We find it the other way around.

The young ones want to socialise and the old ones dont hang around....if they even show up!

As someone who is on the other end , comms, Alerts can be VERY handy, or a total embarrassment to the fire service. Most of the time its the latter. It ranges from very competant call takers to dead silence, so we make a response based on maps.

The current arrangement of ringing those who don't have data in the system came about due to pressure from various groups who didn't want us direct paging, fair enough, but if you want this done, train your Alerts calltakers, for goodness sake, listen before starting to talk, don't answer in noisy areas, so many times I have had the member of the public question what on earth is going on.... and don't be a smart filtered, its doesn't help us, we try, so don't give us a hard time, you are looking after a tiny little patch, we have the whole state. I know we aren't all perfect, and we are using the system to its ability.

Just out of interest, we have had the reps from Intergraph sitting in with us on calls, so things are moving forward. The system they are telling us sounds fantastic, so as long as your data input is correct it should work well,
BRING IT ON !

PS: this is my own opinion, not the opinion of the people I work for.

Bahahaha....This is so much funnier if you can relate to it at your own group level!

So how long has this been bandied around TOO LONG!

To all you fat whinny people LOOSE WEIGHT,& GET FITTER.The BMI is set @  30 and will not be changed.

MOVE ON and LOOSE WEIGHT get fitter BECOME A BETTER FIRE-FIGHTER & try again. All this crap that we will run out of CABA operators is just Your excuse .

end of transmission.

 :-D

I mean realistically how many people are not getting through because they are over 35?  im sure maybe out of that there is maybe 1 out of 20 that have a genuine reason (body builder) for being over 35.  Everyone else need to lose weight..not just for the service but in general for your health!

I think some of those options will lead on to others themselves.  I'm sure if we had better equipment and appliances, volunteer retention would be higher.

I'm interested to know what kind of technologies you're thinking of though...  You mean ICT tech in our dispatch, or new technologies on the equipment we use?

Your spot on CFS Firey.  By technology i mean anything really....embracing any new technology that comes along or maybe even researching our own technology.

Not really anything specific, just thought i would throw it in.

Keep your appliance well stocked with glucose lollies....very good at keeping the energy level up at a long job.

Not to mention the benefits if you happen to come across a diabetic in need of some quick sugar.

Always remember to brush your teeth after the glucose lollies, tooth decay, can't be too careful.......though in saying that Cam most people down your way only have a few teeth in their head, anyway!  :-) :-D

Oi thats a bit rough.  I still got all mine....see  :-D

Id like to see the group level removed because each group have their own way of thinking whereas each regional officer SHOULD be running things as the book states.

Would fix alot of the banjo problems some groups have *cough* Gambier *cough cough*

Cam,If you guys want to do the full course you get the group to support your application, send it to the regional office and its up to them.....

filtered that!  Our brigade wants nothing to do with Hazmat except on a support level.
Their group wouldnt support them anyhow would they?

Probably not....although perhaps that would be seen as a backwards move so maybe they would?

Ok....lets try and get some decent discussion happening.

The CFS has a tight budget but there are things that need to be focussed upon now to make the service better for the future.  Ive added a few in the poll of what i believe should be considered.

Vote for your favourite idea or maybe write down your idea below.  Remember though....the budget is tight so realistically only 2 options can be selected.

Country Fire Service / Re: 52mm vs 38mm Hose
« on: October 22, 2008, 04:43:48 AM »
Guys

Not a 100% sure why we are actually discussing this, From what i have seen and used all the new 34s come with Stotz fittings plus adaptor to take the hose we already carry.

Now most carry 25mm for forestry, all carry 38mm and 64mm.
My thoughts 64mm for filling or suppling water to appliances. 38mm for structure fires or 25 high pressure if you have it.
25mm with waygax for forestry and deploy the NSW rural fire servie role, not these stupid forestry winders we have on our trucks.

I will teach you when i see Cam, filtered of a lot easier and it can be bowled.

The issue is 64mm hose comes as a storz coupling and 38mm comes as wajax.  Also this means that the branch is suited to a 38mm hose, therefore less flow.

So in a hurry where you want to connect a 64mm hose to a 38mm hose you will need an adaptor, not a problem really unless your several lengths from the truck and you forgot to take it with you.

Country Fire Service / 52mm vs 38mm Hose
« on: October 21, 2008, 06:04:27 PM »
So what do people think?

Not being able to freely connect 64mm to 38mm will cause issues i believe, so perhaps moving to a 52mm hose would be of benefit.  It would also standardise the hose between the MFS and CFS.

That then leaves only 25mm on wajax for rural applications and any 38mm canvas some brigades use for forestry applications.

Due to the nature of Fire stations - large and usually down town/on a main road - the land needs to be purchased well in advance in fast growing towns as to reserve these places for possible future development.

Although im probably just stating the obvious!

Thanks for the update rob.

Cos DEH self-respond along to CFS jobs, just by watching the paging feed......bit lame at this time of the year,  but alright in the height of summer i guess.   It would be nice if Adelaide fire had the ability to page the DEH Bases. also identifying themselves as "DEH Morialta 14" would help...

I didnt realise DEH actually operated through adelaide fire anyway

Im 6'5, weigh 95kg (Add 20kg of BA set and turnouts to that for a rescue) and have a BMI of 22.. Your going to seriously struggle to pull me out too unless you have a similar stature.. - But im fit and healthy..  -  Does that mean I can't be a firefighter incase my partner can't pull me out?

20kg? try 30kg but you make a good point also.....im gonna go sit back in the corner.

You make a good point.

Sure a body builder maybe a BMI of 37 but they are fit and healthy.  What happens when they go down?  Are you going to be able to pull them out?  Maybe the BMI isnt just about personal health, its about your partner breaking his back trying to pull you out!
