Title: LEC vrs normal torch
Post by: bittenyakka on December 14, 2008, 02:35:41 PM
I have found that most led lights i have used tend to always have a more blue soft light than conventional torches. ie the light doesn't manage to penetrate through the darkness much. This has been mainly in a camping situations and mainly mid range to low range hed lamps.

Does anyone have any experience with some of the new LED equipment on the cheaper end of the market?

I have both the UA LED and Xenon helmet torches and the LED far outperforms the Xenon, it is far brighter and works probably 10m further as well.

You get what you pay for.
A mate uses a LED Lenser P7 for spot-lighting bunnies.

It is probably the equal of a 6-cell Maglight but a fraction of the size.
FARA had them on special for quite a bit less than RRP last week...

It's reasonable to expect similar performance for similar price from other manufacturers.
cheers

For work in smoke/steam/fog I have found the UK4AA and Wolflite Xenon/Halogen far better than any LED offering. The LED'd tend to have a very soft light that is easily dispersed and reflected off the smoke/steam/fog.
