work to assist at two wells alone, asking for that many people from a small selection of brigades is a big ask indeed.

Some groups in Region 1 got completely missed, where you could just take a command car full of volunteers to man appliances from closer by...meanwhile, i spotted coomandook 34 at two wells...

It would help avoid having callouts at a later time tho....  driver training as well....   It may look sus, but i think it helps manage the workload.
