Here is a better way to save money.

disband the ses......give all rescue to the fire service.

all urgent tree jobs can be handled by the fire service everything else the councils and privates can look after it!

sell off all SES assets and the money can be injected back into the other emergency services.

All Equipment discussion / Re: Eflare Vs Powerflare
« on: September 27, 2008, 11:35:38 AM »
I work for the company that is selling the power flares here in SA and I have been able to get a few of these out to brigade's and groups to try and play with in the state. So far the feed back for those brigaes and SES units on main highways is that the powerflares are better as they are able to be seen from a longer distance, they can be run over by a car, truc, tractor and still work.

If your brigade or group is looking at buying these why not give me a call and I can send you one each of the power flare or eflare to play with.....

Send us a few....although dont expect me to pay for them or send them back!

SAMFS / Re: SAMFS Seaford

Just out of curiosity.

will seaford still have an area as such?  or will they only respond to upgraded jobs with mfs or large rural fires in the district?  or will they disband altogether?

what trucks will they have?

Alot of these brigades including yours robert struggle to crew a truck to a fire.  Are you really going to be able to get a crew enthused about being trained as first responders?

Someone has to draw a line in the sand though.  You cant fund trucks on the worst case scenario, their simply isnt enough money to go around.  Agreed perhaps Urban Interface brigades should have pumpers or perhaps some sort of Urban Interface appliance capable of urban work but that is where it should end, otherwise brigades could argue, if such and such, and such and such are committed we will need a pumper. blah blah blah!  :-D

It sounds like a system that would work but as you say "ownership" would get in the way.

Cant say i blame them either though.  For starters we dont have the capabilities of the MFS to be able to do that at a large structure fire.  Second, why would the MFS want to give a big job and return to their area and run alarm after alarm?  Its basically one of the reasons they joined, to see the big one!

and as it has already been said.......COQ was arranged with close consultation with Region 1 HQ.  Have a problem?  Speak to them.

Have a problem with a response for your own brigade?  Fill in the appropriate forms and it will be investigated.

Sorry i shouldnt answer these so early in the morning  :-o

Probably another good reason why the equipment and appliances should be looked at from a state point of veiw rather than a brigades specific area.... Eg Belair should probably have a pumper again due to their close proximity to the city and the easily stretched resources of the MFS.

Sweet ill put my order in for a pumper and jet right now.

nah seriously makes sense.  Bout time we started working together with the other services then against them but obviously within reason.

There are 2 people who have had a chance to drive this new truck (apart from the people who brought it down here) and that is Captain John (who couldn't wait to get it out the door) and Captain Camo (who stopped off in Penola during working hours to drool all over our nice new truck)

SHH it as a lunch break

Yeah youll notice theres a foam tank with its own inlet pump to fill it up, dont put foam straight in the Water tank any more :)

That is only on the Ps. The standard 34 has 2 drum spots on the crew deck with a probe thingamabob (cant think of the name) that goes where the lid is.

visit ozfire for my pics.

Was nice to drive even if it was only around the block.  After seeing the adaptor tray i really feel like killing the guy who chose to have wajax and stortz......why couldnt we just have one!
